Outside of 2022, there was basically no difference by year. Well technically a very slight descent. Older players on average liked it more, but not by an enormous amount.
Mind you only ~300 people voted so don't try too hard to draw inferences from the data.

Sure the sample size is quite small and it has no demographic weighting or anything. 350 is actually a semi-viable sample size in general but less so for crosstabs.

Still more voters than trash like the Game Awards.

I think it shows once and for all that the site's current policy for new users should be inverted. New users should be confined to General Discussion, and they should only be able to post in the gaming sections after two years (double the current limit to ensure that as many of them pass puberty as possible) and an extensive exam to prove they actually play games. They should have to personally stream Fallout while DarkUnderlord watches or something.

At least JA3 might get a minor popularity boost from the two other sites worldwide who'll report on these results, it's a good game.

Taking a glance at the top 10 I think only Caves of Lore kinda came out of nowhere. Looking at the graph there's also quite the remove when it comes to first five positions.

Jagged Alliance 3
Baldur's Gate III
Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
Caves of Lore
Underrail: Heavy Duty
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Space Wreck
Solasta: Crown of the Magister - Palace of Ice
Lies of P

Space Wreck being so low is criminal

Lies of P shouldn't even be on the list, not an RPG

Colony Ship is meh, but I'm glad it's ranked above Cuck Trader

Also JA3 beating BG3 is a positive surprise

Interested in this but I'm too retarded to understand graphs. It's showing that BG3 was votebombed by people who joined in like 2022/2023, and that people who joined earlier were generally more likely to vote it 4 or 5?
If anything, the game had more people giving it 3 or 4.

The number of average votes per voter is 25,5. Its pretty clear that barely anyone here plays that many games and that most of the votes are by retards with second hand opinions. The list with the individual user votes is somewhat useful, its just a shame that many users that actually play games are missing.
Playing 100+ games a year is an absurd expectation, let alone playing 100+ RPGs. Plus most people don't just exclusively play new releases. So it shouldn't be a surprised there's "only" 25.5 votes per voter (I guarantee you the average player has not even finished 25 2023 releases, not even close).
You misunderstood me. I absolutely don't think or expect that people play 100 games, I meant exactly the opposite. The 25,5 is surprisingly high. That would mean that the average voter has finished a rpg from this year every two weeks on average. I don't doubt that there are a few people here who may manage that many games or even more, but I find it unlikely for an average, based on my general impression of forum activity.

RPG Watch may be known for low standards, but they are aggregating news 10x better than Shillfinintron

You mean was, or did someone actually revive it since it died a few years back?

EDIT: lol, never saw the thread was updated with the change of management. Guess we're all one happy dysfunctional family now.

RPGwatch has always been the traditional destination for the banned, prosperized, and I am leaving forever types to spend their days crying about the codex.

First things first, anyone with more than 50% posts in the politics subforum, should be confined to it, and I'm not joking.

Your votes prove you are a shill for AAA slop, played 12 games yet somehow missed one of the actual good indie RPGs released this year. Also, Starfield at 3 lol You are nowhere near my level

So, the enemies of bear sex managed to stop the seemingly inevitable. Interesting. Seems like downvoting proved to be an effective strategy. Hence we'll see more of this in next year GOTY votings.

Too bad Phantom Liberty (a legitimate expansion that provided a redemption arc to Cyberpunk 2077) dropped below Underrail Heavy Duty, a glorified equipment DLC.

Not too happy about Heads Will Roll: Reforged spot, but I guess it was too obscure for most Codexers.
The real value is the discussion we had along the way
