So.. these idiots sent me an email reminding me to install the game on steam and discussing path notes. Which is HILARIOUS since I never bought the game. ARE THEY THAT DESPERATE?

I consider this harassment. Another point against them. MORANS.

I will share the same advice with them that I do with many Codexers: FUCK OFF.

Now hold on a minute; is that a Derro on the far right? If I can play a party of 4 Derro, I'll buy this P.O.S.

Unless things have changed dramatically, this is what was said about playable races couple of months ago:

Tudge says the game will launch with six of D&D 5E’s twelve classes, the cleric, fighter, paladin, ranger, rogue, and wizard; and with five of the nine playable races: Dwarf, Elf, Half-Elf, Halfling, and Human. Tudge defends these decisions by explaining that n-Space is an indie developer, and has to think about what it can manage while shipping on time and providing a quality game.

Apparently this is a companion or NPC:

While other derro are known for being cruel, insane, and evil, Izhkin simply wishes to rule his realm with benevolence, regardless of whose spleen he has to rip out and give to Golgamann, his assistant, who only seems to talk to Izhkin himself. Also, the author of this bio certainly is not doing so at the point of an envenomed dagger, so you know all of this is true.

Izhkin is as adept with his blades as he is good-looking… possibly even moreso. His contacts in the black markets of the Underdark allow him to procure goods no one else would touch, and you could hardly find a better guide through the caves, chasms, and caverns of the Underdark… as long as you’re not overly stuck on being able to trust—or even comprehend, for that matter—your guide.

Well, it doesn't change the fact that the game looks like a complete clusterfuck but if I can create a dwarven PC and form a party from the two dwarven NPCs and the Derro, I suppose I'll pick this up when it hits $5.

Yes, I pre-ordered it months ago to support 5ed. What a great idea, right?

Just played it a bit, its very loosely based on D&D, there's only one game i can remember with the D&D label being so far of...That's clearly the spiritual successor of neverwinter 1 .Will be fun online with friends, handmade campaigns and mods probably.

When a complete beginner wants to enter he wonderful world of pen and paper gaming the shop clerk advise hero's quest as first game.Thats probably the same public its targeting.

The game will probably be pretty enjoyable (not good though) when playing with friends or fellow retards Codexers, despite its shortcomings. However, preordering games like this one doesn't really support D&D (and might actually hurt if the implementation of the rules is terrible), it just sends a clear signal that there are people willing to spend money on anything with a license strapped to it, no matter how terrible - need I explain how that ruins the market? The devs should not see any money until they deliver a (good) product, that might make them actually care for the quality a little bit (wishful thinking? maybe).

It's time for the devs to stop playing pussyfoot with the old d&d crowd, trying to milk a few more sales from them before the final reveals, and just start making the true big reveals that their true target market really cares about.
  • What are Drizzt's stats in the game?
  • Can Drizzt be dropped into any module?
  • Who voices Drizzt?
  • Is Drizzt romanceable?
  • Are there going to be custom costume pack DLCs?
  • Can I dress up Drizzt too?
  • Is there going to be marriages? hint hint (see Neverwinter Nights for inspiration)

I agree and I'm ashamed of my reckless behaviour.
Well, there isn't much you can do about it now, do let us know what you think of the game .

Shows what you know. Drizzt's stats are level scaled.

If anyone else has access to the Head Start 2 this weekend I would love to have you help me test the DM tools if you are interested... so far I have been able to jump into multiplayer but have been unable to run as a DM.

We would need to be on Skype or I would need to be on Twitch and you hanging out in the Twitch channel while we chatted, etc.

Thanks to Codexer BlackadderBG for helping me on Twitch tonight by the way.

There's nothing to be ashamed for, we are small niche market, hard to make games for an extremely hard to please crowd. No matter what you do they will never make an improved gold box game with 5E, the executives dont even know what are those games and what do you want,They dont even care you exist . The only thing that matters is selling magic cards and milking that D&d name any way they can . Remember for Ubisoft, legendof grimrock and might and magic are the same thing, those guys could even be more clueless.

Only hope to get a good big budget rpg is if the people in charge with the money are also passionate and love true old school rpg ---> sven is the savior. If larian ever gets a D&D license it will be heaven. Dragonlance make it happen please....

Also started with this too:

Exactly why D&D fans should not be preordering games like that. It is pretty safe to assume that a majority of people who originally preordered SCL are D&D fans (or at least P'n'P fans anyways). That makes it much easier for the devs to design the game in the most casual-friendly way possible, so as to attract customers who couldn't care less about how faithful the in-game mechanics are but who would at the same time get discouraged by challenging tactical combat etc. - there's only so many 'hardcore' gamers out there and they've already got a substantial percentage of them to preorder so why try and cater to the needs of the rest when it doesn't guarantee additional revenue?
Now if we (as in people who actually play P'n'P RPGs) don't support such crappy endeavours it won't make sense for those companies to pay for the license and create terrible RPGs, they'll just start new franchises. It will thus be easier for devs who are passionate about D&D to get their hands on the license and deliver a product that we will enjoy.
