Usually it's 1 burst DPS class, 1 DoT DPS class and 1 healer/tank class. There are differences and they aren't crap. Usually.

So if I'm reading the last few pages of this thread correctly then this shit is actually kinda good, eh?
Quests are fun, some of the class quests are very well written, good companions. Most of the environments are very well designed, especially cities like Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant.
With regards to combat, they basically lifted it directly from WoW sans auto attack. The combat feels as "fluid"(for lack of a better term) as WoW's combat in contrast to most MMOs having very stiff, unresponsive combat.

it's warcraft, with some bells and whistles attached in the form of starships (which are all the same for everybody) and landspeeders (which are all the same for everybody), with a criminal monetization scheme which brutally punishes f2p, mandatory builds and mandatory skills. there's not even a talent tree. it's so sawyerized that last time i checked the very bestest of the best pvp builds was that one in the name of its 6,5% higher dps average over all others. it's a bad 20 years old game.
but it's star wars, with its swooshes and waaaaaaaahs, it's a larping heaven second only to star trek online (but by a humongously gigantic far, because sto has several structures to actually support and encourage it), and even if in the end all you do is push the same sequence of buttons over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (if you don't play a stealth class you have no idea what "filler" actually means, i should go on with "and over" for at least a whole page) it's the only mmorpg with cinematics and c&c. which most of the times are just for flavour, but still it's something.
and it's a mmorpg, we human beings love watching numbers grow, just look at progress quest.

Untruth. While mechaincally identical, the layout of the classes' ships is different. It's just that both Sith classes have the same ship model and both Jedi classes have the same ship model. Imperial Agents, Bounty Hunters, Smugglers and Republic Troopers all get different toys.

Untruth. You get to pick 8 talents out of 4 different pools, and these can very significantly change your build. As for pvp, perhaps you mean a dps build? Keep in mind that there are other roles to play, also in pvp.

While technically true, the filler has been significantly reduced, at least in nice places such as House Rist of Alderaan. And you can just run past them all, reach the story area entrance, get killed, call a med probe to revive you, enter the story area and be done with it.

And as usual the question on the internets will always be: "Hi I am new, what spec is the best?", followed by some parrot repeating what others said and tell him "the dot spec!".
Which is the wrong answer to that question in 99% of all cases. Unless you like picking your nose while watching trashmobs slowly bleed to death.

Dot is what you switch to for endgame operations, so you deal dmg to their yuge HP pool even if you are pushed around. Or if you get a kick out of watching yuge numbers escape from a training dummy. But for leveling you want one with a stronk burst aoe. :obviously:

For Master Nightmare Mode operations you still want to see high burst for some bosses. For leveling, the basic aoe of each class is usually sufficient.

But the question itself is as dumb as they get. "What spec is best?" FFS untermensch, for what purpose? PvE DPS? PvP DPS? Tanking? Healing? Galactic Starfighter?

Reminds me of "what is the best guild?" questions. Which also depends on profile. Sometimes I just wanted to murder half of the fleet chat.

Started to play as mustached burly minigan Sargent Atton Gand in Trooper taking all the options to aid Empire and humans and shoot some natives:

" Any person that runs is a Separatist anyone that stands still is a well disciplined Separatist" Now this class is fun somehow. :incline:

After watching "The Mandalorian", I began to see the "I never liked them" booty hunter in a more favorable light and decided to take The_Baroness for a short spin.
Turns out I left her on Belsavis for years, which.. is kinda fitting. Or fun for her, being a target rich environment and all that.

1) I left the headslot off. No helmet for her. Sad.
2) The tauntaun pet following her around is not a lethal adorable as... you know who. Sad.
3) They took the merc's flamethrower away! But still rub it in by gaining a magic one when destroying things. :argh:
4) Skadge. :argh::argh::argh:

Skadge: I will join your crew.
Every player: Fuck no!
Bioware dialog: 1) Sure 2) Mkay 3) Okay, but I'll watch you.
:x

But I did see you mention skipping on the Inquisitor story, my good Commissar. I am severely disappointed
Inqui is the only class I would replay in a hearbeat. Still get smiles thinking about it.
"Announce me Khem."
And announcing your morose monster does.

Every class has way too many fucking abilities and gets them way too soon. By level 20 you have at least 2 full quickbars overflowing with abilities. I feel like some classes are the equivalent of playing dance dance revolution because of all the buttons you have to press/react to various procs.
Overloading you with abilities that all essentially do the same thing but on different cooldowns isn't interesting or complex, it's just cumbersome.

I actually like that you get them in rather fast order now, makes your actions less repetitive. Definitely an improvement over tracermissile-tracermissile-tracermissile-tracermissie-vent heat-tracermissile-etc... although I am sure many people are still playing mercs that way. Funny tho, the merc's whole heat mechanic must have of stopped being an issue after lvl 20 or so, since you quickly get enough abilities to run half/most of the Perfect_Rotation(tm), which practically uses no heat at all. :hahano:
TBH, it feels that only Warriors/Knights have to deal with that hassle. You can quickly run out of juice and depending on the spec juicemakers are late bloomers.

As for the abilites overload, I usually ended up using.. dunno, 8 max on a char? Because solo story mode doesn't need defensiv ones. Or CC. IF you even had one, thank you for taking the sniper's only CC away too Bioware. :argh:
I did pick for looks tho, so no vengeance on the warrior, because... making force burp my main dmg ability was to unintentional hillarious for me.

At higher levels it strangely stopped being an issue for mine. Probably because of later passives, e.g. using less per attack goes a long way to keep what you get from sabre throw/charge. Huh, need to check it, I remember reading a lot of specs had late additions that did change things a lot.

I was so used to tight energy from running only those two through expansions, that I really had to rub my eyes after dipping into all the others again. I can go full bananas on the sorc and don't even use 20% of my energy. Sniper? Merc? Why do they even have a bar? Staring at the global cooldown is their only form of "energy management". :hahano:

Then I reached my 30ish sentinel and... never enough energy on all 3 specs. Sad.

This has stopped me from seriously reactivating. I got the TOR bug again watching the Mandalorian like many others and also because 6.0 dropped as well. I logged in and I have a bunch of advanced characters 60-65 and beyond. I go into game and I have, literally 30 abilities on my hotbars and I'm like WTF??? I haven't played in years and it is just overwhelming and I can't be arsed to learn what they all do again.

I do NOT like the ESO / Guild Wars 2 full retard method of only having 5 abilities at a time that is beyond stupid as well. But having 30 queued up is the total opposite. Isn't there an MMO out where 'balance' is still a thing. 10 or 12 -really- useful abilities would be the sweet spot.
