Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
So for Demon of Hatred you need to constantly switch between jump and dodge/sprint. I'm still clumsy as fuck with the controller. How do you usually do this? Do you have your thumb placed over both the jump and dodge buttons and and then sort of rock it? Or do you move your thumb back and forth? The latter is my bane, can't do this fast enough.

Maybe I'll remap jump and dodge to RT and LT, just for this fight.

I just realized that if you stand below the Demon of Hatred when he jumps and deflect his stomp on the ground with the umbrella you'll release a huge nuke that takes off 90% of his HP bar and does huge posture damage.

You mean deflect or just block? So as he's falling I tap RB? Also do you need the upgraded anti-fire umbrella?

so is there magic in it? is it vancian like SarkS or Mp based like DeS ?
there is no magic in Sekiro, but there are prosthetic tools which are able to do different stuff like damage enemies from afar, set them on fire, etc.
All tools are using same ammunition (like bullets from Bloodborne).

The world's design is excellent. It has nothing to do with the retarded bonfires. It's a different topic.
it feels repetitive, third of the game is set in a samey looking snowy fortresses with snowy pagodas.

I'm curious to know which Shinobi Prosthetic Tools people have been using here. I haven't been using much outside of the shuriken (chargeable version); the only times I've used anything else are for purely situational ones like the firecracker against horse dude (Gyoubu Oniwa) and the axe for the shield dudes.

As far as progress goes, I've finally beaten Genichiro yesterday and was definitely a highlight for me despite trying 20-30+ times. Slowly but surely I feel like I've been getting a better handle on the combat, and started to enjoy this more. It's a rough start, and I do think the beginning is weaker because you're fighting enemies that can kill you in 2-3 hits, with limited health items and you're still fumbling your way around trying to get an idea for how to play the game before you reach mini-bosses. Wasn't until I got into a boss fight that wasn't able to kill me so quickly that I felt that I learned the combat mechanic's better. I still think the game is flawed, and can't see myself playing it more than once just yet, but I've warmed up to it a lot more since the beginning.

Axe with the skill that lets you combo it, it's worth trading blows if you manage to also double Ichimonji (from Ashina tree) afterwards. The upgrades are strong, sparking axe also sets enemies on fire.
Firecrackers for free hits, if it's otherwise hard to get an opening.
Using Flame Vent twice is very effective, breaks a lot of posture and burning enemies regen posture slower. Also seems to do a ton of damage on enemies with straw/fur thingies.
Finger Whistle (you get it later on from a boss) to break up tough enemies for stealth kills.

I think i used everything but fan and mist raven. Did not expect to fall in love with umbrella and short sword but they trivialize some hard fights. Shurikens, axe, spear and firecrackers are must have and are versatile as fuck. Whistle i abused for lulz

Sorry, it was 5am when i made that comment and i was half hammered. I thought it did posture and hp damage but I tested again and the fire umbrella only negates the damage, doesn't seem to do posture/hp damage. You can however use the upgraded whistle for stunlocks on the boss.

yo, real talk, how do you get to the reservoir when shit hits the fan?
IIRC, go to the antechamber idol (the one that you access via grappling on an open window in the roofs outside Kuro's room). From there, go to the big room next to the idol and jump down (be careful that there's two asshole ninjas down there). After this just explore and look around, I don't remember exactly the layout by heart.

I've never used the mist raven, not sure what's the point. The fan is a lot of fun. Not wanna fuck with some annoying basic mob? Just turn him around and backstab. Abusability limited tho due to emblems.

Yeah I'm testing it now and neither block nor parry do any damage.

You mean the Malcontent whistle? Apparently it needs "Malcontent's ring" but I'm at the demon and I haven't found it yet. Either it's a super late game thing, meant for NG+ or I have somehow missed it. Altho how is beyond me coz I've explored and killed everything.

God I absolutely loathe the Demon fight.

Correction - it's an absolutely amazing boss fight save for one tiny flaw. The incredible HP bloat on that thing. Usually it goes like this - I'm staying under him, hitting him constantly, dodging his stomps and jumps. I'm putting a solid damage into him for good five minutes. But then he does his incredibly poorly telegraphed charge and instagibs me (half of the time there's no way to dodge it coz bad spot). I look up and after all that work I've done he still has like 60 percent HP left. And he has 3 HP blips.

This is retarded Miyazaki. A fucking half hour fight? How completely stupid is it on NG7? Do you fight him for two days straight? Please go eat a bullet, it's the only cure for your autism.

Yeah the malcontent whistle. I forget who drops the ring exactly but its definitely a mini boss.

Have you tried poisoning him? A surprising number of bosses are vulnerable to poison.

And yeah I hated that fight as well. It's like they went "hey we have all these amazing sword fighting mechanics, what should we do?", then the cleaning lady went "Huge ass monster where all of the mechanics are irrelevant and makes the camera sperg out!" and everyone clapped in approval.

I haven't even finished the game, but I know I want to play the game again to master the system. Has to be very fun make a run performing elegantly in the fights.

Until now I'm betrayed all the time by my muscle memory from other Souls games and recent DMC5. Too much dodge and jumping, here you have to stand your ground and not push too many buttons.

The malcontent is dropped by the apparition that is now there after the 2 monkey fight. It's Ashina Depths>Poison Pool idol.
