Im soon done with Lost Judgement and on the fence with Like a Dragon: Ishin!. While I love the idea of Yakuza game in the samurai period I am a bit off put with appearance of characters from main Yakuza series. It just feels immersion breaking to me.

Im just wondering if the game is good by itself and does the game manages to overcome this issue.

my 2 cents after 10+ hours

it feels like playing a fanfiction game. I DO find the inclusion of familiar faces jarring, and it sure doesn't help remembering their names since I just say "hey it's Adachi! hey it's Majima! hey it's Date! etc"
it also FEELS very low budget, and reminds me of Yakuza 3 in that there's many cutscenes with no music. The combat is pretty boring and limited compared to what you're playing. Also feels kinda silly how enemies only die in cutscenes, but during random encounters and such, rubber swords. Thus far I'd easily say it's mid teir for me.

Always been a staple of Yakuza hasn't it? I remember Kiryu tapping enemies like they were maple trees with broken bottles in Kiwami 1 dunno if that was in original Yakuza I never got around to finishing that.

For whatever it's worth - I was worried about the exact same thing. Yet, the general style of Ishin! together with the story it tells, led to this feeling kind of as if a large movie studio specialising in crime series decided to shoot a historical drama, using the actors it had on hand. This ended up feeling the good kind of campy.

The combat (air juggle, the wrist watch grapple) looks cartoonish and not in a good way, in a "I made my first action game" way.

Uh kiryu james bond is out?

Damn coco you are a COW.

What's with the RL chicks in the hostess part of the game. Not really kept with it, more streamers being seamlessly shoved into the game nonsense? Seems a bit jarring (granted we had those videos in Y0, I guess) and corner-cutty to me.
