I did it the way it was meant to be done, by hiding behind the big rock and coming out only to pock him after an attack. Long, tedious and boring fight. Good initial WTF moment but pointless boss overall.

If I recall correctly, you can provoke him into slamming his arm/tentacle, which you can dodge-roll, then you run up and attack, run back and provoke again, rinse and repeat.

Yeah thats how I did it my first time. Well, the first time I won anyways. Not a terribly complicated fight, but constantly being on the cusp of instant death keeps it tense at least, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other fights.

Yeah once he gets into the overhead slam loop, he's just too easy. A lot of people probably encounter him right after Quelaag and any attack just 1-shots you.

Edit: seems like the Steam build is out of beta now. I just noticed that darksouls.exe file is digitally signed by n-Space. I guess Bumco got them to do the Steam integration?

Yeah, Super Ornstein is pretty badass. Rolling to dodge his impalement move is generally a bad a idea: just disengage and run like hell. And when he jumps, back off. Dude's weak to fire though, so see if you can do something with that. And of course Sunbro is always a good help.

Are you talking about the attack where he charges up his spear with lightning and impales you on the spear? I think I just rolled between his legs when he did that to dodge it.

You are doing the right thing, only thing I would recommend to be spoiled is how to access the DLC. That shit was overly cryptic.

Does it happen while offline as well? I'd try and see if you're getting lag playing offline or not.

Dark Souls isn't that hard, and you can actually complete it by banging your head into a wall enough times. Watch playthroughs by MaximusBlack or Jeff Green for proof.

EDIT: And buy a fucking gamepad. A $20 Logitech one is perfectly sufficient.

I think it's mainly due to this being my first action game of this type really. I have a personal dislike for the genre, but Dark Souls just appeals to me on too many levels to ignore it. But me playing this type of game is really like handing the controls to Halo to my mother. It may not be an insanely difficult game but when the bitch can't even click to fire, it's gonna be an uphill battle.

Thanks for the Spear-tip. I don't want to abuse magic, I want to beat the game straight up. Currently I restarted with a Bandit and I'm using a shield this time around, which has made things a bit more managable.
