Are there really no weapon skills? Anyone can use a dagger or a pole arm?

There are Weapon Focus: Something that increases your proficiency with a group of weapons. There are about 6 types of weapon focus, grouped more or less by background/profession/social class.
Thanks. But what are those "Foci"? I didn't have any chance to choose them during character creation. Do you choose them later on?

Yes, you pick them as offensive talents while leveling up.

Also: I'm playing a chanter but I seemingly never had the chance to use an invocation yet despite chanting my 2 phrases many times. Is there a symbol somewhere which would tell me when I can attempt an invocation?

There is a number in the bottom right corner of the chanter character portrait that counts the number of phrases he has chanted already. When the number reaches the pre-requisite of the incantation (usually 3), you can cast them.

It seemed to me that, in the 90s it was accepted in some countries and not others, but these last few years, it became common to forbid it everywhere...
It never had. Bethesda just doesn't want to make multiple versions of their games (and neither does any AAA). So they make it to be accepted by the German board and everyone else gets it.

They actually have different version for Japan & other countries, with no blood no dismember, etc...

There are many things that are puzzling. For example, what to infer from something like this:
Ooze hits Calisca for 5 Corrode damage
[GAME PAUSED: weapon ineffective]
? Now, obviously, the ooze has corroded Calisca's weapon, in the noble tradition of Rust Monsters and various Oozes from the 80s, right? Wrong. There's nothing wrong with Calisca's weapon. I guess, maybe, that slashing weapons are completely ineffective against Oozes or something. Makes sense (in the Fantasy Pickwickian sense of making sense, of course).

It seems like the game autopauses when a weapon is ineffective against a character regardless of who's doing the attack. So Calisca's good corrode DR is making the ooze's corrode attack ineffective.

Ideally this will be fixed this week or soon.

Whoa. Thanks. This seems exactly what's happening!

Some areas are excellent, but the designers added a lot of unnecessary hand-holding...

That Skaen Temple is a good example. It has two entry points, and to avoid having players miss the backstory there's not one, not two, but THREE copies of the "Final Journal of Jonas" scattered around the place. Quite silly. Also, there's a chasm that you need a hook & grappling rope to cross. It's an optional path, that in theory should be a reward players that are well-prepared, but there are three sets of rope & grappling hook spread through the level as well.

It cheapens the game, makes being prepared pointless and feels like something made for people like the Polygon guy that got "stuck" in Fallout.
The Final Journal of Jonas is a book, there are lots of them throughout the world including in the library at Defiance Bay. It's like a Skaen manifesto.

Yeah, I found that journal before hitting Defiance Bay and have kept it around since.

I did think it was far too easy to sneak in Raedric's Hold. But maybe my 18 INT character was getting the right dialogue options?

Not yet.

Personally I say just play on, you might be missing a couple of PC buffs but they're trying to make a fix retroactive.

How did you find the ending? Satisfying?
Will the game become more 'philosophical' in the second half? :)
The ending is more than satisfying in my opinon. Yes there are some great philosophical dilemmas, plot twists and dialogues at the end. It would be a crime to spoil it for you. But one of the best thing about the last third of the game is that unlike 99% of RPGs it DOES NOT turn into Diablo. I mean that there are not going to be dozens rooms full of monsters to be killed!!!

Done that yesterday, another very well done location.

Love how no xp for killing works altogether and it was used to great effect in the Raedric Hold.
I went for disguise sneak in from the roof, and was skill checked for Resolve by several Priests on that floor, each check higher then the one before.
I couldnt pass the last one, but more exploration provided a sort of solution for that. Nice thing is that you cna make a deal with the priest and the "witch" in the basement, but its not nice that i have to kill someone to choose between those two options.

I wanted to leave Raedric alive and see where those animancy Frankenstein experiments will go, but decided to off him after all. (on next playthrough ill take a harsh approach to everything)
A nice fight on hard, reasonably challenging for my crew. Had to use everything i got to win it without cheesing it and starting the fight myself from afar.

Still, i left the priest and the animancer "witch" alive to see what consequences such a setup will bring.
Or is it just a simple binary choice between nice and not nice options.

Can anyone tell me what kind of fighters and forces are in the keep in normal difficulty?

On Hard its all full of Paladins, high level fighters, high priests and arch mages around.

meh, bleh.

I dont mind there being more enemies here and there but one would expect different classes too, where it would be fitting.

Stronghold seems ok, i upgraded the main keep yesterday, went adventuring only to notice i suddenly have the option to build the main keep again after a few days.
Fucking bandits!
and i already missed a few visitors.

Brofisted normally, but this deserves a special :bro: for good measure.

So many posts on Obsidian forums complaining they can't rest anywhere they want, that wizards suck because they have to memorise spells at rest, and that the game 'incentivises' you to run all the way back to your stronghold from the middle of a dungeon because resting is free. I guess these people also put their pants on and walk to the nearest McDonald's every time they need to use a tissue, saving valuable money.

Does anyone know what kind of changes POTD makes, exactly? Do you get enemies with just higher DR and HP? Do they ever get new abilities, or use their abilities with greater frequency?

Maybe I am playing this wrong, but I didn't encountered any bugs so far (currently in Defiance Bay). The game is very stable.

Game is very stable, there are just two significant bugs currently - crashes in Raedric's Hold and the double-click equipment bug. Both have workarounds, but only imperfectly so.

There seem to be no truly gamebreaking bugs at the moment, which is remarkable (though in some bad cases one may get stuck in the Hold, I think).

Well it has to be deep-rooted issue if they haven't released a hotfix yet. On top of that websites like kotaku are already writing about this bug, which definitely is gonna light the fire under their bug-hunting asses.

I find I often have to remind Kotaku of this comment from a well known Codex reviewer:

if the game runs fine for one person, then it is complete and functional. Everything else is down to getting your configuration straight.

:troll:

Zero bugs here too, so far. Raedrick hold didnt present any difficulties in that area and the rest seems fine too.

Dont know whats the double clicking bug. I only get the weird effect when im trying to move stuff between companions inventories, the item i click on gets stuck in "the air" and when i move it, the character inventories bellow it move too. But a few more clicks around solves that.

The inventory is probably the only part of the Ui i dislike a lot.
Its too small, constrained in space each character has for no reason at all and all the items are greyed out. Makes it very hard to tell what is what at a glance and without hovering the mouse over every item.

You can make specific item groups pop up, or light up - but why the fuck is that necessary at all?
Why each item space and item icon isnt BIGGER?

Why?
