Finally got around to playing the DLC. The DLC areas were decent but the boss fights were fantastic. I feel lucky that my character had a ton of endurance or I think I would still be fighting Manus.

Its my 2nd playthrough, i didn't know. Now im switching weapons, but its not the same. O&S on the first try was the thing that made me realize i was playing easy mode. The moveset is awesome tho.

I just bought Dark Souls on Steam for five bucks. I don't know anything about those games. The only gamepad I have is some noname playstationesque. Should I try to make it work or just go in with mouse+keyboard? How bad can m+k controls be?

I've played both with KB+M.: it's not so bad.

There are actions which are harder to perform versus using a pad. However you can fix this shit if you recalibrate your keys and you use the DSfix patch for the mouse.

By the way: Dark Souls 1 looks absolutely gorgeous on PC. I think this is the best way to experience the game but I will admit that using a pad is even better.

It's definitely hard mode compared to playing with a controller, but you can manage if you git gud.

Nothing wrong with an offbrand pad. Only real reason I got a 360 pad myself is that I play games on a friend's 360 sometimes, and whenever he plays his own games he likes to blame all his failures on 'someone wrecked my gamepad'.

For DS: PTDE I set up the controls to mimic DS2 controls. One can achieve this with Autohotkey scripting. DSfix is okay but after DS2 Kb+m I never want to go back to DS: PTDE control schema even with DSfix. DS2 w/Kb+m became fluid-mode once controls were memorized. Switching weapons/spells/drinking pots/throwing daggers w/o having to search for keys while dodging or navigating tight quarters is a big plus for me. Going back to PTDE with almost identical Kb+m set-up made for much more enjoyable experience.
My only issue now is trying to decide what build I want for NG+.

I use Keyboard only and I drastically remapped keys.

keyboard controls can control camera - clunky but do-able

ofc you can just use your voice to control the game - only faggots use controllers - real men beat the game with voice commands

I have a cheap PS3 knockoff (well actually it's an xbox layout pad meant to be used on a PS3) and I used a program called x360ce to make it work on DS/DS2

I have given a shot to m+kb and I think that shit is for the birds friend but other people have done it

Looks like my gamepad works mostly fine, only the stick to rotate the camera is inverted. Totally tolerable.

I tried DS1 with KB + mouse first time around and dropped it pretty quickly, the controls were horrible, couldn't beat the second boss after 50 soemthing attempts. Just dropped the game.

Went back to playing it with a controller years later and now it's my favorite game.

Impressive, yes. If you consider beating Ornstein before taking down Smough as being impressive.

Someone needs to git fucking gud. :rpgcodex:
