The problems with dialog mentioned here has been happening since Demon Souls. Personally I don't think it would hurt them if they give us more exact dialog choices either, but I think this is really a developer thing.

Autistic devs => autistic dialog. I like it this way though:)

Calm the fuck down and simply explain what you like about it. I was only asking.

It also features really annoying music ;D

So I hadn't played DS in a while, like... 5 months or something. Decided to create a new char; made a Pyro. I remember the first time I played the game I got punked by the Asylum Demon like 3 times before I killed it. This time the controller disconnected on me twice during the fight and I still killed it in one try.

Real talk; the game is not difficult but it does have a very steep curve of you learning the game's internal logic at first; but once you do you're more or less fine. The rules don't really change, they're just seemingly difficult to grasp at first. But then, if you just hunker down in armor and spam a slash or two you'll do just fine for the most part.

I think my biggest complaint with the game is how there are so many routes that are tight-rope walks of death if you fuck up a bit. I am prone to do just that when using an xbox controller. Fucking analog sticks. The other complaint is that I never have enough Endurance; fuck me I want that fast roll at all times.

I have been working on my Fashion Souls. All these builds are really viable for PvP and still manage not to look awful. I hate the fact that when I PvP I see everyone dressed as clowns for the sake of min maxing. P.S.: Fuck the Hollow Soldier Waistcloth.

I have a shield in the other slot, just took out the whip for the screenshot because it looked better and more fitting with the character concept. Anyways, whips in the offhand are much, much better than in the main hand because they gain more tracking. That notched whip is actually situationally viable for finishing people off, sneaking in some extra bleed buildup, and punishing parry-happy people (as the whip cannot be parried). As long as you don't try to trade hits while whipping and you don't use it against someone who's constantly trying to backstab you it's going to be fine.

Also, an extra bit of information that some of you may already know: the set of Thorns is amazing for negating a lot of lagstabs, just one piece from it is enough. The lagstabs that it negates are those where you roll and still get sucked into the BS, what happens is that those pathetic points of damage the thorns do register at the same time the enemy is performing the backstab, causing it to do 0 damage.

So I got the PC version off the steam sale since I never played the expansion content. When it comes to DSFix are there some settings I should keep in mind? I noticed my framerate tends to suffer around (I believe) fog like effects. I have the resolution set to 1920x1080 w/ 32 bit colour, is this problematic. I came across some older threads saying that the higher resolutions don't work well, but I couldn't tell if this was pre-DSFix or not.

Also, to those who played the PS3 version and PC version, did you find the camera control more sensitive? I don't know if it's a result of a PS3 controller compared to a X-Box controller, or the software itself. I'm not much in the mood for tossing MotionJoy on the computer to find out.

Edit: Nevermind. It seemed to be somehow related to hooking up to a TV as a second display.

So, at level 120, in NG+, I finally became a Darkwraith for the first time.

Great fun. It's fantastic that you only hear an interesting take on the story (Gwyn's motivation and and possible endings) if you talk to Kaathe, which most players will not even find out if they don't read about it.

I have to say the Four Kings were not easy in NG+, I think the difference in boss difficulty is most visible in their case.

edit: on noticing things: with my first character I missed not just the staircase to the lift to Anor Londo. I missed even the fact that there was a staircase down to the Firekeeper cave and only found it a few dozen hours in.

Also, with my first character I explored completely by myself and I have to say finding e.g. the Darkroot Basin was fantastic. Discovering a Souls game for the first time is a unique experience.

Four Kings are actually a pretty cool bossfight, but very easy to outlevel/outgear. They're quite challenging and fun at SL1 as well.

And I actually missed that staircase as well. I only learned about it after finding the Fire Keeper Soul in the Parish, and looking for a fire keeper around the Firelink bonfire. Felt pretty silly afterwards. Then I went down to New Londo, fell into the water while swinging at a hollow, and jumped into the elevator pit while trying to recover my souls. Ah, the memories.

While I don't give a damn about PvP, I too had to adhere to Fashion Souls out of OCD tendencies. Final fashion look for armor was Artorias helmet + torso with arms and legs from Havel's. Zweihander/Logan's Wand in right hand, Iron Round Shield in left.

THere was so much hidden in the darkroot basin/forest/garden that I missed the first time through. Between secret walls and just not paying attention well enough I missed many things. That and the mage smith in New Londo I had no idea about until recently.

I hope to god that they severely cut down on the platforming in dark souls 2.

If a game like dark souls is going to have mandatory platforming sections, then it better be damn near perfect, on the contrary; controlling your character in platforming sections in dark souls is like controlling a drunk old guy with a black dildo stuck in his ass. Anor londo with that fucking church where you have to walk cautiously as fuck over some fucking paper thin support beams while fighting several guys that can knock you off while they attack, and where you will randomly knock yourself off when attacking unless you have a lucky streak, was a rage inducing example of extremely bad game design inbetweeen otherwise excellent game design. And I won't even mention the following section with the two archers.

These two sections are probably the reason why I will probably never replay that game, at least not beyond that point, despite it possibly being the best game in every other regard that I've ever tried. Interesting world and lore, fantastic art design, good music, shit tons of exploring and rewards for it, open world with no level scaling, outstanding loot whoring and possibilities for power gaming, and an excellent risk/reward system. Dark souls was pretty much the perfect game for me, and ticks so many buttons of for me, it's just a damn shame with the platforming.

I also hope that you get randomly knocked off edges. I think 80% of my deaths are of these type, and more often than not, they just feel cheap. Like "hahaha, i troll you, you die!".

I hope they add even more platforming sections so maggots like you rage out of the game.

There's plenty of cheap shit to be mad about, but falling in Anor Londo was seriously piss easy to not do.

Anor Londo was fine, but the platforming in Great Hollow was pretty terrible. Trying to roll between branches wasn't fun at all since character movement just wasn't designed for it. It really didn't help that if you didn't land perfectly you'd just slide off anyway.
Leave platforming for Mario, Dark Souls should be about exploring and killing or being killed.

I didn't spend hardly any time in the Great Hollow, but I love the platforming (with exception to Blighttown) elements I saw.

People who can't platform need to die. Platforming is fun and adds tension. It's not difficult if you do it right and apply an ounce of thought. Great Hollow especially was absurdly easy if your only goal was to get to the bottom rather than collect all the goodies.

I swear, just a few days ago I heard people complain about platforming in Demons Souls of all things. I can't even think of what you could call platforming in that game. Not into a bottomless pit?

I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time, about 20 hours or so in. I don't normally touch action rpgs, like many other codexers I imagine, but the game just plays gorgeously. Seriously impressed.

Actually, I think I fell in love with it from the opening video, which is pretty bizarre for me! The whole package just fits. From what little I've seen so far, the art direction, sound, setting & writing have all been spectacular and--something which is quite a feat in the fantasy genre--full of personality.

I've had a couple of irks... I picked up a giant axe which is over-sized to a stupid extent and I'm worried equipment is going become increasingly absurd at higher levers. Games for windows live has given me grief but I don't imagine the developers had much choice regarding the PC port in general. Multiplayer has been iffy and slightly spoiled by annoying invaders. At the same time, however, my character was unable to effectively wield that axe due to low strength and could only perform a single, off-balanced swing with it. Considering how ruthless combat can be, it was quite cool that the game also deemed the axe too ridiculous for use (although I fear that won't last long). Likewise, I'm also very impressed at the way the game has intergrated multiplayer (and a number of other mechanics) into the setting in a non-egregious way. It could be a lot worse!

I think this game is going to be a classic.
