You’re making this sound awfully promising
I think anyone who appreciated Solasta's systems but found the content boring should give it a try. At the very least, if you don't enjoy it, you'll know any future custom adventure won't do anything for you and you can just forget about it. Lacrymas I'm talking about you.

But keep in mind that:
- I'm talking exclusively about combat. While they're slowly trying to add options, the dungeon maker still isn't suited for anything else. The background plot of the module is serviceable, but there just aren't the tools to build something worth playing "for the story".
- While there are encounters where verticality sort of matters (unreachable enemies, towers used as vantage points), the dungeon maker tools are still very "stiff", so don't expect the same freedom in building the areas as in the main campaign.
Other than allowing for triggering dialogue at a distance there isn't much I want for storytelling functionality for the DM. I make an effort with the story/dialogue but at the end of the day its there as a means to an end to enjoy the combat and campaign as a whole.

Hopefully they can include more verticality in the DM. Props like the castle walls are great but I can't spawn enemies on them and can't place cover fencing on them. Its just not near as much of a factor as I'd like it to be. I'll see what they add in Palace of Ice, might hint at any direction change.

A CRY FOR HELP

Deep in the far north, the Snow Alliance is in turmoil. Cunning Sorak schemes cause division as they manipulate former allies, and now the Kingdom of Gallivan has declared war upon its neighbors. It has been only a few months since the Heroes of Caer Cyflen stopped the Sorak from summoning their dark god, but for the brave there is no rest.

The Sorak defeat in the Badlands at the Aer Elai has forced them to be bolder, even reckless. Our intrepid adventurers must head north and aid their Snow Alliance allies, but will they make it in time?

REFORGE THE PACT

Trust, like safety and warmth, is scarce, and each clan of the Snow Alliance has its own unique challenges to deal with. No matter how strong each believes they are, if left alone, none will survive. For the Snow Alliance to prevail, a new purpose and unity must be forged; a new Speaker of the Pact must be elected to face the oncoming storm.

A legion of obstacles stands in the way of the adventurers – selfish squabbles, deep distrust, duplicity, and deceit. The party must overcome them all, if not, all will be lost.

AN UNKNOWN THREAT

Ferocious as the Soraks are, many forget that they are schemers too. Cautioned by past failure, and encouraged by near success, the Soraks will not underestimate the adventurers again. If they cannot cause Solasta’s fall alone, then, by Sorr-Tarr, they too will make alliances. And they have.

Mysterious disappearances, lost reports; just what is happening in the lands of the north? The party must be prepared to face new and dangerous foes – many previously unknown.

Factions!

so i will make a 6 man party with unfinished business mod for the original campaign. im thinking of a cleric/ fighter weapon master or polemaster/ fighter with the subclass that allows shield cast/ ranger/ inventor (probably weaponsmith) and a bard.
i want to fit in a spell blade type warrior, which wizard subclass is best for that?

Guys, there is any way to speed up the animations? Like I can't even cast a basic frost ray cantrip without a 3 second long magical circle animation around my char. I'm playing the campaign DLC for the first time in authentic difficulty. My party is pure magical, wiz/wlk/dru/sor. Since I wanna test the new magical classes.

Really enjoyed agonizing blast + repealing blast in WLK.

Finished up my second playthrough the other day. First playthrough was classic Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard. Second playthrough was more unconventional: Paladin, Rogue, Druid, Warlock. The biggest surprise was the Warlock. I thought I might miss having a more normal arcane caster, but it turns out that fireballs, walls of fire, and banishments that refresh on short rest with an occassional conjured elemental thrown in per long rest more than make up for their lack of spell selection.

Also, I'm having trouble making characters that aren't sylvan elves. That extra movement helps a lot of classes, dex seems like a must have stat for almost everyone, darkvision is a must have, elven weapon selection is great for classes that don't get martial weapons automatically, and getting athletics proficiency can help classes that don't get it normally.

Will be moving on to the Lost Valley DLC tonight!

It's been years since I played it but I'm fairly certain there was a keybind to speed up animations. According to some of the results on Google it appears spacebar might be the default button for it - maybe give that a try?

And if that's still too slow for you, install the Unfinished Business mod to increase the speed up factor.

You'll be having a lot more trouble than you think, leaf-ear. :argh:

I played all humans doing my first run on authentic, did you ever do a cataclysm run? This is one game where humans are at a disadvantage in several ways.
Dark vision isn't that bad a thing when lights exist

It is if you're trying to be stealthy. (At least, I assume there's a penalty for trying to be stealthy in well-lit areas, I haven't actually tested it.)

You can create your own as well but I still see it as a disadvantage and no stat boosts but I think humans get an extra feat or choice to add to stats? Not sure. I know some players say the game was too easy but it was a decent challenge for me, mostly because I had to get used to 5e.

Also, I didn't create a barbarian.

When you're sneaking about, you don't need light.

The game gets signficantly easier once you realize how powerful Wall of Fire is. It trivializes some of the toughest fights in the game.

I didn't understand the magic system well enough for sure. It is rather simple compared to previous iterations of dnd but it has its own nuances. I will play it again on cataclysm at some point and learn the system better.

#TRUTH

However! A large part of that has to do with fairly shit AI. Even when it was cranked up to the hardest difficulty they didn't seem to stay out of the firewalls all that well. Especially if you set up a "killbox" in an enclosed area.

how much ac is need for cataclysm?
i have found a way to stack more ac with the unfinished business mod, with a smith cleric and an inventor infusion you can add plus 2 ac. it lasts forever and its as wielding a shield.
