Still playing Age of Wonders. Some screens from the Cult of Storms campaign:

Entangle is another reason to love Earth Magic. Dominate is also a fun skill (especially in the campaign), that's how I got the Yetis.

Fucker spent all his mana before I attacked his city, have fun with the wraith.

Graphical artefacts at the top of the screen are due to a fan patch I had to apply.

Gameplay is a bit meh and dated, but this game has an absolutely mindblowing level design.
It was a bit too long though, so after finishing it I've never found the will to play through mysteries, despite trying it few times.

I don't think anybody ever did or at least I seem to recall people saying the game looked dated even at release.

I seem to recall reviews saying that NWN was tied for the best looking rpg ever with Morrowind, while saying IWD 2 which came out the same year looked very dated, especially compared to these two. Funny how that turned out.

Granted, reviewers are reviewers but this was even the stance of a local computer magazine's gaming section, who I'm sure were way too insignificant to get any boons from international game publishers. Besides praising the graphics as the (second?) best ever, their official review did slam NWN for the OC being mediocre.

At least that magazine wasn't full retard.
One I know (also insignificant to get bribes) not only praised the graphics, but also gave the game a 10/10.
Same magazine also said Dungeon Siege was what Diablo 2 should've been.

Wasn't around the internet much in those days to see what foreign magazines thought, and I don't care enough to check now, but I'd assume the general consensus was around those lines for NWN.
In those times any kind of 3D was like fucking magic. The lowest common denominator was all over it and game journalists are literally the embodiment of the LCD concept.
