I guess I shouldn't be surprised a Dark Souls game asks the player to take a literal leap of faith just after finishing a dungeon filled with hazardous platforming/balancing acts.

My first time through the game I found neither the bonfire at the top nor the shortcut. Took a while to get through, especially since I'm an explorefag and had to try jumping to all the places and killing all the giants and shit.

Yeah, it's one of the easiest fights in the game.
Wait until you get to Ornstein & Smough, you fucking peasant, just wait for it.

Pfff. Dark Souls is going to have to do better than that to stop me. Got it on either my 9th or 10th try. I got Orenstein down on most of my attempts (oddly enough the two times I didn't I just got destroyed. When their attacks are in sync it's hard to get either of them). Smough was a son of a bitch. You just got to be patient with him though.

Abandoned the Zwei greatsword in favour of the Silver Straight Sword. Also had to ditch Havel's armor (which I had just found) to put back on the Elite Knight set. I needed the extra mobility.

That was a fun fight though. All of Anor Londo was awesome.

I did it on a first try, it's about running backwards and looking at Ornstein. Also not falling for his feints too often, he's continuing with strong thrust and I guess there are also invincibility frames.

Ornstein and Smough are little bitches, Four Kings is where it's at.

I found Four Kings significantly easier than Ornstein and Smough (and less fun :M).

Ok well I finished. The post-Anor Londo content just wasn't up to par with the rest of the game. Especially Lost Izalith and Bed of Chaos. I did think Tomb of the Giants was great though. Still thought it was an amazing game though. I've played very few games that have been as fun as Dark Souls. I'm probably going to do another playthrough. Not sure if I'll go a NG+ or not. I want to get two of those Painted World of Ariamis swords and just do a bunch of spins. Not sure if it will work out but it should be entertaining. I'm glad they just released the enhanced DS2 and that there is a steam sale coming up soon. I'm excited for some more.

The 4 kings I did on the first try, just pummeled them fuckers while not giving any fucks.
Bed of Chaos was really annoying especially because of the respawning Demon on the way there.
I think actually the most difficult bosses were the wolf and the prison demon where you drop down the floor to kill him because his farts were so hard to predict.

I found the Stone armor early in the game and while I was going to try for a mobile agile fast build because my heavy knight in DS2 had been kinda boring, I gave up and just took all the hits because while avoiding a single guy was fun, fighting a group of assholes with 15 FPS was impossible.
I also got the Black Knight Sword from the first Black Knight in the Burg which I used for lung attacks whenever facing a strong enemy. I just gave up and got changed into a tanky slow build which made the game easier. The next weapon for me was the Dragon Tooth and Havel's armor but I think it was totally the same as the Stone Armor. I just love having a big thick chunk of metal in these games because it feels so strong I can't justify dancing around with a toothpick.

The Giant's Tomb was annoying as shit, same as the Blighttown, I hate these dark areas, I much preferred the bright, sun-lit areas from DS2, but they were too linear at the same time.

I liked summoning the NPCs for the tough fights, I had no interest in challenging myself, the game was difficult enough for me as it was.

The game really goes downhill post-Anor Londo. The library is interesting but the final stretch is dildos, New Londo is pretty short, the dark parts of Tomb of the Giants is just lazy design and Lost Izalith is where they ran out of time and money, and it really shows with the half-finished environments and lazy enemies (especially the dragon asses in the lowest part).

I didn't mind the post-Anor Londo stuff so much. It's not up to par with the rest of the game, but I still found it to be worthwhile content. I did find New Londo disappointing though, because the game had been building up the darkwraiths like they were these horrifying deadly monstrosities, but when you fight them they're basically just
guys with swords.

The DS endgame (well, maybe aside from Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith, which are genuinely bad) is somewhat underrated, I think, because it doesn't have the "interconnected world" to prop it up. Areas like Darkroot Garden/Basin/Valley of Drakes are worse than New Londo, Tomb of the Giants and Duke's Archives; Depths aren't that amazing either; only Undead Burg/Parish and Blighttown really impress there. However, since the areas are so cleverly interconnected, they appear to be much better designed than they really are. Several areas in DaS2 are underrated for the same reason.

Furthermore, the early and mid parts of Dark Souls have a fun feeling of open-ended exploration and adventure - you go in a direction without knowing what awaits you. On the other hand, the post-Anor Londo endgame feels more like a checklist of things to do - most of the mystery is gone at that point. I kind of think Dark Souls 2 had a decent idea with its mostly linear endgame, and the stretch from entering Drangleic Castle to meeting Vendrick is quite well done, but then they proceed to drop the ball on it completely.

Just got back to playing DaS II after months. I don't know where the hell I am or where I'm supposed to go next, so I am investigating this Brightstone Cove Tseldora. I'm at level 104, which probably means I'm halfway, I guess. At least my equipment is not bad.

Now that I think about it, I can mentally work my way through Dark Soul's map and Bloodborne's, but Dark Souls 2's is a fucking mess.

Yeah, pretty much. There are just way too many places that look alike, and too much sub-areas. I don't even know why they put two different rat bosses in two entirely different areas. The worst part is that I'm able to one shot most enemies, so my progress is just hindered by the fact that I really don't know where the fuck am I supposed to go.

I would say Crown of the Old Iron King is the pinnacle of the series. It has the best boss fights of the entire series (Fume Knight and Sir Alonne), and fantastic vertical level design.

The other DLC = Dark Souls quality. DaS 2 oc is pretty meh. Although the Pursuer is fun to fight.

When you're done, play Bloodborne. It's the best FromSoft game.
