If you beat the triple challenge, you have a chance at Daves's.

After this, the other three series should be quite easy. To a degree...

I have a very mage heavy party (all dual-classed), and I guess you lose spellcasting throughout. I'm bringing a boatload of wands and necklaces of missles. We'll see.

I'm about outfitted to start it. Characters have ACs ranging from -14 to -17. Need to buy some healing potions.

So long as you have enough levels for the core classes. DC is very weighted towards a balanced party.

If I remember correctly, yes. I had been a long time though. Dave should tell you before you head off to try it.

It is ridiculously difficult though. I won't spoil any more of it.

Hmm. I'll try it. If not having a thief prevents me, I think I've had enough with da Goldbox for a while. Four in a row is my limit. But I sure have got good at memorizing all the keystrokes. I now whiz through the game. ;)

Ah well, I couldn't do Dave's challenge without a thief. There's a trapped door I couldn't disarm and get through to get the thief's bond.

It grates on my completist side, but I'll live with it.

Dave's challenge is pretty ridiculous anyway. Losing all your spells and the inability to use magic items at times was pretty crazy difficult. I got as far as I could, without a thief, but it was damn extreme.

Told you so. Still, you got as far as you could which is an achievement.

You are all gold boxed out? But you have three other series to go....

When/If you go for the rest of them, try playing the Buck Rogers two first as something a little refreshing.

I have the silver box collection, that includes Hillsfar, EoB 1-3, Gateway and Treasures of the Savage Frontier, Menzoberranzon, and DungeonHack.

When I get a hankering, which would you suggest?

As a kid I got to play Curse on my cousins Amiga during summer vacations. Kicking black dragon ass in the wildernass was badass.

A couple of years ago I was playing through the Pool-games with a pretty standard human party: paladin, ranger, two mages, cleric and a dwarf fighter/thief. The two fighters from Pool got swapped out in CotAB for new guys. I didn't finish Pools, it got boring when even the mages without armour started getting -8 - -10 AC.

This summer I was playing the Krynn games, which was a first for me. Didn't quite manage to finish Dark Queen before summer ended though. I have a human knight, hill dwarf fighter, silv.elf kiri-joli cleric/ranger, quali-elf fighter/red mage, silv. elf mishkal cleric/white mage and a kender kiri-joli cleric/thief. I'm otherwise happy with the squad but instead of the dwarf I would probably pick another knight or a fourth elf if I were to start all over again.

These games are pretty fun what with the nostalgia factor going for the graphics and stuff.

For a change, you could make a run through of EOB1. It is totally different to the GB series of course. The only GB games you have in that collection are Gateway and Treasures.

Might as well give the original a crack then. See if you like it. If you do, then this will open up a whole new set of games for you to play (not only EoB games either, but the many others that are similar in type but no less enjoyable).

Have you previously played many oldschool games? or are you just getting into them? If so, I am impressed that you got through the whole Forgotten Realms series of Goldbox.

I'm new to oldschool. I also have M&M World of Xeen and Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, both unplayed yet.

Once again reminded why 3ed was so much better than 2ed. I would love to play PoR in the infinity engine with 3ed rules.

Yes, it's DOS-version.

I'd just man up and face having to resurrect Cupcake but fighting my way out from the damn temple with 2 unconscious and 1 dead party members... not going to happen. Oh well, I can only blame myself for that "little" mistake.

Why not in ToEE? Infinity, enginewise, was nothing to write home about and it required that stupid RTwP-system slapped over D&D.

It was a cool video for someone who's never gone very far into PoR, let alone CotAB. I would only suggest you speak up and clearer, as even with the volume up your voice sounds a little too soft.

Haven't watched it yet. Will you also read the journal entries aloud the games constantly refer too?

Haha, I have my hands full already, not going to LP Goldbox-games :D Though that would be awesome. "You mark the notes as journal entry 22 - let me find it - here we go, krhm - IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT"

Yah, I'll keep that in mind SerratedBiz if I ever do more.

fixed :)

Btw, how can I load a savegame in POR? Do I have to restart the game always?
My thief died somehow and the raise dead service by the temple is "only" 5500 gold :D
Can I use the savestates of the emulator problem-free?

If you use emulator, then savestates make your life super easy. If it's DosBox, then quickest way is to Alt+F4 and restart. Made me really want to avoid reloading in PoR - I even dropped Meatshield, my first fighter cause the poor bastard went and got killed on level 1, so Meatshield JR stepped cause I couldn't afford 5500 gold and I had just finished a bitching fight (for a lvl1 party).

Oh and it's the same in Curse (probably all the Goldbox-games, though been ages since I played the others).

Good times, good times. :P

Awesome thing I just spotted - the ioun stones are broken, except the one that is supposed to give +1 CHA. That gives either 50 or 100 charisma when readied  Hopefully it didn't corrupt my save or anything!
