Rebalancing abilities and items around the TB combat is possible through modding, but fixing various UI annoyances is not.

Not so much discussion here... I guess TB does not make a mediocre game good.
As should be obvious and is proven by all the crappy turn-based games companies like Firaxis keep shitting out, being turn-based doesn't automatically make a game good.

Just like with everything, most turn-based combat is ass. Especially these days with basically everyone copying the 2 "AP" crap from Firaxis.

spell casting should have targeting at the end of cast as very rarely do enemies stay in place (unless you are bombing choke points).
does engagement work beyond 1 person? doesnt seem to be for me.
Also anyone saw/tried what happens when target moves out of range during cast?
best part is, ship combat starts immediately. no longer a wizard with melee weapon rushes to enemy ship to get his face punched in

Before I just ignore the animal companion because I don't want to micro manage another character, but TB made me realize how shitty they are in this game.

Their damage output is barely worth mentioning, they miss half the time, and they are very easy to die because they are all melee and when they die they make your ranger worse.

On the other hand, I like the TB way better than the RTwP.

Ranger pets are good if you treat them as an extension of your character and not an extra party member. I generally use them as bodyguards and for flanking manouevers.

Pets become more effective late game due to scaling. By level 20, their attacks and DR will be equivalent of legendary weapons/armor, so they are more capable of fending for themselves.

I've tried playing around a bit more, but lack of keyboard hotkey to end turn is literally Hitler.

People saying this is a turn based system forced into rtwp were right.

So was Baldurs Gate.
Yeah, and Baldur's Gate was impementing an existing combat system, whereas PoE's was custom build for a RtwP game.

And Baldur's Gate still ends up being the one with the better RtwP combat.

If you want a good low level pet, take a bear with the resilient companion passive. They will make better tanks than a custom party member early on.

I'm doing this with an Arcane Archer/Wizard. The bear misses most of its hits, but it soaks attacks and the geomancer still does a ton of damage.

Arcane Archer is fun as hell. Frostseeker with driving flight and imbue fireballs is one of the most OP combinations in the game.

Another piece of genius UI design - almost no relevant info on the "quick hover" ability descriptions. Where's the duration? Why's so much important information not quickly displayed to the player in this game, and requires in-game wikipedia browsing instead?

In other news - higher DEX increases initiative penalty. Makes sense to me.
Perfect choice to illustrate your point.
Bizarre and perplexing indeed.

He meant that the priority to fluff over crucial crunch in the tooltip is dumb, which is true.

Nope. The best tanking pet is boar and the rest are not even close. Boars have highest base HP, highest HP growth per level, 2nd highest deflection, fortitude and will and they heal themselves in combat. Other pets are not even worth bothering with, all they do is die and debuff your ranger.

Make a Ghost Heart ranger and you won't suffer from Bonded Grief.

I'd say that by itself ranger is sort of lackluster but Ranger/Rogue can spam Wounding Shot and Crippling Strike. Both are excellent full attack abilities that cost 1 resource point to use.

it's random. Meant to be random whether or not they're hostile as well, but in my experience they're always hostile. Best to upgrade to soul dippomacy asap

After playing like 15 minutes I've accidentally found an option to end turn automatically

I think the toggle "end turn after action" should maybe be "end turn when action and movement meters are both empty". There are plenty of times so far when I want to hit an enemy and run away, but I like auto-ending turns. It makes more sense to me to automatically end your turn when there's nothing else you can do

Except nobody has switched to defending the worldbuilding and dialogue. What kind of crack are you smoking?

Ok, so a few days ago I asked about the DLCs and pretty much all of you said they're good. I think I'll buy them in the next Steam sale, then.
Should I play them with my old save (with a max level PC) or start a new game? If it's the latter, at which level should they be approached?

Strap Yourselves In Pathfinder: Wrath
You may want to check out the new subclasses first. Some of them are pretty strong and/or flavorful, such as Blood Mage, Tactician, Priest of Woedica, etc.

The DLCs are balanced with the expectation you'll begin them around the following levels:

Beast Of Winter: level 14
Seeker Slayer Survivor: level 16
Forgotten Sanctum: level 18

They don't increase the level cap, so if you do them on your current character you'll be level 20 the whole time. Whether you should do them now or start a new game depends mainly on whether you're OK with the xp meter not going up. The second two DLCs have enough challenging content to still be worth doing at max level, and the first has some of the best story content in the game(for what that's worth)

I'll tell you this much already. The combat system is better than DOS:2.

No round robin initiative system
No retarded magical/physical armor
No randomized loot bullshit
so on and so forth...

Aside from a few minor issues that can be easily tweaked, it's pretty solid.

I haven't looked much but the turn-based mechanics seem to be all "behind the scenes" ie the numbers aren't exposed in text files, so I don't know that any of it can be modded. I've just looked in laxh though, not the global.gamedatabundle
