The two "King's Field" on PSX are some of my favourite games ever even though they were sluggish as hell so I'm genuinely excited by the prospect of playing their spiritual successor on PC. From Software rules (at least their games on PSX, never bought a console after that), the way they build a weird atmosphere is second to none.

It feels like they were tapping directly into my dreams and it seems that I'm not the only one in this case. It makes me think of Lovecraft writings who also seem to paint faithfully oniric territories that are common to most human beings. That's the most majestic thing art can do.

I still can't believe a From Software game is coming to PC. Between this and the whole Kickstarter affair, it's like the end times are upon us.

I only know the PSX games from From Software but I remember writing a thread about them and asking people who had played their subsequent games on PS2 and PS3 if their atmosphere was still top-notch and the answer (mostly from Crooked Bee and Black Cat whose opinions I trust) was: DEFINITELY YES. From Software is one the greatest developer studio ever, and that's the short and long of it.

Just wait, I hear that EA is shopping around for another developer with a good reputation to ruin.

Isn't this one of those games where you die and then grind between half to a full hour just to get where you were, because that's... fun? Pass.

if you really really suck, yes you can grind to make the game somewhat easier if that's your thing. but you'd still suck and be derided for it :smug:

Never heard about the game, really, so I can't say anything about it, but if it is indeed a turd, it only goes to show that From Software never cared for PC at all. And the horribleness of the port only testifies to that as well. Let's hope things change now; it's too late to bring FS's classic titles to PC, of course, but maybe Dark Souls, if (hopefully) ported properly, can be the beginning of a new era for PC ARPGs.

Ninja Blade was an awful, terrible game to begin with, although i don't see how the port was a horrible turd. i tried it ~6 months ago and it ran more than fine on my subpar machine (core2duo 3.33, 4gb ram, ati4870) and the controls were ok (played fine on kb&m).

I LOVE King's Field games, and this is pure gold. Think King's Field, with almost perfect combat, same level of hiden passages, conecting to one another, same level of dangerous feeling etc : D.. Also world is also similiar

You should also play King's Field 4 the ancient city, it is superb, the atmosphere, the story, the setting, combat as in any KF not so much but it is there. At least watch an LP of it, it is worth it.

Dark Souls is one of those games where beyond reaching some stats breakpoints (For the most part that all relates to the requirements for equipment in DS, and except for spells, you should be able to equip your desired gear by fairly early on), grinding is useless except to reach one of those points.

As for the "new bosses", would love to see some FromSoft cameos (Guyra is actually a fairly reasonable prediction though Katia/Tara, God of Destruction and God of Harmony would be cool and Metal Wolf could be worth it for the sheer "what"ness.)

If you die you drop your unspent experience where you are (or where you were last on stable ground if your death was by falling). Enemies don't even respawn after dying so you can simply spend 2 mins running back to where you are to pick them up again. It's literally impossible to lose that much progress in the game unless you are criminally stupid (accumulate several levels of unspent experience + run past enemies you can't beat to die and have your souls in a spot you can't retrieve them from).

And yeah, grinding isn't a big thing in the game. Stats go up to 99, but all weapons and armor can be wielded with stats around the 20s-30s. Choose the right class and dump into the right stat and you can wield the most ridiculously cumbersome stuff after only a few hours of play.

So when do you people estimate this will arrive?
