My problem so far is not so much with the gimballing thingies, which can be properly balanced along the line, but with the control-set, it's retarded to use mouse both for piloting AND gimbal-control.
I've never had a "proper" joystick so I always played flying games (both planes and pew-pew) only with my keyboard, so using the mouse to fly the shit is unbereable.

FOR ME, the ideal would be, as I said, to be able to fly the ship with the KB and use the mouse for shooting nerfed turrets. Now it's pretty much instant, point-click-pew, perhaps a small delay, as the guns "realign" or whatever could balance it a bit, plus making gimballed turrets a little weaker would make them useful to use to "plink!" your foe's shield/armor until you have missile lock, which should be the heavy-punchers.
Other than that, I'd like to see more work done on movement feedback, since once you achieve certain speed it's really hard to get a quick read of your acceleration.

I'm still patient though, this is just the first iteration of the flying alpha, I'd like to see a couple more revisions to be able to "plot" the direction they are going, what they say or don't, I don't give a shit, the only thing that matters is what they code in the game. So I'll wait.

And yes, the Banu vessel is freaking slick.

So I tried this out. The "max" speed is both disappointingly slow and reached far too quickly and having afterburners to go over "max" speed is strange for what they claim to be Newtonian flight.

Yes, in my opinion they ought to double max speed and slash maneuverability by one-third, in addition to deleting gimbaled weapons for fighter-sized craft.

Can I ask what purpose the gimbaled weapons serve?

I mean it's obvious from a realism standpoint, but what do they add to the game? Would there be any reason to not want gimbaled weapons?

What purpose they serve...? They sacrifice sheer firepower for tracking ability. Gimbaled weapons tend to be one class "smaller" than fixed weapons. Also, it seems that currently all weapons on fighter-sized craft (which are the only ones currently playable) are gimbaled.

The problem is that they track near-instantly across the vast majority of a pilot's viewscreen and are aimed in tandem with using the mouse to steer the ship in simplified flight-assist, making the arcade-y and lowering the skill ceiling dramatically.

Roberts stated (in more ways than one, though this is the most easily understood) that on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being most arcadey and 10 being most hardcore, Star Citizen would be about a 5. Currently, it's a 3 at best ...

Did you not wonder that because he specified the exact mid-point that he was avoiding being properly specific? Y'know, sounding like a design element/goal was fixed in place while in actual fact being non-commital? If ever I see a question asked, A or B?, and the answerer says halfway between A and B, I suspect they are ducking the question, perhaps because they do not yet know the answer, on perhaps because answering either A or B would lose those who'd support the other option.

4chan using their browser developer's consoles to make spoof forum polls:

Though, apparently a measure of incline has shown itself due to some recent controls changes:

So now that this game is turning out to be the disaster that I predicted it to be, maybe you naive kids will try an actual "space sim"?

It's surprisingly fun.

Ah yes, the same Orbiter screenshot you posted nine months ago, covered in JPEG artifacts because you pulled it off the Internet somewhere—clearly, you're having lots of fun playing it, and haven't simply fixated on it as the most realistic simulator in order to fuel your constant shitposting in the SC and ED threads.

You have the most peculiar axe to grind.

And what game this screen is from? Links or GTFO. This game was not my cup of tea from the start vast and hostile space beyound the stars is not air and space ships should be more like warships than aircraft; heavily shielded and armed behemots stilized after either Galleons or Pre Dreadnaughts and not this space car for every space Kwan bullshit.

Being a "normal" game without pay to win, MMO time sink mechanisms and shitty social media features is a huge plus, but an actual space sim is a completely different thing than a dogfighting "space sim". The talk about realism and how space combat* should really look like is pointless in this context.

*there's no combat in Orbiter, right? (I havent played it)

IMHO games like this one an elite should never have been called space "sims" in the first place, since they're hardly simulating anything.

Holy shit that is the stupidest goddamn "space" ship design I have ever seen in my entire life, bar none. I would pilot a Kaiten before I took that thing into combat.
