Sad by how far I have to scroll to find any Legacy of Kain entries.
Just barely broke the top 200...

Don't they have performance issues on PC compared to the 5th gen consoles? IIRC you clip into walls on accident and stuff.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In I helped put crap in Monomyth
Not a single Civilization game in the Top-5? Not even in the Top-10?!?!!
Decline of declines... Everything is Decline!!!

No wonder God has sent this chinese plague upon us. Humanity has indeed become decadent.
(still good to know that Gollop's X-Com is on the T5, though. There's still some hope left in the world)

What is clear in this list is how we missed the late 90s with so many genres and game mechanics at almost the top of their refinement. Then, decline arrived with the XXI century.

Bloody shame that Dwarf Fortress isn't in the top 10, but not surprising considering "some" of us have odd taste (Planescape: Purple Prose rated above the preeminence of Fallout - an indelible blot upon our webzone).

Nonetheless, thanks for taking the time to construct the list, Felipepepe et al.

Yes, congratulations felipepepe for the initiative and the work and thanks Lady Error for the help. These things make the Codex so special.

felipepepe there's an inconsistency with the votes regarding Life is Cringe. It says there was 5 votes, but you only counted 4:

I'm so happy to see Academy > Outcast, it really is the superior game. Kyle is great, don't get me wrong.
Outcast is overrated as fuck. For most part, it's just a mediocre shooter with lackluster gunplay ( the same problem that rtcw has). It picks up when you get the saber, but it is so far into the game that at that point I just lose interest. While Dark Forces 2 is a much, much better starwars fps, Jedi Academy is an obvious choice for anyone seeking lightsaber porn.

I'd guess they're not as popular with PC focused gamers? I admit I only played the first one.
Maybe...
They might just be highly rated by fans but forgotten / overlooked in general.
Plus Blood Omen is still abandonware, which probably doesn't help.

I really expected Heroes 3 to be in the TOP3, and most probably in first place, but I have to say that I was a bit surprised with Thief 1 and 2 following so strongly right after. Don't get me wrong, they are both great games, but I think I underestimated how much Codex enjoys its stealth games.

But I found a solid list, overall. Nothing too shocking.

The Codex enjoys Thief, period. The two games simply encompass everything that games can be and what they should strive for. If aliens came to earth and wanted to know what computer games are, I'd tell them to play Thief (and maybe Civilization).

BTW, if you are looking for something NEW to play, there's the top games of the past 5 years:

There is nothing to play except Stardew Valley, and Shadow Tactics: BotS, aside from Pathologic 2 on which I have no opinion, and maybe SOMA.

How come System Shock is on the list, then? I haven't played it yet, but I can't imagine it's any more of a FPS and any less of a RPG than SS2 or DX.

It's linear, and has no choices.

You should try the remake demo, it's cool, short, free and gives a perfect feel of the game.

I suggest to try original, otherwise it will be like in that anecdote - Two friends are talking. “Here everyone says:“ Caruso! Caruso! "And I listened - so nothing special" - "Have you heard Caruso ?! " - "No. Rabinovich sang to me ".

I got to wonder how Half Life 2 got so high.

So high? I got to wander how it got there AT ALL. It's one of the worst games ever, total failure, no jokes. When I played it I noticed how they copypasted game's sections to literally stretch out the game proccess, the point where you driving some baggi on some serpantine and there was some kind of spherical thing, bomb or something, my patience was exhausted and I abandoned this copypasted hell.
To the trash you go.

I have same doubts about presence Civ 3 and 4, GTA, Portals, Dishonored 1-2, Hollow Knight (why not incude Golden Axe then!11), CS, Firaxis's bulshit "XCOM", Rimworld, Hotline Miamim Return to Caste Wolfenstain, LIFE IS FUCKING STRNGE LOL, Bioshock that is completely derivative? Anyway, past 100 list makes little sense.

I think I underestimated how much Codex enjoys its stealth games

Not just stealth games - it's stealth TTLG games! these one of my favorites, and share first places with PS:T for me.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
I am ecstatic over the results. Four out of my five '5 points'-votes are in the top 7, and the fifth one made it into the top 50. Things don't look so good for my '3 points' and '1 point'-picks, but overall I gave points to every game in the top seven spots.

And I am doubly joyed that the Thief games only had to bow down to one game, the game that I described as: "The game that enslaved a generation of Slavs. It has ruined lives, futures, careers and opportunities. It has also withstood the test of time and the Russian winter. The lifeblood of GOG, and a true challenger to vodka!" I consider the result of this poll as proof of my words.

I fucking hate it. THere was time we played ONLY IT for months. FOR MONTHS CARL! and those months lasted FOR YEARS CARL!
After that I never felt desire to play it, only played HoTA recently with same folk with whom I played HoMM3 back then just to have opportunity to converse with them.
