Final Vendetta

A good SoR clone, but nothing amazing. The other two characters felt too blocky for me, and while Claire has less strenght, she feels best, when it comes to controlling her movement. Weapons also compared to older brawlers are underutilized and there aren't showing so much during the whole game. It probably takes 30 minutes to finish the whole thing, and just doesn't feel so satisfying. Still, the soundtrack is amazing, reminds me of some of my favourite tracks from Streets of Rage remake.

The armor design is fucking awesome. The only one who really doesn't fit is Mordred himself. Plus this is the maximum normal zoom which is sad, the game could have used a third person mode honestly.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this, and I almost congratulated you for posting a screenshot in the correct aspect ratio, using a period-authentic EGA shader, then I realised you're using my config + shader setup I gave you a few days ago :M
He he. And it does look and sound glorious. The intro music is a banger.

(Really need to get properly going with Zak McKracken though.)

Good:
- No gimmick shake controls. Press button to roll. It just works.
- More Kong buddies with different (useful) abilities. Cranky is my favorite. Bouncing off enemies to retain speed is hard to control but satisfying.
- Good level design with smart enemy placement and variety of gimmicks.
- Pretty looking environments.
- Soundtrack by David Wise.

Bad:
- Many of the optional puzzle pieces are hidden in bonus rooms where you have to collect all bananas in 30 seconds, just like in Returns. I don't get it. It's the same minigame recycled 100 times. Why didn't they take lessons from DKC2/3?
- Boring boss fights. They are all on rails, lasting about 3 minutes each, and half of the time is spent waiting until you get an opportunity to attack. Missed the opportunity? Add another minute of waiting.
- Little details and inconsistencies about the controls that become more annoying in hard mode. Examples: Some moving platforms add to your horizontal speed, some don't. Jump height is not affected. Occasionally, Cranky's cane fails to bounce off an enemy properly for no reason, which is almost always fatal. When turning around, DK needs a long time until he can roll again, but the input isn't buffered. Spam the roll button like a maniac or fall into a pit and die.

Overall, this game is a clear improvement over Returns.

7 "puzzle" maps, more or less. Some maps are devoid of combat. Others have a few surprises.
According to the txt, a normal player should be capable to exit each map. But if you want to get all kills and secrets, intimate knowledge of Doom physics and speedrun tech is required (SR50, glide, rocket jumps). And that seems about right. I was disappointed after I finished map 7 with only 9% kills, so I watched a playthrough to point me in the right direction. To get access to the fun part of the map, you have to find a series of secrets that end with two Achvile jumps. The entire map is basically secrets.
