Trying to defend SJW piece of shit work isn't funny either.
You misunderstand. I'm not trying to defend this new game. All I said was that a new bad story isn't worse than an old bad story, and novelty is potentially funnier than cliche. Who here honestly thinks this game would be improved by changing the plot to finding the MC's missing father?

My mistake on your intentions.

I wouldn't like that storyline either, but you presented the alternate choice. It's a false dichotomy and you know it.

In Saints Row 1, the playa gets sacrificed for his boss to protect himself all for political points. Saints Row 2 picks up right after that. The entire storyline is a personal one about loss and rebuilding everything better. It ultimately is a story about brotherhood and belonging. It also is about starting with nothing and getting to the top of society in business and politics. Student loans aren't even on the meter in comparison. It's not even a drop in the bucket.

Let me put it simply. A story about a ghetto kid that has to do crime to put a roof over their head and food in their stomach vs. a white whiny liberal whose biggest problem in life is a chipped nail and daddy's credit card is taken away from them. Which story is more compelling?

I didn't even touch upon the renaming of established businesses from Rim Jobs and Freckle Bitches to Jim Robs and FBS.

Doddering dunce of a dotard, when was there even a missing child plot in Saint's row.

Y'all, I was directly responding to Belegarsson's observation that this game's plotline is bad because
It's not blackmail, it's not a debt that threatens the lives of close ones, it's a freaking student loan my god.

It's funny that you ignored everything else I said to cherry pick a sentence out of context.

They can both be good. The existence of American Gangster doesn't mean that Mallrats should never have been made.

I didn't even touch upon the renaming of established businesses from Rim Jobs and Freckle Bitches to Jim Robs and FBS.
Good, because that's not what we're talking about at all.

Yes privilege Millennial kids starting a criminal gang because daddy cut the credit card is not going to be good. It's shallow and a fuck you to working class people. You know the people that actually have to struggle in life to get ahead? The very same ones that these insufferable twats denigrate with their very breath and speech? I'd rather play Goat Simulator for its storyline over this pile of shit.

It actually is a part of the discussion whether you like it or not. This is Soy Row not Saints Row. Enjoy your soy.

We seem to have hit on a personal issue of yours. I'm sorry if you have had working class struggles, or if working class struggles are a serious important issue to you that has been triggered by this unimportant game. Okay, you're hung up on realism, serious social analysis and a sense of justice ... I'm not sure how earlier Saints Row games fulfilled any of these needs.

It actually is a part of the discussion whether you like it or not. This is Soy Row not Saints Row. Enjoy your soy.
Again, you clearly aren't making much attempt to understand what I'm arguing about. Beat that straw man!

I have zero issues actually. I don't care what you think about me either. But if all you can do is put together false dichotomies and strawmen arguments then there really isn't much to discuss with you now is there? Have a wonderful day and this is my last reply to you here. You can talk to yourself and enjoy that conversation along with your steaming hot cup of soy.

Codex 2012 Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Dead State Project: Eternity Codex USB, 2014 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
Great story can be turned into garbage and a horrible story into something thrilling.

Story about student loan can be done right, a naive student does something slightly illegal to help him financially only that pulls him more into a criminal world from which he can no longer escape and lives of his loved ones are threatened.

Now he must become what he hates to saved who he cares about, simple and effective.

Problem is that everything about this, from visuals, character design and story, just screams modern day woke, soy filled politics crammed into a beloved franchise.

Saint's Row 3: Gangsters kill each other. No other plot. Just a problem that needs solving.
Saint's Row 4: Aliens in the Matrix. No other plot. Just a problem that needs to be solved.

Nu Row: Student loans. People take to crime to find a solution for a non-problem. Totally sensible and funny in an ironic way.

Definitely not sensible. Again, "this is highly plausible" is not required for any Saints Row plot point. Is it funny? Who knows, probably not. If it's funny, it will probably be funny in ways these dumb writers don't intend; I highly doubt this will come close to "so bad it's good" territory, more likely to be just bad. But none of this is proof that a "first world problems" storyline should never be used.

There's a movie called MDMA which is an exaggerated autobiographical account of a working class girl who gets into a prestigious university on a scholarship, finding out that she still can't entirely afford it, so she ends up making and selling ecstasy on the side using the college's facility (MDMA didn't get scheduled until 1985). That's certainly a better premise than this. :M

The entire premise is that these are college students that are starting a gang empire to pay off their student debt.... Why would criminals pay off their student debt using funds from a criminal empire? You don't think the government won't know where the money came from? Pure decline.

If they're college students, surely they're informed enough to know how to launder the money.

It's getting worse...

and even more worse...

Volition development director Jim Boone has confirmed that the upcoming Saints Row entry is being developed and written with ‘modern’ sensibilities in mind.

https://boundingintocomics.com/2021...ty-in-favor-of-appealing-to-modern-audiences/

The ship is sinking and the sexist and racist shills prove it...

The cast of every game in the series has been incredibly diverse, and while - like everything else in the game - romance isn’t taken particularly seriously, Saints Row 4 lets you hook up with everyone on the ship, be they male, female, or killer laser robot. Saints Row was also incredibly sex positive. Sure, it laughed at the big purple dildos and giggled when it took you into stripclubs or BDSM dungeons, but Saints Row believes that sex work is real work. The language was occasionally derogatory, but never deliberately offensive and it gave sex workers far more agency than GTA ever did. Kinzie Kensington, the game’s best character - this is not a debate - is incredibly sex positive without ever being objectified, mocked, or humilated by the game.

On the official Saints Row channel the last trailer has 11k likes to 18k dislikes. The prior trailer sits at 22k likes to 46k dislikes.

Top comments are:

A real slaughter of a classic from our youth ... The spirit of the game is gone ... The gangsters and criminals who looks like a SJW college kids from Twitter. There is no credibility.

"We love Saints Row, but we wanted a different tone for our game" Then you didn't love Saints Row, mate.

"He doesn‘t wear a shirt, i don‘t know why, but he loves cooking!" "He like‘s podcast!" "They want to pay off student loans" A+ character writing right here.

Yeah this is going to bomb hard.

Whenever a writer talks about how they written a piece of work with "modern sensibilities" in mind than that work is going to suck hard. Not only are you more concerned with scoring brownie points with the androgynous ham beasts, fur fags, troons and pedophiles on Twitter and RetardEra than writing a good story but you also date your piece of entertainment. The original Saints Row is somewhat timeless as people can still look back at those games and laugh and have fun. You are not going to get that with this woke trash heap.

Yes, women and men who risk getting attacked or killed by their clients when hustling on the streets can be seen as work. Opening an OnlyFans or Twitch account and taking pictures of your toes or bathing in bacon grease for horny teenagers isn't sex work and should be shamed. Also, sex work is nothing but objectification. The porn industry and even sites like OnlyFans and Twitch make their money on the objectification of women's sexuality. Stop kidding yourselves with this nonsense gaming journalists.

I don't think any premise precludes a story from being great.
The thing is that any premise can be made into a good story. You just need the right talent to pull it off. Does the Nu-Saints Row writing team have that kind of talent? Fuck no and neither does most of the modern Western game industry. They are more concerned with checking down diversity boxes and making a product for a mass audience than they are with telling a good story. This is what the YouTube channel FilmCourage calls "Factory Manufactured Entertainment".

At present, woke products have been terrible in addition to being woke. A lot of people have attributed this to the woke mindset being antithetical to the creative one.

What scares me is if a woke product actually turned out to be creative and fun. It'd be the first example of a woke product being such, and it would be a huge win for them.

My biggest criticism isn't so much the woke elements, it's both the pandering and that it appears the publisher wants to shoehorn Saints Row into a PG, kid friendly market.

Because every time they've tried to create something new it bombed. Nobody wants their politics and outlook on life, including the hatred of their native country. That's why they infiltrate existing properties that have large fanbases and destroy them from within. That's why the fans are revolting against Soy Row. They don't want it.
