We're all forgetting though that Avellone and Sawyer loathe romances. Sawyer's been quite explicit in disliking them for largely being masturbatory egostroking for the player and generally quite sexist.

I've rambled about Biodrones demanding romances but honestly it's highly unlikely to be implemented when neither dev is particularly interested in the subject.

And I'd rather Ziets came on to bring in all the stuff he's mentioned on his formspring to make the setting more interesting and varied rather than to write a 'good' romance.

J_C: No reason to get excited. This has been the Codex way of handling pretty much every cRPG project of interest to ever show up on KS. The bigger the project, the more overblown and hysterical the reactions, swinging back and forth between exultation and outrage based on every detail divulged (however insignificant). Luckily enough, this has no real impact on anything except maybe making certain people around here look even more petty and small-minded than usual. If the Codex unites behind a cause, it can wield considerable power (especially for smaller projects like Legends of Eisenwald or even Dead State), but the bitching amounts to little more than local color.
I know, I just thought that the Codex will behave racionally this time, since this is a kickstarter almost everyone was looking forward. Yet, they are histerical.

Roguey, I don't consider the romances of PST shitty. They were barely there, even less than in BG2. So much that it was easy to miss them. And if the game will have romances, I will be OK if they are on the level of PST.

Also the start with a player house can be a nice thing, but the next thing will be probably characters, romances and fan fiction -
Come on! We know these guys. Which of their games had shitty romances? PST, IWD? No. Fallout? No. Kotor 2, it was OK in terms of romances. Have a little faith in them. They are not Bioware, even if some guys would like to believe that.

Sure. This whole thing is however a problem with Us-The players.
The ideal case would allow me to give Obsidian my money under Terms of Service that are preventing ME-the entitled bastard to legitimately bash them in to Oblivion if I don't get to bang what I want to bang , or hate the blue carpet in my house. So far away from some user- brand kick shit.
It creates a dangerous exception that the road to better and improvement goes thru:" Jack of all trades, master of none. "

It's not the time now. And Fergus is not the right person for Obsidian. There are many things the player should influence nearly all ,except the story, because then the next level is Bioware. And this is exactly what the players will do, oh yes and mindless bashing for no console versions.

The games above that You mentioned are maybe based on player feedback, not on player demand, and even then they would sometimes slip. What happened to friendship in a RPG , yea no player demand.

I'd also like to add, that while 5 companion is not a huge number, but with the stretch goals will make this 8 (and I'm sure they will reach it). What 8 is still a low number? Well tell that to that pile of shit game...what is it called....oh yeah, Planescape Torment, which had even less.

Yes, PST had less but Obsidian is promising tactical combat. PST's combat, with your massive three-person party, was a joke.

If there's another awful player-pandering Betty/Veronica romance in Dullsville I will rain hellfire on Obsidian.

There's a good chance George Ziets will join in (from his Formspring posts and I don't think Obsidian would be unwilling) so he can write them if they will be implented. One of MOTB's central themes was a romance after all.
If one of the stretch goals involves bringing in Dave Gaider as a guest writer, I will laugh so much and increase my pledge just to incite more rage.

Well there goes my optimism out of the windows. If that happens, I will....I willl...I don't know what I will do, but it will be messy.

1. The development has not even started yet and Obsidian is just throwing around ideas, you started to tear them down. 2. Just because they have an idea or two that you don't like?

3. Damn you made me rage, fucking idiots!

1. What ideas? Hey guys we are making a new fantasy world. It will be populated with elves, dwarfs, orcs and for 500K you can have mysterious elves that have dark skin and live underground. And you can facilitate your epic ass in your house for measly 200k.

2. Right now I would be at odds to think of an idea that I actually like.

3. I didn't cancel my pledge, nor I plan on doing it. But there are people who donated not because of BG remake, but because of PST and it's not like were are getting even noticed...

Nothing You can do.
It's just that time and mainstream have overrun us, we are now sounds of silence and pings from the void.

That tweet is at least a few months old.

Also Obsidian controlled David Gaider (provided he doesn't work on any romances) isn't exactly the worst thing you could salvage from Bioware. At least he has Hordes of the Underdark and the few good parts of the Dragon Age lore behind him.

Now imagine they would hire Jennifer Helper.....

People who pledged yesterday and withdrew their pledge today are fucking morons. Yesterday they were happy with what the developers were offering for 1.1 mil. Today, Obsidian are saying, look guys, you will get everything we promised yesterday plus all this stuff if the funding allows it. And what the drama queens do? They take their money away, because apparently, the *additional* content they didn't even know about yesterday is detrimental to their enjoyment. This is fucked up on so many levels...

Should just set a single stretch goal at a few mil that says "We'll hire enough QA testers to not release a buggy mess." Everyone could get behind that.

them morons thought they would get at least 20 companions with the deepness of torment and motb combined, a 100h long campaign, thousands of classes to choose from and a game so full of words that it rivals the encyclopedia britannica. all of that and even more for just 1.1mio dollars... god, those retards should try to develope their own game to ground their expectations to a reasonable frame.

Kickstarter is a new thingie, so developers didn't figure it out yet. The stretch goals for Dead State, for example, were quite silly. As for Obsidian, they probably should have asked for more in the beginning and don't bother with the stretch goals at all. Does it really impact how many people will pledge? It would be better to release some concept art or details about the role system. Or maybe a screenshot or two, but it may be too early for that.

Just shows that VD is probably right and most people pledge for the "dream". If the dream starts turning into a nightmare, then well...

Roguey, you bitch.

As I remember, Avellone has several times expressed his man-love for Gaider. Doesn't mean he's gonna get to work on the game, but Avellone most likely doesn't think it would be a bad idea.

The development has not even started yet and Obsidian is just throwing around ideas, you started to tear them down. Some of you really cancelled your pledge just because they have player houses? FUCK YOU, YOU RETARDED! Just because they have an idea or two that you don't like?

Damn you made me rage, fucking idiots!

that's the same thing i was thinking about the whole time. show some concepts, a rough alpha build and ask for 3mio$ right from the start. it will work because the momentum of reaching such a huge goals is crazy and drives almost on it's own, the more so if you're such a well known and famous developer like obsidian. the pledges for every kickstarter project fall flat after reaching the innitial goal.
