That screenshot certainly looks promising, but I am still worried we might get another IWD/IWD2.

Good enough for me. :smug:

No doubt many people would like that, but I would be rather disappointed. However, there seems to be a shitton of lore created for the game, so the hope for a more narrative-driven game is not unfounded

Uh the game is gonna have two Athkatla-sized cities. Of course it won't be an Icewind Dale clone.

I keep forgetting about the cities, because the scope of the game seems pretty unrealistic given the budget and time, but You are right of course.

If anything it looks more like IWD. Not that IWD is original, but it's been obvious for a long time that Obsidian are playing it safe and will always do so. There's no "artistic freedom" in slam-dunks.

Wow a game pitched as an 'IE-style game' looks a bit.... like an IE game.

Let's break out the sackcloth and ashes and speculate that the writing will be shit.

Could you tell me the lottery numbers for the next week while you're at it?
Determining whether or not something is a slam dunk is an observation not a prediction.

I'll be very happy with a copy of IWD, IWD2, BG1 or BG2. Not the best they could do, sure, but I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I think they'd have to actively try in order to make it worse than BG2's writing.

What?

At least codex is showing its hidden diversity, didn't we discuss around 50 pages in the project eternity thread on how P:E wasn't enough like an IE game and thus Obsidian lied to us?

Now it's too much like an Obsidian game and Obsidian was too honest?

Determining whether or not something is a slam dunk is an observation not a prediction.

You can't observe something that hasn't yet happened. Unless you are psychic. Which is why I want those lottery numbers.
One can tell whether or not a project is a slam dunk before it's been released. That's the point of making them.

The typical Urquhartian "slam dunk" is a same engine sequel or spinoff made on the cheap. Capitalizing on the popularity of an existing intellectual property while spending less money.

PE is a new IP using new technology so it's not a slam dunk, except perhaps in the very limited sense of being similar to some games that were released over a decade ago.
