Indeed, he's either talking about BT1 (technically Tales of the Unknown vol1: The Bard's Tale) or BT3 (Nuked version) for Skara Brae or more likely getting it confused with Tangramayne. Pffff...

Good spot.

$1.7M for McComb and $1.9M for MCA? Are we going to make those amounts?
Easily, Fargo is just playing safe, notice as he combined various items in one stretch goal when usually they could have made for some intermediate tier.

Don't see it making 1.9 though I'd love to be surprised. 1.7 is a possibility.

If things are close, PayPal might put it over the edge.

:(

As for why this one isn't doing as great as Wasteland 2 while Bard's Tale is a better known franchise, it is no mystery. The reason Wasteland 2 got funded succesful was definitely not Wasteland 1, but Fallout... which is a game way up ahead in terms of popularity to Bard's Tale. I'm only moderately excited about the game myself. I backed it because "Meh, why not."

Am I the only one who had never heard of "Shenmue" before the Kickstarter?

Chris’ involvement will be locked in the moment we pass the $1.9 million mark on the Kickstarter, where he’ll be designing the Cairn of Horrors, an all new dungeon built from the worst things that live in the imagination of Chris Avellone. The Cairn has one purpose, and that purpose is to kill you.

Cairn of Horrors eh? Sounds like a direct reference to the infamous classic AD&D module Tomb of Horrors. Sounds good to me - if that's the intention.

Does anyone know if the skill system from BT1-3 could be "exploited" like in Wizardry, such as creating an almost invincible Faerie Ninja?
Would be sad if not, because it also adds to replayability by trying solo-runs. Were solo runs possible in BT1-3?

Please no "perks" for BT4... Perks would completely destroy the game

Depends what you a solo run. You could fill your party up with binds and summons in 2 and 3 but only have 1 player created party member. I can't imagine it being possible in BT1.

There was no skill system like Wiz so it was just a case of picking a class with race determining max stats. It usually just involved a lot of re-rolling, especially if you got unlucky with health or spellpoints.

Damn, such two good updates and they drew in NO MONEY literally. What the fuck :negative:

New kickstarter lesson - good updates don't bring in any money when they happen after the hype is dead and everyone's forgotten about your campaign. :(

It also sounds similar to the Hall of Gorrors in Wizardry 7 - a collection of the hardest monsters the game has to offer. Beating them is completely optional, but I thought that was one of the best ideas in Wizardry 7.

It wouldn't be dead if people were excited to begin with. I don't think the Bard's Tale brand draws much interest.

I gave them the minimum cuz it's inXile and I want to keep them employed, but I'm not going higher than that. Just don't give much of a shit about first person RPGs.

It definitely feels like that. Thanks to their slow updates and vague responses. Now its dead. *poke poke*

I like how the thing raised $100,000 above its funding goal with 10 days to go still and it's treated like a failure

Yeap.

Witcher 3 is also keeping people busy.

Fair enough, but it's being compared to inXile's previous efforts not Kickstarters in general.

For anyone not reading the KS comments, I've been tracking the progress of bard's tale vs other big kickstarters, which also allows me to make pretty informed projections.
Current projection is $2.08 million, although this has been falling over time, which reflects this kickstarter is doing poorer now, compared to its initial burst, than previous kickstarters.

Previously, Torment had the worst final week compared to the earlier part of that kickstarter. If bards tale has the same sort of finish as Torment, it will get around $1.85 million. Any lower than that and you're saying this will have the worst finish of any of the big kickstarters so far.

Also, it's interesting that Fargo's kickstarters have slow finishes (relatively). He is probably better at drawing folks in early through smart media campaigns and special offers.
