I am playing again and got puzzled about those murals in Poko Kahara. Some Huana, Engwithians and a blue flame. What the hell was that?

Also, a doubt: what are the reactions if you play as a deathlike, priest of Berath. Anything special?

After I reached lvl 18, the Forgotten Scrotum face control - manifested in a couple of Vithrack encounters - finally admitted me to the lower parts of the dungeon. I really like it. It's tough, mysterious, and branches into multiple paths through which you can explore it. That's a great dungeon.

"Narrative designer":
"As you make your way along the road, you notice the light dimming, as if a shadow has fallen over you."
Funnym I always thought that the same light will actually look brighter as your surroundings get darker.

"Narrative designer":
"You glance around, unsure of where it's coming from. The air feels thick, pregnant with unseen energy."
The air does not get "pregnant", it may feel "charged with unseen eneregy", it may feel "galvanized by an invisible force", but not "preganant with unseen energy". You are thick.

Stop nitpicking such minute word choices.
At least someone has nitpicked them, even if it hasn't been whoever wrote this.

The sum of those minute choices is what ultimately gives the writing its style.
I completely agree. It's incredibly frustrating when legit writing criticism is hand-waved as 'nitpicking'.

There's plenty you can criticise about the game's writing, but saying a legitimate use of a word is not actually a legitimate use of the word strikes me as wasting time

Actually there is more to writing good than stringing together words which when checked in the thesaurus seem to have a fitting meaning for one's purposes.

obviously. But you did not say that the word choice was out of place or cliché or pretentious. You said "the air does not get pregnant."

That is a fair point I suppose, but the use of the word pregnant there does strike me as poor, even if I do agree that it's not technically incorrect despite what the OP asserts

I honestly can't say I've ever seen air described as pregnant, there's such a thing as a pregnant pause, that's quite a common one.

2.
full of meaning; significant or suggestive.
"a pregnant pause"
synonyms: filled, charged, heavy, fraught, replete, teeming

The synonym there 'charged' definitely implies it can be used in that way.

Anyway, the point I agreed on was that minute word choices do matter.

I only played the first hour or so of PoE2 (and I don't plan to continue until the TB mode comes out), but I agree with AwesomeButton. The pretentious, overwritten intro alone was enough to make me want to shut off the game. PoE1 was bad too, but never as bad as this.

Yeah, typical of most codexers, played it for an hour, called it shit...

Seriously dude, the intro is fine. If you nitpick at this intro this much, seriously, why are you playing video games to begin with? Just so you can complain on forums afterwards?

I'm sensing butthurt.

The intro does suck. And I'm assuming the writing in the rest of the game sucks too since that's what everybody in this thread is saying.

Time to find a new trend!

There's also the Codex tradition of playing something for 1000 hours and then calling it shit. Just ask Sarissofoi about Battle Brothers, or whoever it was that had that bug up his ass about Darkest Dungeon.

I was calling battle Brothers disappointing which was when it was abandoned by devs at that time with plenty placeholder stuff still in place.
To be honest its still kind of is.
Never I was calling it shit or even bad. Quite opposite I was calling it good or decent but lacking especially in longer time frame. I can write long list with the weak - personal bias - game points with reasons why its bad and how to improve it - starting fro m UI to other stuff. Even with recent DLC many things remain the same and core design problems remain unresolved. Still its not bad game and I never claimed otherwise.
Sure I shit on devs but to be honest its rather ironic krautposting at this point and its more a easily recognizable gig than anything else.
Well I never could get angry at Psen for his great art - maybe littler for changing simple yet nice banners into that over designed mess that we have right now.

So keep your facts straight.
Even if I agree with based rat at most points of his review currently I find BB rather pleasant thanks to recent balancing and new Nimble. Still it could be much much better and its lack modding but it is not bad by any means.
I would even call it best western tactical semi RPG even if only to mention that this genre is in very bad shape.

So fuck off.

What exactly have you written, AwesomeButton?

I'd like to know that too.

A lot of these are extremely minor nitpicks, would be nice to know if they're correct, and with what authority AB is pushing them.
1. There is not really such a thing as "correct" when discussing literary qualities. This isn't a maths equation or debugging of code.

2. The only "authority" in writing comes from recognition. Any work of writing acclaimed as "classic", "good", or "canon" has no "evidence" to back its status except the fact that "lots of people like it over a long period of time". Those are the most easily measurable traits that can point to what is good, and even they are not static, they ultimately depend on the cultural context. We may come to an age where Shakespeare is completely illegible and we can't get any meaning or "literary value" out of his works. What is considered "good" changes over time, and even the "canon" is not static.

3. Looking for "what's this guy's authority to say this writing is bad" is also futile for another reason. The moment someone starts looking for another's "authority" to assign literary value (or lack of it), then this person automatically assumes that he has the authority to judge the other's authority, and this cycle can continue indefinetly.

So, tldr for prestigious readers: with writing, if lots of people say you suck, you most probably suck. If lots of people over a long period of time say you are good, you must have been doing something right. But there is no ultimate authority. Except of course in societies which use coercion to dictate artistic taste to the audience - like dictatorships of the past and present.

Staying relevant or being consumed over multiple generations is only one sign of actually being good when it comes to art. There are other criteria that isn't arbitrary, there is no "liking" going on in serious discussions about the merits of art.

Yeah.

I was looking for mostly white looking dwarf male portraits but I am not opposed to other colours at all, if it looks good/non-lore breaking. I wanted to roll a mountain dwarf from Old Vailia this time around.

BTW: I thought there were some white Vailians in the series too? Like that white female dwarf at the VTC HQ?
Have you decided on a class? I assume you don't want frosty beard and armor with fur for Deadfire, but do you want it to be particularly pirate-y looking?

Honestly, doesn't need to have any strong pirate themes. Just some armor (gambeson, brigandine, plate etc.) and maybe a cloak would do. :)

EDIT: Just noticed your tag in the portrait thread, thanks!

Started playing it with all new dlcs. Oh, boi. I totally forgot how retarded prologue is...

Also loading times are much worse than in Kangmeyka even at the beginning.
