Fuck, waiting would be a hell of a lot easier had they released the backer rewards. I could be reading the guidebook right now :negative:

Interesting. Does anyone know how quickly Divinity:OS got to #1, and how that turned out sales wise?
I know that it was in the top 10 for months. Larian went from dirt poor to filthy rich in that time. They even opened a new studio in Canada (in Montreal I think).

So glad to see Obsidians hard work finally pay off. I have no idea what #1 on Steam actually means in sales numbers, but it has to be huge right?

IIRC those spots are determined by revenue, not numbers sold. Hopefully it stays near the top for a good while.

Nothing can replace the Infinity Engine games

Sez you. I'm ready to throw them all in the trash.

and for the novella, that it is done at the highest quality for Backers.

I think it'd be super keen if, like the Wasteland 2 novella, they just stop bringing it up and hope everyone forgets. I never will, but I don't care, and I enjoy people getting trolled over the bait and switch.

Speaking of which, I'm predicting solid reviews for a crpg. Especially since mainstream youtubers such as Angry Joe will reach an audience that doesn't pay attention to this genre.
It's obvious they've been giving gamejournos some dick based on the Polygunk and Shitaku praise. They don't praise games unless you've given them money or dick.

So, yeah, it'll have good reviews.

From under the update:

Are you saying you're not giving me the key I paid for if I don't create an account at your web site? I am 100% certain that term of purchase was never stated when I made my Kickstarter pledge. Credit card chargeback incoming, a'holes!

:nocountryforshitposters:

Somehow this dipshit managed to miss the bunch of updates telling him to register and redeem his pledge. How...

Your mom is huge. 300.000 is meh. Decent for an indie game, but meh for a company that made F:NV (sales wise).
they didn't get royalties for F:NV
And you didn't get my point. Obsidian used to rub shoulders with AAA devs. If they can't outdo Larian, they fucking declined as a company, and they won't return to their "former glory".

:nocountryforshitposters:

What is this, a dick measurement cost? Get your priorities straight, the only thing that matters is whether they can make more oldschool RPGs, and when you don't have a publisher breathing down your neck, a few hundred thousand copies sold achieves that just fine.

They broke even in 1 month: Eeeeeerrrr actually I skimmed it quickly.. they were in #1 for a month.
http://www.lar.net/2014/09/12/thoughts-after-releasing-divinityoriginal-sin-and-what-comes-next/

There weren't any big releases during that month though so there wasn't a lot of competition. Not that I expect PoE to do as well as D:OS anyway since it doesn't look like a LOL clone in trailers, but at least the impressions seem to be good. Seems like most major sites at least put the game in the hands of that one nerd in the office who played the IE games rather than the resident Skyrim fanboy.

Bitch, they used to fucking hire 100 employess or something. Yeah, it's a be or not to be kind of point for them. I'm not going to fund their games forever, so it's in their best interest to get their shit up again. They're already working on Russian tank MMOs for fuck's sake.

They currently have more employees than they have ever had, far more than a 100. Apparently, Russian tank MMO's are quite lucrative.

Afaik there are time limits on how far back you can get chargebacks on credit- and debit cards, I think Visa at least used to have three or four months so good luck getting getting one as it's been 2,5 years since the Kickstarter.

Being self sustaining through moderate sales on smalll-medium budget games is much more desirable than operating contract-to-contract and being forced to lay off half your staff after each AAA project completes. Am I right in remembering that Zeits has been laid off by Obsidian twice? Fucking Zeits, this isn't like they're laying off useless employees.

I have no issue with them using KS to launch each new franchise and funding sequels on the profits from sales. Also to stop making Tank MMOs, sorry Anthony Davis

For the record, I think Pillars actually does have a decent chance of having sales on par with Divinity.

PoE advantages: RTwP, company name recognition, publisher marketing (all them Paradox fanboys), Infinity Engine nostalgia (FWIW)
D:OS advantages: Multiplayer, graphics style, sandbox features (that sort of thing is very popular on Steam), relatively few Kickstarter backers leaving more people to buy the game after its release

Right now it's difficult to make comparisons since D:OS didn't really have this kind of pre-order hype period due to being on Early Access for such a long time.

The most important advantage PoE has on D;OS is the writing, for me D:OS was hilariously bad in that department. The only saving grace for D;OS was the combat and well ,that's all sadly.

The Infinity Engine nostalgia will be driving the sales on this. I expect it to do very very well.
