Been wanting to play Powerslave/Exhumed (not the inferior native PC version but rather the superior console ones). I had downloaded PowerslaveEX back when it was released, but it kind of sat there for a couple of years. Now I'm getting back into it and my mouselook is fucked for some reason. Doesn't work - mouse is all jittery in game. Any thoughts? I'm playing with a gamepad but I really dislike playing FPS games with pads.

It's a pretty cool game, though.

shot003zcu6e.png

As I understand, Powerslave EX is based on the PSX version of the game, which has less open levels and generally feels more constricted. I've also played a bit of the Saturn version, but it's pretty clunky to control and pretty muddy to look at, even if the tech was pretty impressive for the console, the devs worked some magic for sure. This custom engine was even used for Saturn port of Quake that was later released. Amazing job. Here's a bonus screen of it running in Beetle Saturn. Playable, but in addition to the control issue, the framerate is pretty awful.

Exhumed is pretty easy and plays relatively fine with a gamepad, even with all the platforming in later levels.
Superb atmosphere, fitting music and sound effects, intricate level design, unique weapons and those artifacts you get which open-up paths to new levels make for a really great game.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
So me and a friend was playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands and came across this:

iMOMTJj.jpg

XpZoLf6.jpg

Jungle, skinned bodies hanging upside down in trees. Odd drum-like music playing in the background... where have I seen this before?

ytNfbsL.jpg

This thing looks a bit out of place. Could be that the drug-lords bought a UFO from Area 51 or something, they do seem to have a lot of cash and connections here.

ULicn8D.jpg

We found some strange glowing liquid on some plants. Tasted like liquorice. We decided to follow the liquid since it formed trail... like a BLOOD trail.

SupayvZ.jpg

Whatever we were following ripped the throat out of this UNIDAD soldier. Looks like he died in a lot of pain.

hh6WDK6.jpg

Time to investigate further. The heat sensor didn't pick anything up, but we kept hearing strange clicking sounds from the trees... and those god damn drums.

eW2eFbN.jpg

Suddenly we spotted something shimmering in front of us. We opened fire and it roared at us. Soon all hell was unleashed. I called in militia reinforcements as this would get real nasty quick.

Tl6F0EO.jpg

The fire fight lasted long into the night. The "thing" kept throwing spears at us and our militia was cut down by some kind of strange blue plasma. They stood no chance.

Vruh2IR.jpg

Eventually my friend got the beast down as I was dying... It got down to its knees and activated something... something that caused an incredible explosion that took out the remaining militia and my friend. (Yes, I'm speaking from the afterlife)

Seriously though. It was really well done and I wish the whole game was like this actually. It felt like we were being hunted in the jungle. The segment also had all the cool music from the movie which just add to the awesomeness. Man, what a thrill this mission was.

When you are doing your investigation there is only jungle sounds except these drums being played at random:

But when you reach the Predator this music starts:

It was magical.

Dialogue choices and great writing in metroidvania?

This looks more familiar...

Our heroine Robin sure gets caught a lot. This time she ends up inside the enemy camp:

Shriekers first appeared in the 3rd issue of TSR's short-lived magazine The Strategic Review (pre-dating The Dragon) and were then incorporated into both Advanced and non-Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.

G17pbW3.png

Purple Worms appeared in the original D&D brown booklets, though they were fearsome 15HD monstrosities capable of swallowing an adventurer whole.

sE8FzTX.png

"Swamp Slimes" seem to be a cross between the Roper (first appearing in the 2nd issue of The Strategic Review) and the Otyugh (introduced in the AD&D Monster Manual)

CS2YpJl.png

Couatls originate in Central American mythology but would be an unlikely choice for a dungeon monster if not for being introduced to D&D in Supplement III: Eldritch Wizardry.

G09DkX0.png

Beholders first appeared in Supplement I: Greyhawk, becoming an iconic D&D monster.

jPYkKV6.png

Rust Monsters also first appeared in Supplement I: Greyhawk, though the ones in Dungeon Master lack their feared rusting ability.

aYQY49N.png

Water Elementals appeared in the original D&D brown booklets...

2SdfR3L.png

...as did Fire Elementals.

ZuIwDrS.png

The "Demons" in Dungeon Master bear a suspicious resemblance to D&D's depiction of Demogorgon, introduced in Supplement III: Eldritch Wizardry, though with only one head rather than two.

PTzJ2GN.png

Dungeon Master also boasts a Dragon, Mummies, Ghosts, three kinds of giant insects, Skeletons, giant rats, etc., but these are common fantasy monsters not particular to D&D.

The minions are as always, making funny faces and never sad or tired. Just watching them making havoc all around is fun. After they find equipment from fallen enemies and barrels / chests the brown are the most reliable melee fighter who can take a lot of punch especially if we upgrade them. Plus there are wolfies/spiders/salamander mounts available for each group of minion later on which make them even better. But for now, I need to evacuate. Little evil overlord can't face the wrath of Empire.

Another new enemy, way more dangerous and bigger in numbers than pointy ears. Gnomes!

I'm way ahead of you Gnarl. The game has a quest where you need to kill 1000 of them for the Destruction ending.

I finished the beginning, time to see my new tower.

A Beautifully Desolate Campaign
After the different houses eventually decided to kill themselves instead of the greenskins and undead, the Brotherhood of Butthurt finally decided to step in to end this war once and for all.

ec22b43b5d.jpg

The hounds are charging, but get slaughtered quickly. Nestled in the center of the front, the Brotherhood stands firm while the Mercenaries that decided to pit themselves against our might stupidly charge ahead to get slaughtered. Their Sergeant is the first to fall. The strange mushrooms we plundered from a goblin-camp are hopefully going to come in handy.

bcdb71b51b.jpg

After the initial clash of meat and metal, our Brothers Leif, Heinrich and Reinhold were quick in dismantling the enemy shieldwall with their long-axes and greatswords. Even the famed helmet Heinrich was donning did not protect him from receiving a terrible blow to the head, striking him down. The enemy arbalesters were quickly taken apart by our own archers, but not before Brother Haribert took a bolt to the heart. But the centerfold was held, and our allied fources quickly flanked the enemy.
db7d0222b0.jpg

Only a few brave knights and the most resolute of soldiers are still standing, but it is only a matter of time before they will get completely surrounded.

253e4e8dca.jpg

With the last knight dying in the midst of corpses of his own men, it was the Brotherhood of Butthurt that won this fight, and the war. The fallen will be honored, and Heinrich will never do calculus again.

Except for the 300 armour helmet, the loot was shit.

It begins again.

I'm also playing this lately, for the first time. Tragic how it mixes interesting gameplay (my alcoholic gambler is caught up in the intrigue of four competing casinos) with bog-standard RPG'ing (walk through this dungeon scientific complex and kill 30 monsters).

Emperor Solarius sends his most trustworthy adviser. He is lucky today, because I'm going to kill his fat brother and claim my first waifu Kelda.

20180128121652_17jsjy.jpg

Success! Nordberg Town is mine. Depending on your approach you can enslave / kill all the villagers. Each decision has some pros and cons. I'm going for the total evil ending.

20180128151953_1alst0.jpg

The jungle, where I had to find out the green minions. There is no assistance from my brown guys so I need to be careful with those fluffy panda beats.

20180203120200_1b8s7b.jpg

After that I can use my new servants as a quiet back stabbing killers. Those heavy guys can kill them really quick if they aren't careful. There are some parts of the game, in which we are possessing one of the selected minions and command the squad since the overlord is too big to move through some obstacles.

20180203120503_157sab.jpg

Ah, Juno, a second waifu. She is a demanding lady, but repays you handsomely as well <wink>

20180203123735_14fs7v.jpg

Gah, what evil demons will do for a women.

Finally, the queen bitch is dead, that was a lot more difficult than the fat senator.

20180203160527_1g9sy7.jpg

Finally, I'm taking Juno with me while killing all the soldiers that left to defend the city.

20180203165003_1o4st5.jpg

Agent 47 would be proud of me. With my imperial guards I'm taking the catapults to enter the capital and kill the Emperor.

20180204113050_1pxsqv.jpg

As always plan isn't working as intended and I'm tossed into the arena. I don't need magic potions from Panoramix to set things straight.

20180204113323_1g5s09.jpg

Ah, horsies are back!

The last segment, where I dwell to find the Salamander Queen. Lots of pissed lady monsters in this game.

The last wife - Fay, which I corrupted to be obedient to me.

20180204141256_101s1h.jpg

Choices and Consequences - which means who will have the mounts (wolfs - brown, spiders - green, red - salamanders) in the final showdown. I have decided for Fay, since she was the most hard to get. Besides reds are really deadly now thanks to the ability to move quickly and fire at the same time without being hit.

20180204145715_13isd8.jpg

After some weapon and armor upgrades I'm ready. Last kiss on the cheek and off we go.

Total War: Rome

20180204180400_1wlsbm.jpg

My prestigious army is ready, the blues will be a great support since they can resurrect their colleagues.

[After many mini - battles]

Caesar, I mean Solarius turns intro one of the most beautiful monster made by an artist formerly known as Prosper. The greens have the best approach here, since there are spores showing on him which we need to destroy to weaken him up. The whole boss battle is divided and it's getting more difficult and deadly as one might suspect.

Still...

Been binging Lords of Waterdeep for the past 2 days. Game is cool but I wish the AI was just a little better. Case in point this epic game last night -

Lords of Waterdeep with the Undermountain expansion + long game, 5 players, all Cunning AI

Starting with Recruit Lieutenant on round 2...
low016.png

By round 6, I have the Suzail + Bloody Hand going, flipped Defending the Yawning Portal on round 8, gg.
low017.png

low018.png

Finished with 20 quests completed:
low019.png

293 points with... Trobriand.
low023.png

Trobriand ended up giving an insane 70 point bonus (14 X 5). As you can see, my completed missions averaged around 10.5 points.

Regarding New Vegas, you dont need to follow Benny through the desert.

Just turn on godmode ('tgm' on the console - push ~ key) and just walk past the deathclaws into the city.

Dont do the boring desert chase before that.

Especially dont do the mission where you help zombies fight invisible demons so they can fly to Mars.

Just head into Vegas, drink, gamble and get caught up in the intrigue between the four major casinos there.

You will need to show (not spend) 2000 bottle caps. Or buy a 500 bottlecap passport at Mick and Ralphs, just inside next to the Freeside east entrance.

Remember, its possible to avoid combat in Fallout, if youre a cheater.

I know we don't appreciate graphics whorism on the Codex, but visually the desert in New Vegas was prettty lacklustre.

Red Dead Redemption was better looking and more covincing. I don't want to pick beautiful vistas, it's not a fair comparison, so here's some very "normal" images:
