Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I want those ranked unlocks gone. You could unlock everything in the original without being graded. Exception was the Mercenaries mode, whose plays were short enough that I didn't mind acing them all. But a whole playthrough? Nah. The Japanese obsession with grades in games is tiresome.

I'm more curious about what Merc mode will unlock in the main game now (if anything) considering that all the old unlockables have been moved to ranked main game completion.

Well, I kind of agree with him (the "reviewer") but for different reasons. I don't care for panty shots per se but along with other fun interactions they were part of RE4's goofy charm and "Japanese perviness". The original devs knew people will try to look under her skirt so they programmed all those easter eggs, the remake just feels soulless and made by the numbers by comparison.
So...like the last two remakes then?
RE3 was a quickly slapped together disappointment, but as far as I know there's nothing wrong with RE2.

The fans say that but I did not love it. All I saw was Mr X walking around like a dumbass the entire game.

So this doesn't look that bad, possibly Crapcom's most valuable and least disgraceful (to the original) remake. Without doing a deep dive, looks like they've generally kept the original spirit and quality alive and well, and even improved some things, which is beyond surprising. I'll pick it up when it's 5-10 bucks in a few years time.

How would describe the gunplay?
it gets better in the late game once you install a laser sight, and learn which guns to avoid. Red9 got nerfed HARD and has shit tier accuracy now, TMP is next to useless thanks to the bullet spread and inconsistent stagger.

The thing that I don't really like is that the game feels less precise now. Enemies have randomized hit reactions (probably because of adaptive difficulty) - sometimes they stagger, sometimes they don't. Leon walks like a sack of potatoes, and it is hard to get used to.

Someone clearly never tried to get the handcannon

Both on the Gamecube and on PC many years later.

Had to look up how you get the handcannon because I couldn't remember.

It was harder to grind 1 000 000 pesetas to buy a handcannon, than to unlock it in The Mercenaries.

You are certainly more patient than I am

Apparently, Capcom thought Mercenaries was too hard or time-consuming as well, because it wasn't included in the achievements for the Steam version. Found it fun at the time. Never got into Mercenaries in RE5 for some reason. Just noticed as I checked the achievements that they renamed the Steam version to "Resident Evil 4 (2005)."

Pretty much standard re2/3 remake
That kinda lazy of their part
Not to mention I don't think REmake 2 gunplay is suited for something as intense RE4 mob waves

Red9 got nerfed HARD
Man that sucks
'Twas my favourite pistol in the original

See that kinda confuses me
The footage looks cool as hell, like a more "deliberate" version of RE6 combat
But then there's reports on the gameplay like yours and it just paints the opposite picture...

- Ashley's AI (you can no longer order her to wait in one place, I found certain sections of the game to be way harder because of that as she kept getting herself killed);
- Ashley's health (her AI is dumber, so my guess is that devs removed her healthbar after playtesters complained that she kept getting damaged);
- minecart section is way worse - the ride itself is very short, you can't move while in the cart, all enemies die in one hit except for a chainsaw freak, and you also have infinite ammo (because the devs had to prevent players from running out of ammo).

:whatho:

Also, lol at Ash (of all people) getting suprised that this remake is more faithful than the remakes of 2 & 3, overall. Of course nu-Capcom is gonna treat their precious RE4 better than the previous entries.

The absolute state of zoomers and modern game design.
If they'd allow you to order her to stay put they wouldn't need to get rid her health bar, and if the players keep wasting their ammo that's their problem.

Everyone who bought this remake for full price are responsible for every fault, flaw, and shortcoming in this soulless remake.

Crapcom knew you would buy their turd day 1. You were warned about this games shortcomings almost a whole week before it's release but you have no self control. As soon as the new shiny thing is out you fork over the cash every time.

You should have buyers remorse. But buyers remorse actually requires the brain capacity to think and reflect on decisions. RE4 fanboys are completely incapable of this.

Instead of "wait/follow" the game now uses "stick close/stay away". She follows you in both modes, the "stay away" mode is useful when you don't want her to get in the way during combat.

There were areas (for example, the one with catapults and a cannon) where regardless of her "mode" she kept getting knocked out, and it was almost impossible to help her because she was under constant fire.

it's not easy to pull something like this off, whoever did the video probably had to reload a checkpoint multiple times.

Also the cool flip-cocking terminator 2 shotgun is locked behind pre-order bonus :deathclaw:

If only the modders spent this effort on actually cool costumes. Like for RE2 and 3 they could have replaced Jill and Claire's plain jeans and tank tops with 1998-style clothes. Never been interested in playing these games like a long joke.
