We'll see how they make it.

I noticed a nice detail: when an emission is beginning, Skadovsk sends up a flare as a warning.

Yeah, I noticed that flare really late too.

Also, began new game as a Sniper. The soundtrack is different from the Recon. And the fucker makes huge noises while moving in the lowest stance (my Recon was silent as a shadow). Oh, and his stamina, running speed and skills ("stable aiming", "precision weapons maintenance") are all crap. Besides beginning with a crap sniper rifle with no scope at all.

I think they should make the sniper specialist more powerfull in 2.0. Right now, its like playing in a harder level on purpose. I wonder how the Assault fares. I think Im beginning to understand peoples complain about stamina. If Sniper is already bad, the Assault must be pathetic. I miss my Recon. :(

EDIT: oh, just had a nice suprise. Ordered a pistol from Nimble, wishing for the Alpine (modded Sig), but got the Steppe Eagle. I was already sad but then the guy said its a fucking "sniper pistol" and I got curious. Checked its stats and shit.. it has an accuracy of rifles! Besides being powerful as hell. Well, so in the end it fitted my sniper more, it seems.

Yeah I thought the sniper starting with a scopeless rifle was pretty r00fles too. At least give him an SVD or something... it's not like it would be very conspicuous given you're meant to be infiltrating the stalkers.

If they realize all those plans this will be one of the best games ever made. I can't believe someone can actually fix the broken stealth in Stalker, it sounds too perfect

Hm I usually hate sneaking around in FPS games, but this sounds nice. Hope they will release it soon. Still butthurt that I can't use dynamic lighting for whatever reason :(

Yeah I saw that too. The awareness overhaul and fog updates sound particularly sweet, but the proof is in the pudding. I hope they can pull it off.

I don't think they are going to make stealth much better, but any kind of improvement they make will be seriously appreciated!

P.S.: Stash stuff sounds good, although I don't think it will be that great in the game, I haven't played it recently but I already know where to put my stash so stalkers can't reach it, the fact they can't climb stairs makes it too easy, specially when the Stadovsk has lots of high-places.

wat

Of course they climb stairs. What about the group of stalkers who set up on the roof of the tower near the cement factory?

Oh, sorry, I meant vertical stairs, if I recall correctly there were some of these in the Stadovsk's upper part, though maybe I got confused and they're just normal stairs... I need to play that game again, damn :(

They can climb ladders also. Besides, the Skadovsk already has a stash box you can use in one of the rooms. I think the only truly safe location for a lootable stash would be somewhere you have to jump to access, as someone mentioned earlier.

They can?! Really? Wow, I truly didn't know that, I always believed they weren't able to (to say the truth I don't even remember seeing that happen at least once...), but if that's indeed the case then this feature will be pretty cool.

Yeah you very rarely see it in CoP, but they can. I remember seeing NPCs do it more often in SoC.

Played through CoP first, because the engine seems much more optimized. Had trouble running SoC in a satisfactory manner. CoP is pretty immersive. Although there is not much to find, exploring is still very atmospheric. The end was kind of anticlimatic. Too easy.

Now i've installed the complete mod for SoC and it runs much better on high/maximum details then the medium vanilla. Don't know how this is even possible. Game looks awesome. Anyway Codex spreads the truth again, both games are very worth playing.

I dig the idea of having to pay for storage and hidden stashes being lootable.
Would be fun to stow your stuff somewhere high and unreachable in addition to being in the middle of anomaly field. Also, looting should use LoS - if a stalker don't see your stash at some point, he won't try to loot it.

Besides beginning with a crap sniper rifle with no scope at all.
Doesn't sniper begin with Mosin-Nagant?

Fucking Simo Hayha used this, also without scope.

Sneaking is actually pretty good in SoC, it's just hard as fuck and silencer aren't magical Holywood silencers.

Besides, X18. Nao.

Yea, you could say that. If you want to be exact though, Simo used a M/28 "Pystykorva", which was a White Guard volunteer militia's weapon made from old Mosin spare parts from abroad that were assembled and given a new barrel and sights. No scope.

I seem to recall he deliberately eschewed an optic sight to avoid glare giving away his position though, among other possible reasons. Either way I think it's fair to say one would expect a sniper to use an optic of some sort.

All this talking about stealth made me remember I had to continue my Thief 2 playthrough, which I left at the start of the 12th mission, it's freaking glorious, until you get to the last two or three pieces of loot which you cannot find no matter how much you try, I have been stuck at 2938 of 2988 for at least five hours :(

PS: Stalker's stealth felt rather clunky to me, maybe a bit too hard, though admitedly I haven't tried to use it that much outside of the agroprom/cordon military bases.

Except it isn't
I have successfully ghosted Agroprom and either ghosted Cordon mission or some 90% through it, so I could form an informed opinion - you?

Apart from reload bug (which goes away if you use ZRP) stealth is good. Not perfect but still infinitely superior to, say, Deus "must've been a homeless guy" Ex.

Sure, improving it would be excellent, but the only complaint I have is that the game doesn't incentivize it's use.

Are there any Stalker /preferable CoP/ mods that add new missions/quests?

Nice implication. I could form as informed opinions as yours: I successfully watched whole Surfing Nazis must Die from Troma and 90% of Toxic Aveneger 2, so they are quite good movies
Fail.
:hearnoevil:

What I'm saying is that I had an opportunity to test the stealth system extensively and can understand it well enough to use it effectively.
What do you have to show here? Because shooting bandit in the head with PB1s, and concluding that stealth is broken because the other bandit 2m away heard it despite PB1s being a suppressed weapon that should magically make him oblivious doesn't quite cut it.

Level some actual criticism at STALKER's stealth system rather than vague "waaah! borked!" or GTFO.

What's your experience with stealth in CoP Misery? Is it just me or NPCs have 220 degrees field of vision? Also, their flashlight penetrates brick walls. Unlike before, I find myself unable to ghost that waste processing plant full of mercs.
