I just purchased an i7 4790k

fuck it I guess

Gotta find a low DPC latency motherboard now lol
That costs 400 euros here, I'm jelly.

I didn't think this would be the game that would make me upgrade my pc.

$430 AUD shipped from Korea (it's ~ $470 aud here) - dodge that local tax

Picking a motherboard is FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU - I *need* a low DPC latency one, but the good ones don't have PCI slots anymore ;_;

How about the pre-order numbers too? Is it too early? I assume no one knows anything about that.
It's on 2nd page now and it should be on first when the 2k sale is over. I wouldn't expect an obsidian crpg to have those many pre orders, what with their history of buggy launches. btw how buggy is it ppl from the beta?

Roby on FPS between this build and their current one

Roby Atadero said:
I'm getting about 15 more FPS in the Temple unpaused between 480 and 500. About 10 more FPS paused between 480 and 500.

That being said, it'll probably be more significant on a slower machine as opposed to mine.

Who knows? How much ram do you have? What is your cpu? Are you running 32bit or 64bit windows?
3,15 GB of ram, Intel I3 2.30 GHz, 32 bit, Geforce 610M 2 GB. Kinda sucks, I know. I play mostly oldies, so I haven't got many reasons to complain until now.
Performance will likely chug, game will load slowly, and you might get CTDs when loading maps.

There's no such thing as a 32-bit i3. Probably just got a 32-bit OS installed.

That's a solvable problem, but requires an OS reinstall and some $$$.

They do have a Linux version... You don't need to buy a 64 bit Windows for a game, though there really isn't any reason to stay with 32 bit in any case.

Oh hey, release is six days away. Neat. My strategy of ignoring upcoming releases for months, if not years at a stretch really saves time and energy that might otherwise be wasted on anticipation.

Yeah, I'm sure that will get here right on time for release.

Anyone know how the DRM-free digital copy will be made available? Will a code appear in my account info screens on the 26th?

Or he can put Steam OS on that machine and get a Steam version of PoE.

Seems so. They'll first ask to confirm which medium (Steam/GoG) you want to redeem your digital code for sometime before release, according to assorted information from BAdler on the Obs boards.

Or he can put Steam OS on that machine and get a Steam version of PoE.

Eh yeah, SteamOS is still Linux. Buying Windows is a bad idea in any case.

I say this as someone who manages Linux servers for a living... I would never tell someone to switch to desktop Linux just to save $100. Certainly not without asking what software they need to run.

Buy Windows for a gaming machine is not a bad idea.

If the guy has a more limited hardware, Steam OS is supposed to help with that compared to Win 7 or 8.1

If it is Windows 7 32bit, you should be able to get a 64 bit image from microsoft (software recovery) and just do a reinstall with that. Keys work for both versions afaik.

Each part will (or should) come with its own warranty. If you don't want to assemble it yourself, bring the parts to a local computer repair shop and pay them a small fee to have them do it for you.

Don't forget to factor Blu-Ray/DVD/CD reader/burner drive(s) (if desired), multimedia and card readers, wireless card (if desired), and the cost of the OS license (if applicable) into the cost.

NEVER use SLi or Crossfire. They're shit for a lot of reasons that may not be immediately obvious. Watch out for AMD GPUs that are essentially two GPUs soldered into a single card. They still use Crossfire. That's my one beef with the Logical Increments guide. Get a single very good GPU, and then upgrade in a year or three.

Ignore people going on about Linux. For computer games, it's shit, even after fiddling with it for dozens of hours.

I'm waiting for the Titan X to release in April because, again, SLi is shit. Once it's out, I'll be building a new PC for the first time since mid-2011.

The Titan X has already released at least in the US.

The original post was about a 3 GB RAM i3 machine with a 32 bit Windows OS primarily used for playing "oldies", and the first suggestion was to buy a 64 bit version of Windows. That's not a gaming machine, and buying 64 bit Windows isn't going to turn it into one. Switching to Linux is a better option for that machine than buying a new Windows OS just for Pillars of Eternity.

Sure, buying better hardware is better, and Windows is still much better for a gaming machine than Linux, but that isn't what my suggestion was about.

I can't believe you're still seriously discussing it. The only viable option here is to download win7 x64 from torrents, install it and get over yourself / forget all this nonsense about linux.

God, what wouldn't poor people come up with just to stay poor.
