True. What I heard from the temp files was not very good. There were only a couple of tracks I liked (including the main theme, luckily). That said, I'm willing to wait until I've heard the recorded versions before making a final judgement.

I think he(she) is blaming everyone else at Obsidian (Absurdian -roguey dixit-) but Sawyer acually.

How can the combat being shitty be the fault of someone else than Sawyer?

Not that I personally think the combat is shitty, mind.

He doesn't, but it was sort of inferred from the lack of disagreement with Sensuki's statement.

Heh.

It must have some Tim Cain's molecules over it, so when the technology comes I'll clone him and make him do actual Fallout 3.

The programmers and animators can mess up a good system.

See NWN2 compared to IWD2. Even if you don't like 3E, one has clearly superior gameplay.

Edit: Damn that flask looks rad as hell. Totally want one.

The way NWN2 was programmed eas influenced by the lead designer. Choices like the way AoOs were implemented weren't just coding mistakes.

If the combat is fundamentally flawed, there's no way the lead designer can just shrug it off. It's his responsibility that all links in the chain do their job properly.

Also Sawyer hasn't expressed anything that would make us believe that the combat isn't a complete function of his vision.

It's a shame that the combat will be the shittest part of the game though. Even if you like it, it will still be the worst part about the game. I like what I see regarding dialogue/writing/companions so far though.

That would have always happened though. Obsidians standards on every other aspect of design (quests and so on) are really high comparativly after all.

Ranged rogues can be very effective. BTW most of the Affliction VFX are being turned into hits instead of persistent effects. I didn't want to make that shift until we got support to display status effects in enemy tooltips, but that's happening now.

perhaps it will be transformed into a semi-official modding tool later. or they got some ideas from studying it.

Interesting, I guess they didn't improve or share their improved tool with him.
We are completely slammed with work right now, but we will look into integrating some of Bester's work in patches or the expansion. We just thought it was really cool of him for sharing.

From something awful, with regards to achievements:

Q: Inspector Gesicht posted:
There'll probably be achievements for finishing the game in Expert Mode, Trial by Iron, and Path of the Damned, but I wonder if there's a sadistic achievement for finishing the game in all three modes at once.

A: Rope Kid

There's one for "Triple Crown" (Expert, Trial of Iron, PotD), and one for "Triple Crown Solo" (all of that without recruiting any companions or creating any adventurers after the intro).

So any one feel like trying for the Triple Crown Solo?

naith1 asked: [PoE] Hi Josh! Thank you for awesome job. This may not be a question but rather a suggestion. After your stream, there was a lot of voices that Def. Bay was a bit empty. I am sure you know about it. To keep the IE feel this (and perhaps this 2nd big city) need to be much more populated. Another important issue would be more ambient sounds like: children shouting, the buzz of the crowd etc. What is your approach on that?

I think those are valid concerns. One of the biggest issues with the stream was audio. Unfortunately we were on a build where the audio levels were particularly off and a lot of sounds weren’t playing properly (sometimes at all). Ambient sounds add a lot to the plausibility of a bustling environment, and that’s something Justin Bell (our audio director) is looking at.

We are looking at overall population density as well, but we are trying to be careful about how many creatures we put on a map since that can adversely affect performance (both memory and CPU load).

As said by others in other posts, they could just add some some people that you can't interact with. They'd be part of the background just to liven up the place.

It's a nice idea, but it does come with its own set of issues. (Can those people be killed if you throw an area effect spell? How do they react to violence near them? Etc)
