Black The Fall

Very good mix of a platform and puzzle game. For most of the time we use a special laser pointer that can be used to do many things, such as moving elevator, opening doors. Plus the usual levers and handles as well. The difficulty is really well balanced and for most of the time after a couple of tries most people shouldn't have big problems. And even if we die, the autosaves are so frequent that it doesn't hurt so much. What is interesting, is that the developers used 2.5D mechanics in some instances. My first example is good old Pandemonium duology. Even if you aren't familiar with it, adapting is really easy, and there are some riddles that are focusing on that aspect.

Nice, simple graphics with melancholic music and at the end my suspicions regarding the plot were actually true. I liked the reference from Another World, and the small tribute to Larian. Oh, and we meet a robot doggie during our journey who is really adorable :shittydog:. Thanks again Catacombs for the game.

I'm amazed about how much cruft we have in our computing stack. Though all that cruft makes the barrier of entry to programming much, much lower, so more people can write code. You end up with a text based game eating 4 cores and 8GB of ram though :D.

To be fair it's a neural net generated text adventure, so I knew it would be CPU heavy. But the devs "recommend" a cuda supported GPU with at least 12 GB memory for a comfortable perfomance

Nation of underground vampires interrupts WW1 to build an army of undead to retrieve the ancient mechascorpion to fight the army of demons threatening the earth? This game is a definition of over the top, but I like it

The Lieutenant has the best death animation. Not that it really shows in a screenshot.

Tried to vapourise the Overseer at the end, caused the game to freeze up.

No. No. You forgot the Demons of Hell. Because it's Vampires fighting Demons while WW1 German Scientist tries to Stop Demons by using Undead Hordes while your Protagonist is an American Chosen by the Vampires (or by the Demons). Also Dragons. Demon Dragons. Also Mechas.

It's so metal and dumb it gets awesome. The end levels reach Requiem Chevalier Vampire levels of "PUT IT IN WHO CARES IF IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE", and it's magnificent.

Man, I discovered that KOTOR is more linear than I remembered it.
Tatooine

So you need to find this Star Map in the middle of the desert - the only people who knew this is Sand People.
So off you go - you can either help them and get the info ... or slaughter them. And get the info from the captured Jawa slaves.

Not many options - but at least they have options.
Now we look at the Star Map cave and we have this:

KoAEJRN.jpg

A hunter is telling me to bait Banthas over so the Krayt Dragon gets lured outside into the awaiting minefield for easy kills.
At this point, I just wanted to challenge myself and try to fight it head-on, so in I go.

IATzvpy.jpg

It wakes as I approach.
And I instantly died.

Cutscene Game Over
So I thought - OK. Maybe the direct approach is denied - how about Stealth? Mission has maximum Stealth skill - let's give it a try - Nope.

Bioware: Just bait those Banthas, let the Dragon get killed by cutscene minefield OK?

HeyHb3Y.jpg

How very unsatisfying.

I wonder why the fuck can't we just throw a few detonators at it? The Krayt dragon has no ranged attack. It has to come out to deal with attackers. I know the hunter said 'blaster fire bounces off its hide' but what about lightsaber throw? What about force lightning? There are so many more options to consider. Such a lazy design.

This is practically the same situation in Kashykk - you HAVE to help Jolee or else the forcefield is impassable. Why? We have MAX Security skills. MAX Computer skills. These skills checks are pretty meaningless when you bring T3 along.

And fixing HK47 takes only one skill: Repair. Good luck having invested in that without prior meta-knowledge. Hell, it doesn't matter if T3 has maxed its Repair skill to 20 - you can't use T3 to help you fix HK47. Why not?

I could see the protagonist using Persuasion / Computer skill checks to convince HK to let T3 fix it, but Bioware thinks alternate solutions are unnecessary.

Underestimated the attack of the Men in Black faction. They used to only have human made pistols and rifles, but this time around they brought plasma weapon tech and laser tanks to the battle. After the smoke dispersed the casualty count came to 15 X-com soldiers dead and half the base demolished.

Taka-Haradin puolipeikko citation needed. And is it good?
Halfway. Pathway

It's tactics lite combined with FTL style resource management for exploration.
2-action system for combats, all weapons use ammo from same pool (except energy weapons that don't use ammo at all), 100% hit to change unless target is in cover and quite restrictive skill trees for character builds.
Game has nice presentation and systems (such as they are) work without being bullshit, but I don't see myself playing this in 1 months time.
Renowned Explorers does pretty much same, but better.

edit.
Fixed name of the game.
