Wait, so it's a half-baked product if it has 5 companions, without knowing anything about it? How is it anyone else's fault but your own if you looked at 1.1m, the pitch video and thought "OMG THIS WILL BE JUST AS BIG AS BG2"? It sounds like you trolled yourself more than anything.

Ironically, BG2 is the only IE game with more than 5 properly fleshed out companions; in fact, Arcanum and FO1/2 wouldn't qualify either. Without more detail about the system as a whole '5 companions' means very little, except that it won't be a BG2. Duh.

Who cares about this "properly fleshed out" crap? We want maximum party customizability. Something completely missing in point and click adventures like Planescape "ZOMG, a sixth companion 10 minutes away from the endgame, do I take him along or stick with the original crew? CHOISEZ!" Torment. Something completely irrelevant in the "you can take 1.5 characters with you on the mission, the planet surface can't bear the load of anything more than that" Knights of the Dragon Nights.

5 companions = either no party customizability or an abortion of a party = shit storyfag point and click adventure. That's very simple and has zero relation to the original BG2 budget.

Fuck you.

Abandon your pledge right fucking now.

Demand accountability before you enable a fully loaded BMW for 10 execs.

Fuck you.

You mean the same execs that took no pay for several months and are hiring more people?

I think Obsidian's position is commonly misunderstood. They're an independent studio with ~100 employees, and they don't get a cut of game sales - on top of that there was the metacritic crap earlier this year. Personally I seem to be the only one who's encountered more game-breaking bugs in Bioware titles (KOTOR1, Mass Effect 1/2) than Obsidian ones (KOTOR2, Fallout New Vegas, Dungeon Siege 3). In fact, I haven't encountered anything other than cosmetic bugs in the latter (one broken animation and some model clipping).

For the record I haven't pledged anything yet, I'm waiting for more concrete information.

Cassidy and Stabwound I'm not going to call you dumbfucks because you haven't thread the whole thread, I'll just call you dumbfucks because you haven't even bothered reading the last 5 pages.
mmm... maybe it was on this thread instead.

You mad that it's going to be a storyfag game? :smug:

Anyway, we still don't know if you're able to create your own party or not, if so, you can customize all you want.
I sent Sawyer's a question about party composition to his formspring but he hasn't replied yet. It seems he will be posting a detailed blog entry about the game.

"originally dragon age was supposed to have completely original races. Later they changed that to "traditional races with a twist"."

Proof, please.

uhhh the emails they sent out to registered fans about the new IP circa 2005?

Right, that is were i saw it. Thanks for the reminder, I just couldn't remember were, just that I had seen it.

No problem bro. I still remember the first email announcement of Dragon Age I got, when it looked like a slightly less blocky Neverwinter Nights, but was propped as a totally original fantasy setting which would be a spiritual successor to BG in terms of themes, quality, etc.

It goes to show really that targeting the hardcore rpg market is an exercise in self-flagellation.

Only on the Codex. We are, thankfully, not the only members of that market.

However, the response to most of the attempts to roll back the decline has mostly been positive here, save for a few angry bitches. I guess those angry bitches are just more vocal here, 'cause it's Obsidian. Don't get why you must either love or hate them, I personally don't really have strong feelings towards them one way or another...

Wasn't Dragon Age originally suppose to be much more like Conan (low-magic, darker etc) than what it become (Standard grimdark fantasy).

MCA and Sawyer double-timed their girlfriends.

Gaider many times talked about "A song of fire and ice" as his primary inspiration. I don't remember any Conan reference and with the early things said I also don't remember something alluding to low-magic.

Tonight I literally dreamt of Dragon age. So, I woke up with a smile and had a good laugh until I went to KS page and looked at the stretch goals. How did an interesting world with plane travel that was promised by MCA turned into this?

3 Races is OK with me as long they are not elves and dwarfs, though chillaxing sounds pretty awesome. PST also had few races, but they were thiefling and githzerai. I don't care for size as the long as the content is there, but now I am even afraid to ask what it is.

Would I have donated if I knew what they are making? Yes, but I would not have been so butthurt. It's like they tried to please everyone and ended pleasing no one, because crowd funded projects don't really need input from supporters...
Why do you assume there won't be any planes? Just because it's fantasy?

Sawyer already said that this is concept art for the project, so it'll include guns: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/59974-project-eternity-known-information/

So it will be plane travel with Guns?

- Ladies, please move away from the portal! We need to teleport a tank!:hero:

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
It is still possible to detect traces of Song of Ice and Fire influence in Dragon Age, in those parts of the game where you deal with human nobles (Human Noble origin, the entire Landsmeet section, the noble conspiracy against you in Awakening)

Too bad those parts gets drowned in the rest of the game.

Except this isn't the project Avellone talked about. Get it in your thickheaded skull l3lood angel

Chris Avellone: [Game development studio] Obsidian has talked about Kickstarter for some time. Not to put myself or Planescape down, but the range of ideas we've had internally for a KS are, IMO, better than doing a spiritual successor to Torment, and it involves more of the powerhouses in the studio rather than turning me into the Nameless One.

Failing hard at reading comprehension are you?

I have read that several people drew conclusions from the kickstarter video background showing party formations from the infinity engine games. I think that was only there for show, no reason to get excited.

Awesome new setting? Elves, dwarfs...
World with portals? Here, have some concept of guns...
MCA and TC working on the game? Well yeah, but they have a full time job, so they will drop in to say hi, time to time.
6 people party like infinity games? Not likely, with the amount of companions.

I think hoax is the appropriate term for this. I would not be surprised if they would outsource people from mainland China to do a game for them...

Don't know if anyone else posted this already, but from the KS comments a while ago, by Feargus:

As for the engine, we should be talking about that pretty soon. I can tell you that it will be a combination of 2D and 3D. Characters will be all 3D, while backgrounds will be a combination. And, we hear you on GoG - we've been getting a lot of those requests.

This game is going to be so bad, it'll destroy kickstarter completely and halt the long awaited resurrection of the golden age of crpgs forever.

Perhaps you should look into making a list of your PC components, right down to nitty gritty including how it is placed in Feng Shui terms, and market it as 'The Secret Recipe to Proper Enjoyment of Games Made by Obsidian' for some crazy profit.

The bizarre degree of pure undirected anger in this post inspires one of those moments in me where I reflect on the human race and how, yes, I truly AM blessed to be me. To think I could easily have been this guy, with just an extra chromosome or one less lobe. Wow.

He's got a point. A group of 5 elves and dwarves, armed with muskets, quick-traveling around a tiny world through portals and developed mainly by a bunch of no-name devs? Is this really what the Codex has been waiting for?

I can't tell if you're serious or what. I can't even tell what you're trying to say.

1) How do you know the group size is 5 or 6?
2) How do you know elves and dwarves are the only possibilities for joinable NPCs?
3) What's wrong with muskets?
4) Quick-traveling? I was under the impression the world would have Arcanum/Fallout-style world-map travel.
5) Tiny world? How do you figure?
6) Portals? Where does that come from?
7) Who are the no-name devs who are "mainly" developing the game? JE Sawyer is the lead, and he has said MCA and Tim Cain will be heavily involved as well.

Has "the Codex" been waiting for it? I have no idea, but I sure the fuck have.
