Btw, naive me can't understand how Obsidian needed way more money for far less demanding goals, like 500k for both ship types and ship upgrades, which in the end were meh with barely any C&C. Things may be cheaper in mother Russia, but still...
Because stretch goals amount doesn't really reflect the actual cost of putting a feature in the game. It's more of "how far we can push people to pledge for this particular goal." Its more of a measure of "how exciting this goals be to potential backers." Which also really depends on the dev (Obsidian has/had more "street creed" back then, so they can ask more for less ambitious goals).
Writing and putting a companion in game will never costs 105k USD but companions are very critical (at least for normal masses) so they can put a big number for it. Mounted combat is probably more complex to implement (if they are really going to integrate it anyway, instead of just slap stick it on their current build) than the companion but it also costs 100k USD. This is the best example on this campaign alone.
Dismemberment is probably only visual stuffs so it costs lower because it might not be as "exciting."
2 More Mythic Paths, especially because Mythic Paths are supposed to significantly affect story are of course exciting. That's why they but 155k USD on it.
