Ah, yes, people shrugging off grenades going off right under their feet, exactly my type of tactical game. Also, ai generated voice overs.

Grenades in tactical games serve other purposes than grenades irl. On the real world, they are used to dislodge enemies from cover or tactical room clearance. In Tactical games they are damage tools primarily. If grenades would kill every enemy straight up I'd just carry 20 of them and be done with it. Very realistic, and very boring.

Imagine a tactical game where weapons are serious business that's easily fatal and where injuries are a serious concern. Teh horror. From teh deep.

Reminds me a bit of 7.62 High Calibre. The title confused me, SOF is already Soldier of Fortune.

Not feeling the art style tbh fam. The english voiceovers are p. bad, it seems that there is no real damage done to the environment despite huge explosions all over the place. I am currious what is the strategic layer going to look like, though I dont have any hopes for this being good. Really the only interesting thing about this at this point is the rusniggerian weapons/gear/vehicles, since that is not something you really get to see much in tactical games - that is hardly enough though.

It looks like something I might pick up for 5 € for the lulz, thats about it. Anyway, it has a demo, guess I will check it out coz why the fuck no.

Tried this - janky as expected, positive thing is that shooting various body parts has tangible effects on the enemies (for example shooting melee aliens in the "hands" prevents them from attacking for a turn). AI is OKish, the strategic layer seems to be way too simplistic.

I would say solid 5/10, nothing terrible but nothing noteworthy either.

Xenonauts 1 8/10
Nu-XCOM 5.5/10

Never played the Phoenix Point. I give Nu-XCOM 0.5 advantage due to much higher production values, but honestly I played SOF for 77 minutes and that is probably longer than I managed to stomach the Nu-XCOM for.

I'd say nu xcoms 4/10, Phoenix 7/10. But maybe 8 or 9 with updates (I played it years ago). (I haven't played Xenonauts.)

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.

Assault rifles have a range of 300m, while in most skirmish tactical games, their range is barely superior to the range of a grenade.

Xenonauts is pretty bad when Open Xcom exists. It is similar to that but worse in almost all ways.

Not just that but you do not send teams of 12 people to battle missions unless they are Delta Force and got equipment, terrain, surprise and sight advantage (night visions vs enemies with none).

I would love to play a realistic tactical combat game with realistic distances, damage models, team sizes and the rest. Control 50 man teams, expect 10 to come back vs 50 man enemy groups.

So this is not really not and XCOM clone but more of a mission based game? Played the game a bit and it seems to be mission based
