This time with ripping off Mortal Kombat characters to get some payback for stealing Raiden's design from the movie!

But seriously, i would play that game, normal trucker being forced into supernatural and martial arts shenanigans should make for a really fun game and a sequel of sorts could be fun.

Personally I think a first person shooter where you're really slow and really hard to kill and the majority of enemies are basic humans with hirscan guns actually has a lot of potential.

It's fun if you're in the mood for that setting

Being in the mood for the Terminator setting is pretty much the entire point of playing a Terminator game though, especially Resistance which isn't just some paint job over a generic FPS but actually every piece of it is all about Terminator - they took a few seconds from a couple of movies and made an entire world while everywhere you'd look it'd hook to the first two films.

My point was that, if a game is good enough, it will grab you regardless. Resistance isn't that good. It's a middle-of the-pack shooter. Not terrible but not very good either.

Indeed, though if they take into account the third movie (which wasn't that well received at the time so they might ignore it) Robocop also had a jetpack there at some point so that could be a neat feature to introduce verticality despite moving slow.

Also while Robocop does move slow (i mean, he just walks, it isn't like he crawls), he also has a car to move around faster.

My point was that, if a game is good enough, it will grab you regardless. Resistance isn't that good. It's a middle-of the-pack shooter. Not terrible but not very good either.

And my point is that the "good" part includes the Terminator setting - you can't take that out of the game, it is a big part of why it is good and it isn't just some paint job - the game is steeped in it.

Also even ignoring Terminator, i think you're being a bit unfair to Resistance - there aren't really that many games that provide what it does to call it "middle of the pack".

If you were to ignore the Terminator part, it wouldn't even be middle of the pack. Objectively, it's below average in most aspects.

I'm glad you like it, but you sound like you're trying really hard to convince yourself that it's better than it actually is.

This is promising, especially if it's as harsh as the OG movies and not the mediocre remake. Extra points if upon launch SJWs complain that shooting perps is attacking people in dis-favorable circumstances or stuff like that.

If you were to ignore the Terminator part

Yeah but you can say this about everything - if you ignore the good parts of a game, you're left with no good parts. That doesn't mean anything.

it wouldn't even be middle of the pack.

Middle of *what* pack? As i wrote previously "there aren't really that many games that provide what it does".

No really, even if you boil down the game to some rough approximation of a description for what it offers, how many games released the last decade do you know that combine an FPS with light RPG character progression where the game has you exploring levels for resources and side quests that often rely on your character's skills?

From a first brush against that thought you may be inclined to answer "A LOT" but really if you start putting down names you'll end up with a very small number of highly hyped games (which is probably why it sounds like a lot of games... it isn't the games that are many but the number of times you've heard about them), like... Fallout 4? Dying Light? The Outer Worlds? The new Deus Ex games? Anything else?

And really those apply only if you ignore how the world is set up since aside from DXHR they use an open world setup. In practice you'd have to go way back to find something actually closer (DXHR is the closest i can think of made the last decade and it is really practically a decade old now). I do not think it was a consequence that many people saw Terminator: Resistance like a modern version of Terminator: Future Shock - and not only because of the name, the game has a lot of similarities with the Future Shock games (and when looked from that lens it is only an improvement, IMO - yes, yes, it is an improvement over a 25+ year old game, but for how many modern games can you really say that?).

Though FWIW i'll admit that my memory is failing me and i just can't come up with similar games right now. If you know of any (that isn't just FPS with RPG and forgetting the rest i wrote - i do not mean Far Cry :-P) please tell since i do enjoy these games.

I'm glad you like it, but you sound like you're trying really hard to convince yourself that it's better than it actually is.

I do not really need to convince myself of anything really, i played the game and had fun with it and that is all that matters :-P.

I'm just trying to explain why i do not think you can take out the Terminator from Terminator: Resistance (and also why i do not think that there are really that many games like it, but that is a secondary thing).

I think Robocop is a pretty hard IP to use. The movie worked on both a surface layer where you're enjoying watching the cop blow the shit out of drug dealers but there's also some legit social commentary. It could very easily become either bland vigilante murder porn or cucked commie whining if it doesn't get that balance exactly right.

It should be made illegal for the sissy game developers of today to make games out of movies from the manly era. Reason being that they will always fail at the task.

I was following up on what you said. "Also even ignoring Terminator". No, it's not a good game if you were to ignore that. Not at all.

You're injecting a lot of semantics there, but I can make this simple. As far as shooters go, it's a middle of the pack game. Graphics, animations, voiceovers, overall production values, etc, are all mediocre to average by today's standards. There's really no getting around that. The only thing it has going for it is the setting.

You're reacting as if "middle of the pack" is some kind of huge insult. As if I'm I'm saying it's terrible or something. I'm just saying the game is pretty average.

I'm glad you like it, but you sound like you're trying really hard to convince yourself that it's better than it actually is.

Who's trying to take the Terminator out of it? It's an average game even with the IP. If it weren't for the IP it would be garbage. As is, it only garnered an average review score of 60 from critics. Even from users, most of which are naturally going to be Terminator fans, it has an average score of 8/10. While that's certainly better than the critics score, it doesn't exactly scream great game. That's using the PC version which has the highest combined scores. The console versions scored lower.

1. It's an AA game that released for $40.00 so I do not know why you are trying to compare the graphics and production values to AAA studios. The fact that you are making that comparison is a testament to the great job the small dev team did with a limited budget. Unless you are a total graphics whore, the graphics are actually fine, the voice acting is cheesy but fine, the animation is fine. The story is interesting enough and much better than any Terminator movie after Judgement day. It also has more choice and consequence than the majority of AAA games. The game accomplished exactly what it set out to do, which is to be an enjoyable romp through the Terminator 1/2 universe with solid action and enjoyable character progression.

2. Citing IGN or other corporate reviews is irrelevant at this point since the game released with a lot of bugs and problems with AI which severely hampered it's initial review scores. The developers stuck with it, added new AI patches as well as bug fixes, and the game is far more polished now than on release. In addition, high quality free DLC has been released which really no one expected.

It's a good game for what it is and developed by an up and coming & promising non-SJW dev team. Any casual or hardcore fan of terminator (obviously the intended audience and yes - the setting is a huge appeal of the game so it's stupid to try and remove that from what makes it good) would enjoy it if they like first person shooters with some RPG mechanics. It's incline in a world of mostly terrible licensed movie games.

You're just dug in now, your ego is attached to your previous comments, and at this point you are just making and making weaker and weaker arguments. It's a good game and it's by far the best Terminator game that has released for at least the last 20 years (I would argue it's the best Terminator game ever made, but that is not actually saying much considering the only other contender is probably Future Shock.)

This nigga thinks we're living in the age of OG Doom and Quake and not the age of shitty looter shooters, CoD Madden releases and D00MSLAYER INTERNAL.

Can someone explain what wasn't terrible about the terminator game? I saw some gameplay footage and it looked awful: slow movement, braindead bulletsponge enemies, no regen health but enough medkits to have infinite healing, no interesting level design, xray vision....
People are saying this is average but to me it looks like "average" in comparison to random console shooters from 2005.

Well, FWIW i wouldn't disagree with that - the game is a budget "AA" game after all, it certainly wont be up to the modern AAA+ standards (though even modern "average" is a very high mark when it comes to production values really, but i guess that is subjective - personally i started seeing diminishing returns after Half-Life 2's HDR update or somewhere that time, so i don't mind that).

However i think we're talking about different things because i wasn't referring to graphics, animations, VO, etc, but to the gameplay, level design, mechanics and overall "feel" of the game - which to me are way more important than how many pixels a texture has or how smooth some NPC's nasal bridge looks. Sure, visual fidelity in general does help to build an atmosphere, but IMO Resistance's fidelity is perfectly up to the task (and even beyond that) of establishing its atmosphere.

Critics didn't like it for some reason, i see it as a similar case with Mad Max or something that for some reason critics panned the reviews but the game was well liked. I do not pay much attention to critics though (at least those Metacritic cares about) - the critics that i pay attention to liked it.

Though IMO 8/10 is a great score, it isn't masterpiece level (10/10) but nobody claimed that the game is flawless anyway.

Nice projection there, but nowhere did I compare it to any AAA games.

I don't have a problem with you thinking those aspects are "fine", but I found them below average, and that's without pointing to the creme of the crop.

Transalation = "I'm a butthurt fanboy who can't handle valid criticism of a game I like, so now I'm going to project that your argument is weak."

The gameplay and level design don't really stand out either. Both of those aspects are pretty basic, and I think they're average compared to most shooters.

Despite that, I agree that it had decent atmosphere, and if you go to the Terminator: Resistance thread, you'll see that I praised the game for that when I was playing it last summer.

I wonder if they will be loyal to the first movie and depict "Old Detroit" with the city/skyline of Dallas, TX.

If they're real chads they'll use Houston like Robocop 2 did.

From the trailer, however, it's clear they're making a sequel to the third movie where Robocop had a jetpack and was best friends with a cute little hacker girl who is the real hero of the story. So baysed.

8 hour drug factory campaign, let's go!

Also, it needs to be gory like SoF. Even your 9mm handgun should blow up torso's.
