Once again, Dark Souls has trolled me. This time, I was trying to get the Black Bow of Pharis, apparently the best bow in the game. I was fighting the guy who had it, when he fell of a cliff. Now it looks like I'll never be able to get it. Why would the devs have someone with a unique item spawn near a cliff?

huh I think if you save-quit out the item spawns on top, like with Lautrec's ring.

If you quit and reload he loot should be at the edge of the cliff; same goes for the guy down at the firelink shrine who kills the firekeeper.

Also it's arguably not that good a bow, since it's much slower than the shortbow, and at extreme ranges you can't hit anything except immobile targets anyways. I think the longbow does better damage too.

it's the best dex PvE bow. most consistently most damaging bow. for PvP where stamina consumption and RoF is important, short and composite are the best (and gough/dragonslayer for trolling :))

You'll basically be playing Dark Souls 1 offline ALL the time?

While I've never been big on Multiplayer, I must admit it grew on me in Dark Souls.

It would not :( be the same without it...

I think the idea at the time was moving it to steamworks.

There are rumors to that effect, but no confirmation.

I'm worried that Namco Bandai will just go:
"We already published Dark Souls 2, and the original is already 3-4 years old so why bother."

"There isn't enough money in it to justify the hassle."

If anything, porting to Steamworks would make money. Dark Souls 2 fans would check it out as would Steam devotees.

It seems like it would be exactly the kind of thing Namco/From wouldn't do honestly. Live is seemingly highly integrated into the systems of a bad PC port with a team that has been broken up for years. I assume Namco and From would have to negotiate a new deal to pay for more work on an old game, etc. They'd have already announced something if they were gonna bother. The question I have is whether the "GFWL is shutting down" thing will actually break the game or if it will only go into an "officially unsupported" kinda state. If it's so "shut down" that you can't even start the game anymore they might do something cheap one guy that cares can make in a day to officially crack it I guess.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Sales would still be stiffled with the crappy port quality. I'd assume most people who see a "Dark Souls, now with steamworks!" might not get to know DSFix even exists, let alone how to tweak it appropriately.

I'm trying so hard to like this game but it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle at the moment - with work and small kids I'm lucky to have an hour to game each night and then to fill it going through the same areas over and over beating up the same guys until I die and often progressing nowhere is just frustration. I know it goes against the grain but it would be great if there was a no respawn mod out there because last night I got so fed up I quit and then played TH4EF for an hour (and even got some enjoyment because I actually managed to progress...)

You can try DS2, the enemies stop respawning after you kill them 12 times. And then after a few years you can go back to DS1 again...

Huh, stop fighting trash mobs. I kill the enemies only once when first clearing/looting/setting up shortcuts; after that I just run past 'em. I always play fast/low armor guys tho so maybe that's different. Otherwise, make a lightning xbow and just kill 'em from a distance. If you're not at the point where you can, try a different build?

Playing a tank is easy but not terribly fun. Get a high stability shield, let the enemy hit you and recoil -- then blast them with a wide swinging weapon like a Claymore.

That's happened to me on boss fights. If you kill a boss and he kills you, both in one hit, in my experience you lose all item drops that the boss gives. Really sucks as there's no way to go back for it. Maybe it doesn't work that way on all of them, but it did it for me on one.

Anyone wanna help me out with the Anor Londo section?

My gfwl tag is LucklessHalo444 (they seem to have some ridiculous gamer-tag generator, and I can't seem to be able to change it into anything else).

The worst part about the connection shit is that it locks out good connections while it tries to make bad ones work. If I would hang out in a "PvP friendly zone" with a cat covenant ring on I'd spend half the time in that "pre-invasion state" where bonfires go out, fog walls go up, you can't use invasion items, the cat covenant ring summon doesn't work, etc. just for the connection to fail and no invasion would happen. Then the same guy spams his invasion item again, it pings me, pre-invasion again, etc. So bad connections end up crowding out good ones.

With my last bit of humanity I use a soapstone in the hopes of getting summoned by someone, so as to finally finish O&S, and some dickhead motherfucker with some a-grade bitching gear invades me, so long for my chances of getting help. Is there any way that I can farm humanity in Anor Londo?

nope. only rats in the Depths. btw, go buy some Rings of Sacrifice from Oswald at the Belfry. you keep your humanity if you die with the ring on (but the ring breaks). you can also consider to try to open up all the shortcuts in the Painted World since it's the best place to farm for souls

Just try to get summoned. If you manage to help a bro finish O&S, you will regain your humanity. (This is exactly what happened to me on my 1st playthrough -- I got invaded, lost my last humanity, got summoned, helped beat O&S, and then summoned another bro. The location is ripe with invaders so we had to fight our way through to O&S which was doubly satisfying.)

edit: WAIT. I didn't get your post. You can always get summoned, even if you're hollowed. You need to be human in order to summon and / or get invaded.

I can't, I don't have the ring required to enter the painted world.
