I take it you only show up for Kickstarters?

Yeah. I only swim with sharks when I have a good reason. There's really nowhere else to discuss stuff like this. Before Fargo's Kickstarter I had stayed away from this place for at least a year. Although I'd still occassionally take a peek at the front page for news. Also the character of this place seems to change with an exciting announcement like this. At least it did during the Wastelend 2 kickstarter.

Gosh, the Codex is such an emotional bunch. Everything now sucks

That's good. The amount of love and joy expressed previously was downright sickening. There is no place anything but spite, hatred and discord on the Codex. So it was, and so it shall ever be. Hail Eris.

The stretch goal are disappointing, for sure. But, the butthurt in this thread is still amazing. Do you really think said Fantasy world won't have twists in it or (possible) deconstruct high fantasy. Do you really think this will be a simple LARP player house and not heavily tied to gameplay mechanics and narrative and be something more similiar to Crossroad Keep or atleast the Sink?

Also, for all we know Feargus wrote the stretch goals.

Five companions only!!! BG had 25, BG2 had 17 (sarevok included). With stretch goals it makes seven .
How the fuck am I gonna make a party? .
Also what a lacklustre stretch goals..
Seething with rage and butthurt...

That isn't surprising. The Planescape:Torment part of the game is most likely the writing (not setting) of the game + Companions. And PS:T had 7. So, it would have never reached BG levels.

^ Nah, the true reason is reaching the founding goal. $60000 in less than a day ain't bad. Having said that theyr really need to come up with something more tangible than an NPC. The only real thing I like is the new main questline.

Alright I feel you (that's because PS:T is my fav game) but this is also touted as paying homage to BG and IWD, How are they going to encompass those games especially IWD with this limited options?
Or am I thinking too big scale wise?

I dont know if you're allowed to talk about your budget, but what kind of budget are you working with for Chaos Chronicles? Can you give a rough estimate? Is it like a big kickstart project budget (around 3 million), or 3-10 million, or even 10-20 million?

It's close to the budget that Obsidian already got pledged for Eternity. But it's not a secret, that all veteran U.S. developers are very expensive in production. They have to pay many people in management who don't contribute anything to the actual game. And all those elder developers already have families and therefore they don't work more than 40 hours/week - even for their dream project.

At the moment, nobody really knows details about their game - but for some reasons I think the production value could be a little low at the current level of funding (2D backgrounds, wtf?).

But nevertheless, I really enjoyed Fallout New Vegas - story, characters and dialogues were excellent. So, I really hope they got all their goals funded.

Fuck you guys! Do you hear me? FUCK YOU!!!! You don't deserve this game, you deserve some shitty Bioware faggotry! The development has not even started yet and Obsidian is just throwing around ideas, you started to tear them down. Some of you really cancelled your pledge just because they have player houses? FUCK YOU, YOU RETARDED! Just because they have an idea or two that you don't like?

Damn you made me rage, fucking idiots!

All this backlash is delicious. Toldjya'll it was going to be a low-budget Dragon Age. :smug:
I'm fine with these goals. More classes, races, companions = good (you guys thinking they can make the content equivalent of BG2 with the companion depth of Torment with 1.1 million in 18 months are LOL). More story, new region and faction =plusgood. A house? Well I don't expect every feature in this thing to cater specifically to what I care about.

I'm annoyed that there's not even a hint of a TB option. Shit, is it really that hard to break down time based actions in RTwP into turns?
We don't even know if it uses rounds. I wouldn't be surprised if it was fully real-time like Dragon Age, and a turn-based option would be impossible (ie not worth it in the slightest to even try, see Arcanum) in that case.

Torment in Writing, Interactions and Companions
BG in setting and (presumably) stuff to do
Icewind Dale in "Combat"

+ C&C from their other titles

We can't really make any definite judgment regarding scale. Not World scale as we have no idea how big and how many exisiting regions are in the game.

And not on charachter development as we have no idea how many skills/traits/whatever are in (among other things) and therefore no indication how different you can actually develop a class. I remember Sawyer? saying that there are multiple non-combat skills as well.

Depends. The Codex seems to have some kind of selective memory for the former members of IP,Troika...that are now mostly Obsidian.
Some remember different things.

It's interesting to see that under neath the whole thing is starting to look like hidden DLC, this time only worse renamed in to "listening to fans. "
The funding of WL2 logically seen now was a pointless idea , how would the game become if they had only their goal of 900000, it turned in to 3 mil IIRC, based on the difference WL 2 should be far more than it is right now, regardless of "target audience."
So the whole thing would be apparently complete and utter shit at 900000, that's what the whole thing is telling me.

Also the start with a player house can be a nice thing, but the next thing will be probably characters, romances and fan fiction , what leads to user-oriented content, and not a creative process how it always was in the past. In plain a fuckable Tali removed the option for something else, and problem is there regardless if it's Bioware under EA or Obsidain with Kickstarter. Feels at moments like a masked way of emotional blackmail and a false illusion of player impact , that
gets removed from games and put on credit cards.

They're the developers we need, but not the ones we deserve.

I'd also like to add, that while 5 companion is not a huge number, but with the stretch goals will make this 8 (and I'm sure they will reach it). What 8 is still a low number? Well tell that to that pile of shit game...what is it called....oh yeah, Planescape Torment, which had even less.

Ok, player house is not a good goal for 200.000, but how is that make this game a Bioware faggotry? That's just one option! And please, don't act like a stupid child, and use your brain. It is not easy to quantify ideas. You can't say that one player house feature costs 15.245 dollars, a new companion is 25.2334 etc. They are trying to come up with new features, expand the world, and they try to render these to a number.

As for the lack of info. Double Fine had no information, except the point and click stuff. And your beloved Fargo with Wasteland 2 had jackshit at the time of their kickstarter launch. At least not more than Eternity.

I *choose* to interpret the silly stretch goals as Obsidian saying "just give us enough fucking money (and hence time) to get the game working right, so we can eliminate inconsistent writing, broken quests etc".

Come on! We know these guys. Which of their games had shitty romances? PST, IWD? No. Fallout? No. Kotor 2, it was OK in terms of romances. Have a little faith in them. They are not Bioware, even if some guys would like to believe that.

PST and KOTOR2 had shitty sexist romances. Avellone was against writing romances in AP, but "internal pressure" (*cough*Feargus Urquhart*cough*) forced him to change his mind and I expect something similar to happen here, given the choices they've already made. If it's comparable to MotB I'm fine with it.

J_C: No reason to get excited. This has been the Codex way of handling pretty much every cRPG project of interest to ever show up on KS. The bigger the project, the more overblown and hysterical the reactions, swinging back and forth between exultation and outrage based on every detail divulged (however insignificant). Luckily enough, this has no real impact on anything except maybe making certain people around here look even more petty and small-minded than usual. If the Codex unites behind a cause, it can wield considerable power (especially for smaller projects like Legends of Eisenwald or even Dead State), but the bitching amounts to little more than local color.

There's a good chance George Ziets will join in (from his Formspring posts and I don't think Obsidian would be unwilling) so he can write them if they will be implented. One of MOTB's central themes was a romance after all.

If one of the stretch goals involves bringing in Dave Gaider as a guest writer, I will laugh so much and increase my pledge just to incite more rage.
