But he was responsible for the combat system was he not?

Combat related programming. I'm sure he had some input though. He even mentioned as much in that WillOi interview. iIRC

So, apparently the latest episode of South Park has the characters from the game: http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s17e07-black-friday

Not really, they're larping Game Of Thrones in this episode. I might be mistaken but I think Cartman had the same clothes when they were larping LOTR back in season 6. There wasn't no "princess Kenny" in this ep either.
Wut? Princess Kenny is in 1707. He's dead and his soul is trapped in Cartman's body in the season 6 episode. Everybody's outfits look about the same as they were in that episode, which is what they were emulating for the game all along.

Also, good quote at around the 19 minute mark:
Cartman said:
Sir Kyle, pre-ordering doesn't mean shit, mkay? When you're pre-ordering, you're just committing to paying for something some assholes in Califonia haven't even finished working on yet. You know what you get for pre-ordering a game? A big dick in your mouth.

I think it was both maybe?
The show ended with them all saluting him and shouting "All hail the princess!" though.

This is definitely gonna tie in to the game

The princess scene at the end was obvious GoT down to the "dragon"

Also South Park has insulted Obsidian's honor!

I think perhaps they were referring to themselves as part of the "assholes from California". I don't think most people interested in this game know or care who Obsidian are.

Yeah but Matt and Trey know who Obsidian is and I'm thinking they definitely meant it to be Obsidian
It's probably a double joke, since IIRC the production company for South Park is also located in California, and aren't Matt and Trey the ones who keep extending the production time for the game? It's not the first time they hid a stab at themselves in a joke, ie there's the joke about the boys getting their money back when they saw Baseketball (a bad film Matt and Trey starred in).

Certainly sounds like a jab at Obs. I wonder what's really going on behind the scenes.

It's a jab at pre-ordering. It's a joke in a children's cartoon. Don't start some stupid old wives gossip shit.

Keep in mind the game was supposed to come out a full year before the current March 2014 release date.
Kinda hard to believe the game was pushed back so far purely because THQ and Ubisoft each wanted to release it in some specific financial quarter or whatever, especially since Ubi announced a specific release date.
Could be Bugsidian at work or could be a million other things. There's definitely something going on, but hard to say what exactly.

And again, it doesn't seem to me like the joke was specifically aimed only at Obsidian, rather definitely aimed at Trey & Matt, possibly aimed at Obsidian too.

Tonight in the ending they took a direct jab at Obsidian/Ubisoft delay of the game... as a promo I guess.

Cartman: "Screw video games! Who fucking needs them? Fuck them!"
Narrator: "The South Park video game coming to stores soon!"
Butters: "Yeah, and if you believe that I've got a big floppy weener to dangle in your face"

Yep, this makes these three episodes were pretty much a huge jab at Obsidian. Plus the costumes, that subject matter... and the fact you could preorder the game in August... 2012. They must be really pissed off at them.

I still don't see how this is any more of a jab at Obsidian than a jab at themselves or the publisher(s), especially given that this is far from the first time they've poked fun at themselves.

Impossible to tell from the text whether it's self-deprecation or genuine anger at Obsidian, publishers or anyone else, but I'd lean very strongly towards the former.

It probably keeps getting delayed because they keep rewriting it. :M

Ok, if Matt & Trey start saying stuff like "OH MAN, THOSE OBSIDIAN GUYS COULDN'T CODE A GAME TO SAVE THEIR LIVES AMIRITE" during this presentation thing, then I'd be willing to concede that they're probably very angry at them.
If they don't address it or address it more vaguely, e.g. using the word "we" a lot or whatever, then you guys must promise to stop pissing your pants over how much they hate Obsidian, mmkay?

Seriously dude, even if they are mad, if they actually went around talking about it for reals they'd get sued by Ubisoft.

Will keep an eye on the VGX for newsposting, though
