The game is being developed because the Russian government requested a "patriotic game" about a current political event (opposition with Poland and Ukraine) and gave money to develop it. Moreover, history is obviously political.
And Atomic hearts was developed because nuclear corporations wanted to promote...nukes.
And Blasphemous was developed because it was sponsored by Vatican to promote catholic vibes.
And Baldur's Gate 3 have been psonsored by 20-side dices international manufacturing lobby.

What? The game exists because the Institute for Internet Development, a government organisation, gave them money to develop a patriotic project shortly after the invasion started.

23 May 2022, 17:20

A Novosibirsk company will receive 260 million roubles to develop the patriotic game "Smuta"
It will be the studio's first independent project: previously Cyberya Limited was engaged in custom development for foreign partners

The Institute for Internet Development has allocated 260 million roubles to Cyberia Limited, a Siberian company, to develop a computer game in the RPG genre called Smuta, Kommersant reported. The grant will be used to develop a patriotic video game set in Russia during the Troubles
https://ngs.ru/text/economics/2022/05/23/71351696/

The idea to create the institute was put forward by Sergei Plugotarenko, director of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC), which unites Russia's major Internet companies, and Sergei Grebennikov, director of the Regional Public Centre for Internet Technologies (ROCIT), whose stated mission is to develop Internet technologies among citizens. Other co-founders were entrepreneur German Klimenko, as well as the Internet Initiatives Development Fund, which was created at the initiative of Vladimir Putin and invests in startups at the expense of private investors, and the Media and Communications Union, which represents the interests of telecom companies[1].

Vyacheslav Volodin, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, was also indirectly involved in the creation of IRI, with whom Plugotarenko and Grebennikov agreed at the Russian Interactive Week (RIW) conference on 12 November 2014 to create IRI as an organisation advising the authorities on Internet issues[1].

The organisation was launched in April 2015, with Klimenko as its director. The organisation was engaged in the development of Internet development roadmaps dedicated to the Internetisation of various sectors of the economy (for example, the creation of electronic medical records) and created on the basis of expert proposals[1]. In late 2015, IRI presented Putin with a long-term internet development programme and eight roadmaps; they were not established, but Putin invited Klimenko to become his advisor on internet development[2].
A joint investigation by Meduza and Important Stories notes that after Russia's attack on Ukraine, the IRI has been funding propaganda projects under the guise of "patriotic" Internet content, for which several billion roubles have been allocated. Thus, according to the results of a competitive selection for the creation of "national content", 10 billion rubles were shared among 163 projects, including: "Gone, how are you there?", "Ramzan. Akhmat - Power of Russia", "Women Z", "Made for the front" and other projects. It is also noted that from 2022 IRI is forbidden to work with "foreign agents", to touch upon the anti-war narrative or to criticise the authorities in Russia in any way.

In 2021, the IRI established the National Internet Content Awards, after the Russian invasion, the award winners were war correspondents and propagandists: Alexander Malkevich, Semyon Pegov, Alexander Kots, Dmitry Steshin, Evgeny Poddubny, Vladlen Tatarsky, Shaman, blogger Stas Ai Kak Just and others[11][10].

In 2022, according to Alexei Goreslavsky's personal statement, the IRI supported about 100 projects related to support of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the cost of which amounted to more than 3 billion rubles[12][13].

Drat, info about this game was hard to find. I checked the forum back when this project began, but from what I've skimmed, I dunno if it will ever be finished (I also skipped all of the drama it seems). Shame, the setting sounded good.

Looks like it won't happen :D

Smuta game project received financial support of half a billion rubles from the Russian Internet Development Institute
Smuta was intended to ridicule Poles and present them as the torturers of the Russian nation, talking about the times of great sadness in Russia, i.e. a deep political and economic crisis.
Despite receiving huge funds, developers are facing the failure of the project, the premiere of which still remains in doubt, even though it is scheduled for February 26

"Smuta. Don't pre-order! Here's why." "Smuta worries me." "Smuta. Our response to The Witcher has failed." "Smuta. Pre-orders are canceled," shout Russian gaming YouTubers. Smuta was supposed to be a project that would mock Poles, ridicule them and show them as "tormentors of the Russian nation". However, it seems that everything is heading in the wrong direction, and there is still a month left until the premiere.

However, millions of rubles did not prevent mishaps. Trailers, materials from Smuta, and even its early version shown by YouTubers were leaked onto the Internet. The release date was also postponed. It was finally set for February 26. However, the plan of how the creators would want to reach players from outside Russia with their title was still questionable. In theory, sanctions did not allow this.

However, Cyberia Nova studio found a way. The developers came up with the idea that Smuta would be available on the VK Play platform and foreigners could also buy it. There is one condition: anyone who wants to buy the million-dollar production must have an account in a Russian bank. In this way, they in a sense circumvented the sanctions. Sadness, although the Russian authorities have spent millions on it, does not cost a fortune. Its current price is EUR 20.15, or less than PLN 90.

Some were even tempted to buy this title. However, its future remains uncertain. According to YouTubers from the East, the creators are reportedly canceling pre-release orders and it is not known what will happen next with the project mocking Poles. On the official website, the last article is from November 13, and on Smuta's VK profile, the last entry is dated January 6. Cyberia Nova is silent, and the alleged premiere is in a month. Can this work?

@Infinitron, this thread is a lost cause. I'm moving it back to Politics where it obviously belongs.
Needs a vaporware tag too.

Was this ever even a real game? It looks like a Skyrim mod.
The game is set to be released on April 4th 2024 according to wikipedia.
The player has to fight not only with the Poles, but also with wolves, robbers, extortionists, shishami and mercenary units. In addition, conflicts will arise with representatives of other Russian factions, however, it will be possible to agree with them and resolve the dispute peacefully, convincing them not to fight[6]. The game has the following characters: robber, peasant, prince and scomoroch[7]. As a frying pan, you can throw propellant bombs at opponents[8]. During the campaign, the player will be able to measure his strength and military experience with various noble and not only characters, for example, with the voivodship Grigory.[5]
January 29, 2024 the release date of the game was postponed from February 26, 2024 to April 4 of the same year.[25]
So it has a release date, thus not vaporwave, you can remove the tag King Crispy.

if you seriously believe this is a real game and not a scam, I've got a Crimean Bridge to sell you. In almost perfect condition!
Unlike your perma-butthurt self, it is announced to be finished on a certain date.

I have to warn you though, there are already many prospective buyers for the Bridge and surprisingly, they're all French!

How was this even supposed to be a ridicule? "Let's make a game showing how we are still so afraid of the powerful Polaks bullying us, this will show them, haha, they will never recover from this." ???? I'd bet government pulled the plug, after realizing they accidentally funded the opposite of the message they normally try to spread. Devs are probably going to gulag as we speak.

While Smuta is not my cup of tea - I really want "Ramzan. Akhmat - Power of Russia".

Maybe it's not too late to save the project through some form of Kickstarter ? I even have some ideas for high tier supporter rewards:
