A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
just because early 3D graphics tend to look a lot better

Wha?

What next, CGA and ASCII having more "soul" that that soulless VGA for graphic whores?

"early 3D graphics" are the absolute worst blight ever to plague videogames. Even CGA was arguably better than that.
I agree that early 3D is the worst, but ASCII is the second best graphics style, that's undisputed.

Well, really early 3D like in Amiga games is actually soulful, but mid 90s 3D, PS1 3D are horribru.

The very best example of soulful vs soulless (visualwise):

I can't even understand how to not hate the hideous new visuals. Ingame graphics and cover art are both godawful.

Early 3D graphics have really ruined Legend of Kyrandia Book 3 (backgrounds only) and Escape from Monkey Island (of course, they are weaker gameplaywise and storywise as well). Hand of Fate is definitely one the most gorgeous video games in history.

I love many old 3D games (90s), but not a single one for the graphics. (Okay, there are maybe exceptions, like Grim Fandango, Blade Runner, Thief and Populous: The Beginning.) However, I find more games from the early 2000s visionally surptisingly reasonable (e.g. Mafia, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper).

>Game I like = SOVL

/thread
Well, yeah, but there's nothing wrong with the occasional "post the game you like" thread.
Of course not
But that wasn't what I was making fun of

Make it a challenge and post games you don't like but have soul.
impossible
I don't like any of the IE games and even some undisputed Codex classics like Arcanum
But I agree they have soul

Spyro series. I don't like how they control but it's hard to deny someone really wanted his fursona in a ps1 game. I did quite enjoy Skylanders as a generic 3d action game. I wish it didn't have the gimmick attached and had some more complexity in the levels though. It's a kids game but there's kids games with more depth to them than buy this figure to unlock the secret area.
Crash bandicoot past the first. Love the first, great platformer. Rest become bogged down with mini games.
God hand. The game controls like utter shit (and I like tank controls in survival horror games) but it's undeniably a weird passion project. It's gay as fuck (and so are you if you like it) but the Mazinger theme song remix and the dance number isn't something corpo games would include.
Final fantasy 6. A lot of effort and love went into all the branching story paths but I'd rather have had a more linear story instead of jumping around all the time.
Mario 3. Hate how short the levels are, before you're even going they're over. I'd rather play Mario world and have some meat to chew on. There's a lot of NES games like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania I don't like very much. They're not especially bad games, they're just very bland. Speedrunners have blown smoke up their ass for years and now they're over hyped.
Banjo and kazooie. Very soulful but I find it boring. There's better 3D platformers out there and a lot of this is hinged on nostalgia.

So, ugly = soul?

This is a 2022 game lmao get the fuck out of here with that shit.

No, it's not ugly = soul

But a project like this is a reflection of this developers soul. The game does not work or is functional in really any way but there is hardly any more reflective of a deranged creative endeavor with more soul than that. It's not made with soul, it's his soul.
