I tried the demo and didn't like the combat at all, I spent most of the time running away from enemies.

Also the demo requires an Ubisoft account to be played lol. I just put my console in offline mode and played it. Why should I create an account to play a singleplayer game?
skill issue or what was unengaing about the combat?

I'm sold now that I've learned this is a metroidvania from the rayman team

Some enemies take too much hits to be killed, but maybe because it's early game and the character is underleveled.

In early January, Ubisoft released one of its highest-rated Metacritic games in the past decade, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The game hit a height of 88 (Nintendo Switch) with its critic score and a 9.1 user score, leading many to believe that the game could already be in the running for several Game of the Year awards. Despite the impressive scores though, the game has around 300,000 players at the time of writing (estimated $15m in revenue).

It launched at the wrong price point. This was a major unforced error. Ubi thought they were Nintendo and could pull another Metroid Dread out of thin air.
Wrong price point, pretty much a dead IP, 'new' genre for the IP*, poor timing, no Steam release and a terrible first impression from the trailers. Plus, of course, a negro protagonist.

Yeah, a real slamdunk. What a shame! :smug:

Zero-challenge retard mode will now get labeled as "great strides on accessibility front" and will be rewarded statues by Geoff Dew by the end of the year

Does someone pay/threaten game developers now to use the purple? There's no way they are all doing that out of choice.

Rumor the team behind the Lost Crown got disbanded.
https://insider-gaming.com/prince-of-persia-the-lost-crown-team-disbanded-at-ubisoft-its-claimed/

There won’t be a sequel to The Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and the team that built the game no longer exists at Ubisoft. According to a new rumor from French journalist Gautoz, Ubisoft has disbanded the team behind the game after it failed to reach internal expectations.

A sequel for the game was also pitched, but the company rejected it.

I didn't know what the gameplay for this was like. Didn't wanna find out, because couldn't get past the character design. So don't care that they've been closed.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Playing this now and it's one of the best metroidvanias out there. Looks great (the schlocky UI art is bad but the actual environments, mobs and bosses look nice), combat is very enjoyable and oftentimes hard as nails (on the highest setting it's one of the hardest MV combat I've ever played) and some of the platforming sections gonna give you aneurysm (even White Palace from HK has nothing on the Lost Crown "Challenges", that shit is pure autism).

Game isn't doing something radically new or innovative but overall it's a clever, tight and challenging package with fantastic level design jam packed with well designed platforming and mob encounters. Only bosses so far haven't been too crazy, I'm about half way through and I've only moderately struggled once or twice (with six or seven runs at a boss) but otherwise it's a blast.

It's probably the best game Ubisoft has made in like ten years so of course they fucked it up by slapping it with a 50 dorra price tag on release (a galactically retarded price for a metroidvania) and then disbanded the studio when nobody bought it. This fucking company can't die soon enough. I hope someone gives the devs new jobs because they clearly know what they're doing.

PS: Oh and if you're concerned about the dindu protag in a Persia game, there are skins. I've immediately switched to this and never looked back:
