Could've easily solved that by allowing talkers to request backup from the party they work for. Meat-shields to battle constructs and loremasters to handle traps, all while you twirl your Hervean moustache and push ever deeper towards your goal.

There is already a little bit of that in Hellgate, where you can convince a dumb fighter to attack the construct for you. More of that would have been awesome.

Good point. Wonder if VD et al are able to spice up the endgame in such ways in their content updates.

It would work with a single faction but with seven factions it's too much work. Seven factions -> seven groups of fighters and loremasters, ideally seven different parties with different pros and cons (for example, the IG wouldn't have any loremasters, so you'd have to get one yourself) -> x7 various descriptions and dialogues.

Anyway, we'll do it differently and see if it works.

Also, I dunno what you're talking about, the game has very clear difficulty levels.

Easy - Talkerfag with 0 combat stuff.
Medium - Brawn over brains full on axe 10 dodge 10.
Hard - Hybrid character.
Ultraviolence - Hybrid character without lore and/or crafting.

The first of the magnificent seven reviews earned in all honesty.

Oh, right... and what does the Thieves' Guild in Teron ask the player to do if he signs the document as a merchant
You get fucked. He uses your signature to forge an order to transport a large shipment of gold so he can steal it. If you don't have high enough charisma to talk your way out of it Linos will have you killed.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
So in terms of combat, I've played through the Imperial Guard and the Assassin story lines. Gotta say this engine/combat system would make for a great srpg with group combat. Just add some height modifiers, a few terrain modifiers, a few more types of bombs poisons (-ap stuff, smoke that reduce chance to hit of stuff inside smoke) maybe add cavalry units, some intresting encounters with some intractable background objects and you'd end up with one of the best turn based strategy games. It's good solid fun, the armor, armor damage, dodging, blocking, crits and different weapon types all work together really well.

I'm not suggesting anyone actually do this, just impressed is all.
:excellent:

The combat system really seems well done. I remember complaining a few years back that it's wasted on a single character game but it allows for some cool stuff even like this. I'm really looking forward to the dungeon crawler. Now I'm on my 4th playthrough as an assraping Preator since my hybrid combat loremaster totally failed.

How the hell do you make a combat loremaster? It seems to me that I need lots of intelligence and perception and lore and crafting for that and I just start sucking at combat.

A statline of 6/8/6/8/8/4 works decently, but you won't be able to do the hardest combats, especially in Teron.

10int is overkill. Jaedars is a good distrib, or 5strr 7con for those two key 7con checks and survivability.

Yeah I didn't feel like testing the required con.
Also I can't let go of muh bonus training from CHA :/

10 int is fine for people who don't actually know all the checks/training opportunities by heart as it gives them a bit of a leeway with SPs.

There are 2 con7 checks? Only one I can think of is
godhood
. Anyway, as a loremaster, you should be able to get +1 physical stat during the game.

Well, you should, because it only amounts to like... 20-30 skill points total? Putting those CHA points in int will give you a better mileage.

Con7 check at
Abyss to blow up Maadoran

Hanging on to CHA bonus training is silly. If you're going for a talker and investing in talking skills / solutions, OK, but otherwise, do you really think 3 attribute points are worth 20-30 SP?

Similarly, 10 INT is not the best idea even for new players unless they are going for a pure talker, because they will need every help they can get in the form of extra STR/DEX/CON/PER to get the edge in combat.

I've never done the math, it just seemed nice. Now that I think about it, sure it's not worth it. I'm trying to avoid analyzing this game though.

With DoT's/Bow? No problemo I'd say.
Maybe even pump DEX to 9, use machine and get 12 AP in total.

Also isn't highest Lore check in the game 10 INT 10 Lore? For various journals around ancient sites.
