Still enjoying the hell out of Asgard's Wrath 2. Great visuals, good swordplay and blocking, a good amount of free exploration and side content if not totally open world, satisfying hits, and it even handles special abilities well. I can cast a spell and hold it in place, summon several more, redirect one of them if necessary, but while i'm doing this i'm having to keep out of range of enemies and parry if they get too close. And that's just with the one character i'm using, and the one build i've created.

I'm getting more out of this than any recent game to date. Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate, etc.

I was saying for years that it shouldn't be hard to make full RPGs in VR and this is what I mean. There is so much potential in this medium yet untapped. If we could get good writers not beholden to DEI on top? We would be so fucking back.

Also, side note. There really needs to be more racing/spaceship combat games in VR. This medium handles this very well and it's very under-explored. Yet again, the best ones to do this are some indie games I can't even remember the titles of anymore.

One mad-lad created a mech-piloting demo in VR, but that particular one was very unfinished. Still, the potential is there and it's far superior to a controller and screen.

VR still being niche makes it relatively unpozzed. Lack of games and yet there are some ocassional gems here and there unlike in AAA slop factory. I'd rather have it that way for now.

Personally i wouldn't say no to any ports of older first person games like Arx Fatalis or Deus Ex for vr. Even something more modern like Deus EX HR would benefit from it.

But i doubt they will start making super high budget rpgs built for VR any time soon. And maybe it's for the best to not bring all that faggotry that follows modern rpg genre like a shadow.

that's actually a good point. there is no poz and good variety (if you take time to look) in VR because it has no mainstream appeal yet. careful what you wish for and all that

Skyrim VR mod is a truly amazing world. You can grab apples, throw them, put a bucket on your head and hit the blacksmith's signpost with your sword. It's a truly labour of love by a herd of different moders. It's still Skyrim though, not that it's bad, but the story and the characters are bare bones.

I can attest. Skyrim VR synergizes with so many mods that it's really ahead of almost everything. You can improve visuals as much as your pc allows it, install gore mods and not rely on shitty killcam anymore just cut someones arm off with a sword power attack, can grab enemy in combat or grab npcs and they become angry, easily block while dual weilding with a simple mod, there are AI mods that let you talk with npc and manipulate them, coomer mods ... of course, you can order food in taverns and eat it using cutlery, grab someone as a werewolf and then throw them few meters away.

It's like a prototype of stereotypical virtual reality game people become addicted to in crappy 90s sci fi movies.

The only downside is that you have to assemble all that shit yourself and avoid crashes.

I actually agree with a lot of these points. Hopefully Valve does something with VR soon.

One of my favorite moments from when I first got the game was picking up one of those big boulders they drop on your head as a trap. I went into stealth mode, found a high point, and dropped it on a guys head. It did damage as it should. Little moments like that matter.

I also appreciate modders for not forgetting the VR players. I consider the visible-armor mod and the mod that lets you block with dual weapons or unarmed a must. It's also worth installing all the texture packs you can and taking a stroll into the Imperial City and surrounding areas.

More importantly, how are the loverslabs mods in VR?

Asking for a friend?

Adult games for VR are mostly dogshit. It's not VAM but Skyrim with HIGGS\VRIK\CBPC combo + Sexlab VR does better job than 99% of such games. And far less costly for your pc... again depending on replacers etc.

And i obviously don't know all of that first hand, just done some research. Swear on me mum.

So, how do the current VR sets stack up against each other? I'm always curious how this evolves each year.

I have only ever used the Oculus/Quest but:

Oculus Rift: Worthless trash, throw it away.

Quest 2: Usable, reliable, inexpensive, the best starter set.

Quest 3: A distinct visual improvement, can play more things natively, otherwise not so different.

Any list with the Quest series should include its main competition Pico 4.

  • They are basically like the Quest 2 in terms of internal power and the Quest 3 in terms of visual quality. If you are interested in entry level PCVR I would pick Pico 4 since they are cheaper,
  • If you want stand alone VR, Meta's store is a lot more complete and the Quest 3 are marginally more powerful.
  • Pico 4 has longer battery life than Quest 3 (3h vs 2h), which is something to take into account.
  • Pico 4 has no 3.5mm for earplugs, its integrated speakers are excellent as far as I can tell, but I guess if you have a refined hearing you might want to use something better, which you can only use by connecting them to its sole USB-C port.

That's of course if you don't get in the actual market of PCVR designed googles, the thing is most models are quite old and a new development in lenses and panels is expected soon(tm). For example the Valve Index 2 has been expected to arrive soon for a long time so ... who knows...

Btw, do not underestimate the importance of wireless streaming, Quest and Pico do it pretty well, I hear PlayStation VR does so too, but playing tethered with an USB cable... I guess you get used to it, but being able to physically turn yourself rather than using a joystick to turn is, imo, priceless.

The biggest difference is in comfort. I used Vive, Oculus CV1, PS VR1, Quest 2, Quest 3 and i can say that Pico4 is the first headset where i can use it for 6-12 hours straight without issues like VR face, not feeling weight etc. This is both because they moved battery to back of your head which you can emulate with elite strap with battery for Quest2/3 but the biggest difference is that whole thing is much lighter and it has pancake lenses way before Quest3 had it.

Resolution i still higher than both Quest 2 and 3 but imho performance wise the biggest difference is in FOV. With standard cushion you can get pretty wide fov if you tighten it enough. But with proper aftermarket thin cushion which is both more comfortable and closer to lenses i can get FOV around Index FOV which is around 120. For comparison Quest 2 fov is around 95 and quest 3 around 100 so it is good deal higher. I think they wanted that space to get people with glasses to use it which decreased a lot FOV.

Just started Metro Awakening. Pretty much garbage so far

Finished roughly half of the game back in december, maybe more, then abandoned it. Just can't bring myself to continue playing this piece of shite... all the walking simulator gameplay with non stop schizo banters between granpa protag and poorly voiced millenial idiots was just too much.

Will unistall it to clear space for some better game.

RTX5090 is much better than expected in VR. Metro Awakening on 4344x4580 per eye on high settings runs at 109 FPS on 5090 compared to 4090's 44 FPS.
