Starting to be vaguely embarrassed that I ever thought this might actually happen. There's a 1.4 Megabyte zip file called Treats at https://archive.org/details/mother-4-oddity that apparently has a dll necessary to get at least one build to run.
I still have hope that it can succeed, seeing that Cognitive Dissonance, a fangame of the Mother series, got made AND even got an "enhanced edition". Granted, it's held back by the lack of experience of the devs and using RPGMaker, but the passion is here.
Unless Oddity's devs have trannies and/or ugly men (or alleged women), then it's most certainly going to fail in said case.

Legend of Utorepia, a short NES-style RPG originally released in 2014.

ss_12ad1e891939ac1358cf083f1848699240b65b74.600x338.jpg

Originally it was released as freeware (and it is still available as one: https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/7388) but it seems Steam version will be a paid one.

A feature-length retro RPG developed by imayui , in Japan. (First released in 2014)
It is a work that respects the RPG of NES and pursues NES-like.
You can experience a new adventure that is not just nostalgic such as walking on the field of the world map, capturing various dungeons, getting a ship, and crossing the sea of the world, with a mysterious story and world view that goes beyond nostalgia.

story
As the Last Hero, you will be ordered by the King and set out.
You ask, "Where should go?", The King just says, "Well ... isn't it the Evil King's Castle? Go to the Evil King's Castle."
With an ambiguous purpose, you will travel around towns and dungeons, solving various incidents , and gradually step into the core of the story.

Cannibalistic otters, a great floodgate, bizarre monster swarms, mysterious night theater, a ship traveling in the desert, deep tropical caves, three jinn, secret elixir, sleeping sick daughter ... Let's go to the world of Utorepia!

feature
  • Play time 5-10 hours
  • Retro pixel art graphics, BGM, and system are all made by one person.
  • You can enjoy the world of retro games at a comfortable playing speed.
  • 2D screen, top view field, side view battle, random encounter
  • Warrior / Sumo wrestler / Thief / Hunter / Cotton mage / Mottled mage / Maron mage …… Choose from 7 jobs to make a character (a team of maximum 4 people, 1 to 3 people is also possible)
  • Weapon proficiency and magic proficiency are available, and parameters increase according to how you fight. You are free to equip any weapon, learn any magic, and grow it.
  • With the prey system, you can sell monsters defeated in battle as prey and exchange them for money, or make weapons and armor.

* I plan to implement early access to improve usability and adjust the balance.
* The English version is currently a tentative translation by the author and is in the process of being translated.

The last part is bit worrying...

Interestingly the developer of this game now works at Alicesoft and directed its indie label's first game, Hentai Labyrinth.

Does this go here?

https://www.gematsu.com/2021/10/com...ping-indie-game-to-be-announced-on-november-6
Composer Shoji Meguro leaves Atlus, developing indie game to be announced on November 6

His game is listed on Steam. It's titled Guns Undarkness, a "stealth RPG", coming 2023.

【overview】
"Guns Undarkness" is a "Stealth RPG" that combines typical stealth game features such as remaining undetected and invading antagonist’s territory, with the traditional command type JRPG. The gameplay is roughly divided into two parts: a stealth part that hides on the field and a battle part that is developed by a turn-based command-type battle system. Encountering without being found by the enemy allows you to enter the battle in an advantageous manner. Aim for the depths of the antagonist’s territory while managing your resources well.
The main weapons of the protagonists are firearms such as hand guns and assault rifles. By defeating enemies and obtaining materials, you can customize the equipped gun more powerfully.

【story summary】
The story takes place in the year 2045, in a devastated world after a nuclear war, where you become a member of a PMC (Private Military Company) and carry out missions with your peers. Amid fierce battles, the protagonists realize the “true love” that will lead humanity to a higher level of existence.

【game developer】
The game was designed, composed and developed by Shoji Meguro, a legendary game designer who worked as a composer and director for the “Persona” series and the “Shin Megami Tensei” series. The lyrics of songs are written by Lotus Juice, also from the "Persona" series. And Ilya Kuvshinov, an up-and-coming Russian illustrator known for his work on "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045", will create characters that give color to the game world.

And unrelated, but Kodansha, the big Japanese manga publisher, is now publishing indie games on Steam. One of them is strategy-ish thing.

Also side-scroller and some co-op puzzle.

Falcom to release new Trails title in Japan by September 2022
Ys series will also celebrate its 35th anniversary.
Falcom_11-11-21-320x180.jpg

Falcom has published its financial results (2) for the fiscal year ending September 2021, which reveals that a new Trails series is planned for release by September 2022, and that the company plans to develop Switch titles in-house starting in 2022.

Here are the key bullets from Falcom’s outlook for the fiscal year ending September 2022:

  • 2022 marks the 35th anniversary of Falcom’s flagship Ys series. Other than a budget price version of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox for PlayStation 4, additional product(s) are also planned.
  • Starting in 2022, Falcom will develop Switch titles internally, starting with the Switch version of The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails.
  • In the fiscal year ending September 2022, Falcom plans to release the latest entry in the Trails series. Trails is one of Falcom’s flagship series, with over six million copies sold worldwide and accolades from the Japan Game Awards, Famitsu Awards, PlayStation Awards, and more.
  • Falcom will promote multiplatform game development across consoles, PC, and smartphones for Japan, North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as actively utilize its intellectual properties to produce new titles that act as new challenges for the company, including the Trails and Ys series.

I've said this before, but I wouldn't mind if they moved on from Trails. There are now nearly 3 times as many trails games as there are other Legend of Heroes titles before this sub-series began. (14 trails games in total by now)

They might as well just drop *The Legend of Heroes*.

Well, they already killed Ys. The last two or 3 sucked a lot.
I loved all Ys games up to Origin, but the moment they decided to force some braindead NPCs to run around and help you fight, the franchise was dead to me.
Exactly! I still replay old Ys in almost every console and computer I can get it because I really love the series, but I don't want to play any of the most recent ones.

It was only "50% done" a few games ago.

Kondo seems to be happy plodding along selling ~500k per title with a lot of asset recycling to save costs. The bigger margins are clearly in the merchandise business anyway.

A modern isekai game (aka one with a boring OP protagonist)? That's new, or not as common instead of making an anime.
I like how it says it has Denuvo as if it was a predetermined decision, despite the latest shitstorm regarding it.
