And more consistent usage of malloc/free wouldn't hurt either.

Wow after seeing that footage of the in game combat, It looks like the characters in the game are LARP fighting rather than fighting for real, Kick ass !!!Oblivion will be the first fantasy LARPing simulator now they just need to say lightning bolt, lightning bolt :)

The graphics - especially faces - actually do remind me of the pre-Morrowind Elder Scrolls franchise... so yes, I like what I see. I'm really curious for the finished product.

None, all of the character's faces are different. Every single one.

That's cool.

Though I hope the other Dark Elves don't look like that bloke in the video. He just looks like a sickly grey human. I much preferred the Morrowind Elves.

Speaking of piracy, I would be really interested to know how many full-priced games per month you could buy after you pay all the necessities (bills, food, etc) Assuming you are old enough to have a proper job. For me it's one game...

For me it's between .25 and .33 of a game per month. I get one for birthday, one for xmas and one other (sometimes two if it's a great gaming year). Big mortgage + 3 kids means I don't have much left after bills. This is why I mostly play older games, with the occasional full price biggie... HL2 last xmas, OB this xmas etc tec

I understand where you're coming from MSFD regarding pirating games, but I have played demos many times, and bought the game because I thought it would be great only to get bored 2-3 levels later! I hate that. The only solution I've come up with is to dl full version of a game that I'm unsure of and play until half way. Usually by then I've bought it or uninstalled it, and if I haven't then I choose one of those options. Mainly I rely on PC Gamer (UK) reviews, but sometimes it's not enough (there are so many games and I buy so few) and othertimes it doesn't matter because I know I want them (DF, HL2, MW). As for relying on friends I trust - I don't have any friends who play games. None! Three kids doesn't leave a lot of time for socialising anyway. Renting a game - can't afford the monthly subs, and no local Blockbuster does PC games. Waiting for budget.. sure no problem I do this for some games that I don't want too badly, but I dtill don't want to waste a tenner on a game that I play <30% of!!

Call it wrong or piracy or whatever... all I know is that I want to pay for the games I really like and appreciate, and this is the best way for me to do that I've found. Been doing it since the Amiga days. I have never finished a pirated game, all games that I finish I've bought (or were free)

Currently playing: SystemShock2 (free), Geneforge 3 (cheap & good size demo), Angband (free), HalfLife2 (steam purchase)

Pirated & tried, but not bought: Doom 3 (OMFG I loved D1&2 - this was shit, didn't even make it 20%)

There are some full priced games I'd like to try, but my xmas game money is waiting, so I won't dl them...

Now if all demos were 50% of the full game then there wouldn't be any need for this. Even 30% should be enough. Don't just give me the best bit of the game FFS!! Never gonna happen is it.

MOST OF the games that I was unsure of that I just bought or played demo and bought over the years are the ones that I regret! Never regretted any of the game purchases made after trying the full pirated version, not one!

I guess I can buy as many games as I want. I only play crpgs though so I don't really buy many at all. I still can't afford that Rolls Royce though, but I haven't gone and pirated/stolen one. I sometimes have to choose what to get and what not to get too. I wanted Cardinal playoff tickets but decided that there were other things I could do with the money.

The bottom line is that games are a luxury item. If you can't afford it, go watch tv or play something free like Angband until you've saved up the money. If you decide to steal it, don't rationalize the theft. You've decided on a life of petty crime which hurts MSFD and Bethesda and the whole gaming industry.

I'm not sure which moron claimed that there was as much pirating on consoles as pcs but maybe they should just do a little reading up on the facts. Good grief! Even common sense would tell you it's much simpler to download a few files than it is to take an Xbox apart, take out a chip and solder in a new one.

Anyone who pirates non-microsoft and non-EA PC games should be lined against a wall and shot. Twice, in the stomach, with a small arm.

Not really, you just take it over to the guy down the street who will do it for $10.

Not that I'm condoning the action, just saying it's possible.

malloc's in stdlib.h, but I concede your point.

Gimme printf with the glibc add-your-own-% hooks over ostreams any day.

Before seeing the movie I might've considered this a relief, but since there were so many things that looked plain uncool, I guess this just creates doubt for me. Maybe the game won't look like the most boring use of advanced graphics ever. Well, the forest looked nice, but that's about the only thing.

And I sure hope that this way of holding a torch and a sword is out. I don't often use the word "retarded", but really... "Look, ma', I have a sword and a torch and..."*glee*

ewww. those monsters look horrible. i hope this is an old screenshot, and they have been worked over.

also i just now noticed the horse in the beginning of the kvatch scene. i gallopp-slides in from the right turns on spot with no animation at all and slides out again. yuk! same with the dog. why are there no turning animations?

they don't have time to add those, because VD and the rest of the codex made them work on Gameplay features :)

VXSS (beth dev) said that animation transitions are being tweaked hopefully the turning issue is part of that.

the other posobility is that they do not know how to do animations properly.
they had to get the money from somewhere to send the artists to school to learn about soil erosion. :P

Mhh... the ogre sounds (the last one from the first dungeon) are familiar to me.
Doom pops into mind... am I right?

I personally don't usually care too much for either (long live text!), but I think we should distinguish between graphics (as in, the kind of thing that required you to get a new graphics card) and style (which anyone can screw up no matter how powerful the graphics are and how many polygons there are and how bump-mapped light-reflected bloom'n'real-time-shadowed it all is).
