Not going to read the whole thread, just going to say that RE4 came out 18 years ago, sperging out about it to this day is just sad regardless whether it was shit or not.

finished this on Hard(core) ~9hours or so:

I found it be a largely mediocre experience that whose strongest points are its variety

-movement is far too slow, making exploration, and backtracking, feel laborious
-combat feels a bit limp, I would have like to have seen much more gore and dismemberment
-it wasn't clear to me what reset the merchant's ability to sell you ammo, but I was hardly, if ever, starved for resources. You can pretty much wipe out all of the encounters the game throws at you. I did find one exception to this, but that was tied to an optional backtracking treasure item
-my 2 favorite bits were the opening holdout sequence + the first half of the House Beneviento. These were the only options of the game that I thought flirted with greatness
-tried mercenaries for a round and got so bored (again, limp combat)
-no reason to replay, google says extra hard just turns enemies into HP bloated pinatas
-I like the Hub based world design, would definitely like to see this fleshed out more (preferably with better movement)
:2/5:

I'd rank this w/the lower tier RE games, along with 7, and Rev 1. Capcom needs to tighten the first person movement and combat to get me to give a damn.

Stoked to nab RE4R once the GOTY edition releases.

well of course it's a gaijin. Capcom should've stuck to the goofy ESL writing instead of hiring w*stoids.

Nah, it seems like a blatant retcon to me, one just to please twitter and the masses.

The Big mommy and her daughters tease Ethan during the entire castle section, with spicy comments and their body language. The lore in documents explain that they devour men and drink their blood, and also they use women on experiments to turn them into monsters (The ghouls you see in the dungeon part are the maidens of the castle). If anything, this seems to show the opposite: They are monsters who fetichise their prey.

It must be accepted that the masturbation is, in the final analysis, always a homosexual act. Rather than being the expression of our nature's orientation towards the complementary Other, it is always an act of self-satisfaction of an ego that, in what it would have as an ecstatic act, is utterly folded unto itself. So homosexual sex is always masturbation just as 'heterosexual' masturbation is always homosexual.
What then if the synthetic female image with which a gamer pleasures himself is applied a label 'lesbian'? If anything there is to this a degree of perverse appropriateness. A young man masturbating to synthetic image of lesbian vampires engaged in lesbian 'sex': this is but a truth of extremity, for any masturbation is already an obeisance to Lilith, being a wasteful expenditure of seed in at least implicit opposition to life, and any masturbation is already homosexual.

Played the 60 minute demo just now. For fifteen minutes. Annoying. How they can even call this Resident Evil anymore, I don't know. It so badly tries to be something else. The fight with the talkative swarm lady in shitty first-person view with gun locked to protagonist's eyes (which is so distracting and gay after not playing play first-person shooters more than briefly for as long as I have) tonally and mechanically felt nothing like RE1 to 5. (Don't remember 6 well and didn't finish 7.) The scripted animations were lame too. Nice tech demo, though.

Me: He does all these stunts that you could perform yourself in real life with equilibrium or in a third person game with a consistent sense of where up is, while in a first person game the whole world spins and gets thrown around in disorienting crappiness.

He fights unarmed, and you have a better sense of space between Jones and his combatant with the camera outside Jones. You are provided with something closer to peripheral vision when you play in third person, and can look around for other opponents and objects to be used in the fight or for escape without interrupting whatever Jones is doing.

You can look left and right at the environment as you run, while a first person Jones will inevitably only be able to run with the stick pushed forward and change direction if you try to look around, like his upper body and eyes are in a vise with his legs. Modern first person shooters that let you fully run in other directions are uncommon, especially in the AAA space. All the protagonists move like tanks. Jones runs in every movie.

You can also feel the incline of whatever is under your feet in real life and see it in third person.

A common argument is that first person doesn't have the character blocking your view. How much he blocks your view obviously depends on how close, how high and how much in the horizontal center the cam is. Certainly, we wouldn't want every narrative-driven action and adventure game to be in the tight over the shoulder perspective. Besides, the guns in first person view do block visibility significantly, particularly as almost all devs insist on having us aim down iron sights.

Him: I'm never going to say 1st person view makes it impossible to have good mechanics of this type, because Respawn proved you can with Titanfall 2. We'll see if this studio can come close to the masterpiece that game had, in terms of the single player platforming mechanics.

Me: Titanfall 2 has the same problems. VR circumvents them, but introduces problems of its own.

Him: What "problems"? I have literally beaten that game a half dozen times and not once did I feel frustrated by the mechanics.

Me: Everything you quoted. Frustration is irrelevant. I wasn't talking about your feelings, I talked facts. Anything Titanfall 2 does a third person shooter can do better. You now make me repeat everything that I already explained because you didn't actually read and comprehend/respect it, which is just rude.

Titanfall 2 doesn't have that sense of equilibrium because of the chaotic first person camera. You can roll around and throw yourself to the floor in real life (and third person) and will maintain a sense of balance. First person does not have that sense of balance because your brain and the stones in your ears are not in the game. Third person emulates that balance by placing the cam outside of the character.

The Titanfall 2 character can't look to the side while running, because his head movement is tied to his legs. He has terrible peripheral vision. You can't feel his legs and don't know where his feet are without looking down. You don't know what the incline he is on is like unless you start moving again.

The guns blocking your view are big, and become bigger or take up more of the central space that matters most as you aim down the sights. I can't remember how good the accuracy is without ADS.

Also can't remember if the run button in Titanfall 2 is deactivated while moving sideways and backwards. Probably is.

The Titanfall 2 character doesn't punch and grab/shove people like Indiana Jones. He doesn't have to improvise with objects in the environment because he has many more guns with more ammo than Jones. If he did need to do these things, then it would be easier in third person view, because the player can see the space between more easily.

Him: Maybe you just suck at the game.

49 (50 now maybe?) pages dedicated to this bland asf modern trash filled with simp bait. Codex general gaming filled with men of standards.

Well, still a better Option that reddit. They currently have an ongoing "best video game characters" poll in alphabetical order, one per letter. Behold:

3tnpop9g8t1e1.jpeg

That's how limited their exposure is, two are from the same damn game, and said game is not even about the characters anyway, but the gameplay (Mario).
