your shit has big grey lines and is bent, hope that helps you fix it

SNES games displayed on LCD screens without any sort of CRT emulation shader look like vomit
yea but your shit has all kinds of weird artifacts so I was just letting you know as you didn't seem to notice because you posted screenshots of it

Most remasters are turds because they were lazily done or because they tried to change or add something to the game that wasn't necessary.
Wouldn't a remaster of two Max Payne games be superfluous in the the first place, mate? I don't see what they could improve without ruining the game. Higher resolution textures would not just mess with the original artistic vision but clash with the low poly models. The first game already underwent an art overhaul while being in development. When Remedy originally started building the game in 1996 it was conceived as cartoony, it was only later they changed to photorealism.

The final game is as good as it is ever going to look, with the exception of some graphical tweaks by amateurs to give it a correct widescreen FOV and making the sound work on modern Windows. If they upped the polycount of the models and introduced modern shaders the look of the game would also become lost and it would look like Max Payne 3 at best, that GTA remake at worst.

You are also ignoring that even a recent game like Alan Wake saw a so-called remaster that made the game look slightly worse.

To me the game holds up and doesn't need a remaster even if it would have been a good one.

The textures are detailed enough that you can make out a tiny viking ship on Payne's necklace. The graphic novel parts also hold up on 1080p, even in fullscreen.

I'm sure you could get some intern to run the source photos through a photoshop filter and add some much desired comic sans, up the contrast and make all surfaces oily and wet and maybe use an AI upscaler, but I just don't see the point of that. Just like I don't think the green filter and subsequent alterations improved The Matrix as a film. In fact, the early 00's experience of Max Payne is a big part of what makes it so good.

How is it? Most people say the first half is great but it turns to shit in the second half. Yay or nay?

I like the game but I would not call any of it 'great'. It has uncomplicated, Diablo-esque combat, nice art style and quests that (it seems to me) can be solved and conclude in several different ways. I took a break from it for a few months and recently picked up where I left off so I don't know how far into the game I am.

What are those mods? And how many of them?

FNV Realistic Wasteland Lighting for the sky.
Wasteland Flora and Terrain Overhaul trimmed down for the plants.

Pip-Boy 2000 Mk VI for the Pip-Boy, using the Wasteland Retexture.
My character's face is my own preset. The hair is from Mannequin Races. The outfit is a T6M replacer. Then the face and eyes textures are from zzjay. My New Vegas guide features everything non-tits and ass related.

Pity the game is so terrible, aside from the colorized digitized Elmore artwork. :negative:

Heroes of the Lance (1988), an action game base on the first Dragonlance adventure module.
Yes, the Elmore's artwork is the best part, at least it is in the Amiga version.
At least it is very short to complete.

Man, how great it would be to get a good modern game with Elmore illustrations (or from a similar artist at his level). One can only dream! Of course, images like these wouldn't go down well with a lot of people these days...

What an eyesore. I hate corporate art style.
That's not it, this is that fake Mexican or Mesoamerican cartoon style. I'm not sure what is its name or if it even has one, but Guacamelee games for example use the same style.

Is the game any good?
It's alright. It's late 90's russian eurojank. It's an RPG-RTS hybrid. You and the other heroes gain xp by using their skills in combat, find loot, etc. You can also recruit mercenary bands to help you during missions. Gold is used both to hire mercs as well as further train your heroes in town and buy equipment for them. You're supposed to juggle your resources among all three, though to be honest a good mercenary band is worth more than any +8947984 sword of doom that you can buy at the shop. The maps are mostly non-linear. The geography is distributed in such a way as to allow multiple ways to the end goal. But it's a good idea to explore the maps thoroughly as you will be able to find more gold, items and spell books, the latter being VERY expensive at the shop. The game looks very nice. The VA is so bad it's good. I think it's like $2 now on GOG so I'd say it's worth a try.
