Icewind Dale, especially Heart of Winter, is still the best looking cRPG in my opinion and I strive to achieve that graphic quality in my own stuff.


Playing the Battlefield 4 beta. While it does have its problems, it's always quite nice to hear this rambling deep sound when the towers pillars give in while you are standing inside or atop of it trying to get out there asap.

You using that restoration/repair mod that was rumored to fix a lot of stuff, Kalin? Not limited to the Symbionts actually use their spaceships and trying to spread and the AI indeed being able to research and build all possible stuff?

Yep, Emperor Wars all the way, same version we are using in the PBEM game. It is fairly stable, and only allows artillery/anti-air etc to be built in factories (and militia in palaces) so the AI doesn't swarm everything with fodder like before. The new tech tree takes longer to research, and the new units are quite nice, even featuring some lovely graphics from the source books.

Symbiots do indeed invade, and in this game they have even landed on Bannockburn and Shaprut. Problem is that they only invade with a few ships each time, so aside from capturing a city or two they don't tend to accomplish all that much. Still, it is nice for flavour, and I suppose it is actually fairly consistent with the lore. Of course, I have yet to see how they perform if the player attempts to invade Chernobog. I believe I will try it once I have a bigger navy.

Speaking of ships, one problem with the mod is that the AI factions are obsessed with hiring charioteer transports which only cost upkeep. I am not entirely sure, but I suspect it keeps them from building other ships, and assuming the AI has similar support rules, they should pretty much bankrupt themselves. Space fighters in particular are very useful early on, they are quite cheap and you can get them reasonably fast. If you bring a noble along your fleet and have the battlemaster bonus, and perhaps stick in an artifact if you are lucky enough to score one that enhances combat performance, they actually perform surprisingly well against heavier fleets. It is a pity that the AI doesn't spam them once able to, it would make things more interesting for sure.

Still, great fun, and a vast improvement. If you are looking for a real challenge, however, you pretty much have to play against other humans, though I imagine that is true for most games out there.

(Not to say that it is easy, beating the Church and League takes time, but against the AI you are never in any real danger of being wiped out)

I don't watch jewtube circus of blabbermouthed dumbasses with a camera/microphone, so I don't know what the fuck some TotalBiscuit said.
But yeah, this game is about 2 bros. It's a pretty light adventure with little to no challenge, but has an interesting (and frustrating sometimes) control scheme. It's good only if you are too tired to think straight.

Variety of weapons - in theory, a good thing. In practice, it means you can exchange an assault rifle for a trident (that you have to get back once you throw it) and get stomped in the very next room, because it ended up between the legs of a NotCyberdemon, and he wouldn't fucking move away from it.
