I think the game would also hugely benefit from having static 3d models and an army painter similar to Moonbreaker. Maybe even animated 3d models at some point.
Yea it would make it better but i don't think it should be the main priority. Irc there is only one dev and he already relies on AI for art. Improving mechanics/campaign should be more important than cosmetics right now.

Sure. I just mean a lot of gamers are shallow and would only play this if it had bells and whistles like that.

It's a free game made for a very specific audience. The bells and whistles crowd will play total warhammer instead.

Don't know about any new DLCs but there's been uptick in player numbers because a bunch of YouTubers noticed this game.

In game it displays a Steam link to unlock but it does not take you to a new DLC to purchase. There was an update as the rear charging rules have changed for the better, that uodate must of set the foundation for the Elven Spellsword and Goblin King, which are 3rd commander type options for Elves and Orcs. Beastmen, Skaven and Lizards are also lacking that option. Wondering if they will also get another commander option in some type of Commander DLC package. Or maybe they will be adding Dark Elves or Brets….????

Just checked the steam forums, apparently they're indeed a part of a future commander pack DLCs that's not out yet.

It is called support pack. To support developer, as the main game is free.
Right, but I thought that was what these army DLC were for!
Well, army DLC's are something different, he mentioned at some point that each army should have a separate campaign, different mechanics, etc. Like in...ehmm.. TW:Warhammer maybe? There's already new update on a test branch with new events + new mechanic for Dwarves.

I don't fully understand this selling strategy, game should be priced. I believe that many gamers interested in wargames are 30+ ppl, having steady income, ready to pay something for a game. When they see a free game they think it is monetized crap product. Like myself, without 'dex I would never try this game.

In this case, the idea is clearly to get people hooked with the base game and then sell additional content.

I think the devs might have been exposed to too much mobile gaming or other questionable revenue models from other genres and are trying to apply the same model towards an audience that is highly sceptical of it.

It's undoubtedly not a smart business move - even selling the main game for as little as they sell the DLCs would've been a better idea.
As you said, I see a game for free, I'll just automatically skip it - unless I know it from some other source or it's a special thing (think Archolos or that standalone Slay The Spire game).

not enough free content to get hooked. i played this for two days and got bored.
I kind of agree. I got an army DLC to support the dev, but you are supposed to replay the same campaign at several difficulty levels?
It feels like the worst kind of game progression (at least, it is more consoletardism than mobiletardism)...
The core combat is pretty good, though, but it needs more flesh on the bones. The updates seem to go in the right direction, though!

Why does it have to be a selling strategy? Maybe he just wants the game to exist and gives people a way to pay some monies.

Its not the ‘same campaign’ over and over…. Look at Dwarf, their units start to unlock more unit abilities as higher level difficulty is overcome. Example - They get Oaths that give the unit advantages vs monsters or calvary or chariots, etc….

There’s no fun in grinding short campaigns of small battles to unlock advantages over what already is a fairly basic AI.
Fingers crossed, the dev sticks with it and develops the game into a gem, but for the moment it’s still quite barebones.

Lets be real, its tabletop Warhammer Fantasy Battles on the PC. Its a very basic game at its roots to begin with…. Its a nice casual game, not overly complicated, without the need to spend 50 hrs painting to play. I play it out of nostalgia from a few decades ago. I didn’t have ‘complexity’ as an expectation going in…. But its good enough to scratch the itch.
