So this donation business they've kept up after the finish of the Kickstarter is ridiculous. They are still racking in a steady stream of funds. At the finish of their crowdfunding campaign they had $6.2 mil. It's now at 7.1 mil and counting.

Chris Roberts is about to make you his bitch.

P.S.: It's not an MMO faggots.

7.1 million USD?

:what:

So Blaine, when is this going to be released? Are there going to be katanas in it? If not, can you pass on the suggestion, I think katanas would improve this game a lot. Also, can you use diplomacy to avoid combat? Is it possible finish the game without entering combat at all? Furthermore, what do you think about Jews? Are there Jews in space?

Grab the Codex by the pussy
Haba: Having played EVE for six years, I can confirm that there are Jews in space.

Your trolling attempts are pitiful, and at this point I'm not too fussed about Codexians disliking Star Citizen. The Codex is filled with people who slurp up rehashed generic fantasy garbage year after year, circle-jerk over AAA console popamole RPGs for a few weeks until they get tired of them and pretend they never stopped hating them, and dislike multiplayer games because interacting with human beings and/or meeting a greater challenge than bad AI scripts is too much for them to handle. I enjoy cRPGs as well and have been playing them for over two decades, but I've been playing space sims just as long. I've also been playing arena shooters for years; I enjoy twitch games with high skill ceilings in which you fight other humans, and I love space sims. No amount of neckbeard tomfoolery can dampen my enthusiasm.

In the meantime, I have these to drool over, while your beloved Project: Eternity helmed by a vegan male feminist is outputting concept art that looks like it was shat from the bowels of DeviantART:

Oh gee. Wings. On a space fighter. DeviantART quality engineering confirmed :smug:

I agree, only a DeviantART quality engineer could come up with the space fighter concept. Dogfighting in space at short distances where you see the other guy? Absolutely retarded, actual space combat would be closer to submarine warfare. Whoever would detected the other guy first from hundreds of thousands or more kilometers, and shot him with a laser or near relativistic mass driver would win. Small vessels that can't really get from planet to planet make no sense in space warfare.

Or we can accept that space fighter sims are really about reenacting WW2 dogfighting (the pacific theater kind with carriers and other large vessels in the background in particular) in space with futuristic weapons and maybe some mechanics showing that yes, you are indeed in fucking space not in the atmosphere. Because frankly wings on a space fighter are as retarded as: firing missiles (from really short ranges at that) against other space fighters, firing any weapon with projectiles traveling way below relativistic speeds, afterburners after using which you decelerate (damn that space drag!), decelerating, effective stealth cloaks on anything that actually is using it's engine or changing your flight trajectory without using RCS thrusters (unless it uses UFO-like antigravity).

That one Legend of Galactic Heroes game is probably the most realistic portrayal of space combat. Large fleets fire missiles from a great distance, flanking from even greater distance. Though even that isn't too realistic (sensor detection ranges are rather depressingly large, after all)

Depends on the range and what you use to detect. If you have passive sensors you're limited by the speed of light unless you detect tachyons or some superluminal phenomenon that a warship makes. However the smart way to attack (even if you have FTL jump drives or whatever, unless you can jump on top of the guy) would be to get on a trajectory towards your target as far away from it as possible. You accelerate at something like an AU or more from the target, preferably hiding the heat by burning engines behind a celestial body and just surf with all engines off until you reach the target. Only way to detect the ship would be to actually spot it, which would probably happen minutes before the attack itself at best.

Although one could as what is the point of flanking in space? Ships would ideally either be able to turn around fast (not so realistic as it requires UFO-like gravity manipulation) or just have evenly spaced out weaponry as the enemy could be pretty much anywhere around it and time would be vital.

The key issue with a realistic version of space warfare is that it depends on effective accurate range of weaponry. You can fire a laser or mass driver towards the other side of the galaxy, there's nothing really stopping you from that if the line of sight is clear. So it boils down to how far can you spot a target and how fast does the projectile/beam travel compared to the speed of the target. You need to hit them before they veer even slightly of their current trajectory. So you need to know where they are moving, you also need to account for the size of the target, the distance to the target and gravitational forces affecting the trajectory of whatever you fire (even light gets bended by gravity). You're essentially dealing with lots of digits after the decimal point as the precision required is enormous. The time to react to enemy fire would probably be so low that the ship would *never* be able to turn around so equal distribution of weaponry/armor/defenses on the whole surface area of the ship would be mandatory. That in turn would make "classical" flanking meaningless, stealth like in submarine warfare would be key.

Who gives a shit about reality? If you want reality go outside, games don't have to be realistic.

Agreed, except for the games that need to be realistic.

Chris Roberts: "PC will still trump Next-Gen consoles"

"I think consoles will be there and they'll do decent business but I don't think that the next generation of consoles will be as big as the last generation," said Roberts.
"Essentially, I can build a high-end PC now that's much more powerful than the new consoles that will be announced this year."

Man speaks sense. Man makes money.

Can´t wait for them to announce a next-gen console port... because the pc market is not what they expected it to be revenue wise.

When hasn't this been the case?

I'm not sure, but multicore processors for mainstream weren't available in 2005 yet? The first Core 2 Duo was released in 2006 I think.
