Given Risen 1 was a lot better than DA1, and Risen 2 was a lot better than DA2, all they have to do is promise me they'll do right and I'm sold.

Only thing I wonder is if they can come up with an interesting setting.
Er, almost certainly not? It's Risen 3, therefore it will retain the setting of previous Risen games which is the setting of Gothic games without all the original elements that made the Gothic setting interesting. That means the setting will be boring as fuck, but then again one does not play Risen games for the setting.

No. Don't post stupid stuff. Thanks. :)

Yeah, Risen 2 retained a LOT of Risen 1's setting, amirite :troll:
Actually, yes, Risen 2's setting is consistent with Risen 1's, it only places emphasis on different aspects, notably the pirate theme, which, by the way, was quite strongly present in Risen 1 as well (the pirate captain Romanov multi-quest, Patty, etc.). Yes, some elements of the lore were a little upjumped to suit the pirate theme better, like substitution of the elemental magic by guns, but the setting is undoubtedly the same, serving to accomodate the overarching storyline of titans getting loose from their imprisonment.

One of the key things about Risen 1 when it came out was a more tropical and colonial setting, which everyone welcomed. I was quite glad because let's face it, as well done as the Gothic world is, the basic premises are about as colourful as a block of concrete. It's just that the way they inserted the pirate theme in Risen 2 had to be through a Pirates of the Carribean plot progression.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing voodoo stuff done better, but the most interesting thing in Risen they should return to really is the colonial stuff, not the fucking Titans. The Titans are the worst, it's like you're reading Papillon and suddenly a band of Godzillas come crash the party.

Inquisition went from fighting with staffs to... firearms. Just a teeny bit of a jump there. Anyway, not surprising. The Humble Derp Silver Bundle was made for a reason: Saints 2 and 3 to promote Saints Row 4, Sacred 2 and Sacred Citadel to promote Sacred 3, and Risen 1 and 2 to promote Risen 3.

I loved the colonial and pirate setting in Risen 2. I would say that's what got me through the game actually, when the third island and all the ones after that ended up being shite.

Then you'll probably enjoy AssCreed IV (not that I recommend the game).

Would you like to go back to developing a new Gothic game?

Oh, ok, the following only represents my own opinion:

To be honest: not really. The one who develops a new Gothic, will get his fingers burned. He will be slashed by magazines and burned alive by die hard fans.

The expectations for this game would be so high, we couldn’t meet them.

The times have changed, the Gothic games lived up by a different mood, we were much more experimental back in the day. Something that was very exciting and the player could feel this loose and playful approach, but this also led to exorbitant developing times and many many bugs. We fixed this, but we also parted from this sand box developing approach.

Probably a wise decision if they're so uncertain about it in the first place. Not to mention I imagine a lot of changed in PB since the days of good Gothic games.

.

And the older I get, I also recognize a bad habit of not paying much attention to dialogues anymore but getting all frenzy on analyzing graphics.

I think this is something that most people that ask for successors to old games seem to ignore. Even if the whole team got together again the game would probably be very different because they're different people now.

That's why I'm keeping my expectations low for all the Kickstarter projects I've backed.

Well sure, the problem is that they have fixed their sandbox problem by making a shitty game. The remedy is worse than the disease.

The problem with game development today: The developers think what they want and how they feel is more important than what the consumer wants or feels. They think it's about them having a good time at their job instead of the player having a good time.
